Now listen. I really like knocking up Soundwave. I think he is the most exquisite MILF in all of creation. So I've been thinking some about how that sorta stuff would work, and how exactly cassettes and carriers would function, right?
Disclaimer that this is intended to work in any scenario where two or more mechs are capable of procreating through some form of interfacing (merging or sticky), whether the outcome is a fully-formed "baby" or just a spark that must separately have a body constructed.
So, if cassettes are carrier mechs' spawn, how are carrier mechs formed?
I've seen one explanation be that carrier mechs periodically spontaneously generate new sparks, and that an "unfertilized" spark - as in, one produced 100% asexually - becomes a cassette, whereas a fertilized one becomes a carrier. I do like this idea. Make it so that my babygirl just cannot help but be pregnant. Sexy, ideal, hell yeah. I may try writing something to this effect sometime.
But!!!! I also like the idea that they're, like, kinda clownfishy. Some means of environmental stressor may prompt a cassette to become a carrier, and there may be some additional factor which determines which cassette of the bunch it is. Perhaps the strongest, the most mature, the most intelligent, et cetera.
So, to my mind, if a cassette carrier enters an environment where the conditions are right, one or more of their cassettes may grow to be a carrier. For example:
If they find that they are in a position with a surplus of resources sufficient to support another group of symbiotes
If they lack the resources or strength to provide for the amount of symbiotes they presently have (in which case, a carrier may actually end up carrying one of their siblings as a symbiote, lessening the burden of their own carrier)
If they get pregnant while their symbiotic capacity is already full (read: too many babies in that damn deck)
So I guess that makes cassettes kind of like, permanent adolescents. Like axolotls. They CAN morph given the right circumstances! (Don't, uh, don't cultivate the "right" circumstances for an axolotl, though. No bueno.) But it's also fully possible to just live an entire life without reaching full "maturity". (Mental age, though, different story. I know Ravage is an old-ass creature.)
Speaking of the cassettes, have you ever drawn Rumble and Frenzy? How do they operate in this AU? Like, tiny adults or also kids?
I had drawn Rumble! They're tiny adults now, but me and a friend I share this au with have joked that they're Megatron's kids. Buzzsaw is the odd one out for being yellow. Starscream can't tell Soundwave had given birth to more cassettes and thinks Resonance (Nancy) and Jammer (Jambotron 9000) were just ones he hadn't seen before. There's so many of them. It's possible he just missed them aboard the Nemesis.
Which of the cassettes are Jammer and Resonance closest to?
Jammer is closer to Rumble and Frenzy and they get up to mischief all the time. They're a terrible influence! Nobody is stopping them!
Jammer is also nearsighted like Jazz and that's what the visor is for ^^
Resonance is closer to Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, and Ravage. They share their spy stories with her and she's all about mysteries and cool spy stuff! Like Batman!
