You ever been in a state where you physically have no energy, but you're bored and socially understimulated so you kind of wish you could just invite people to come over like this:

So you can do this: I regularly burrito myself on the couch next to where my husband and friends are playing D&D and kibbutz, and have been to games with other people doing the same.

You can also call your friends and say "what up I would love to see you but have no fucking spoons do you want to come over and yap while I lay on the couch like a Gothic heroine wasting away from consumption?" And if your friends are cool (since they're friends with you, they probably are) they will either come over or say "damn I don't have any spoons either, but we should do that sometime." And you will have made self-care a little easier for them too, which is very cool of you.

Can confirm. Learning to ask yourself "what things WOULD let me participate/enjoy the thing? what if I just did those?" can be life changing.

I'll never forget the time my best friend was like, I'm making it nice out in the backyard so you can hang out. Wait here.

And then they took outside an entire thickass camping mattress pad, blanket, pitcher of water, sun hat, sunglasses, the book I was reading, pillows. All I had to do was walk (shuffle, very slowly) to the backyard.

And they just...plopped me down out there and puttered around the garden. I read for a few minutes and dozed and we talked some and that was some of the most loved I had ever felt.

Now I think about life in terms of how to accommodate myself all the fucking time. The people who love you should be stoked to figure out ways to spend time together that work for everyone and you should be stoked to do the same for your beloveds

Adding to the folks who have absolutely done this.

I once was having a super shitty low-spoons week and one of my good friends invited me over for what he described as the most low-key chill hangout ever. He was gonna order delivery of my choice of food and we'd sit on the couch with a movie. I was feeling so shitty and was like you know what I am not putting on real pants and I showed up in a pair of matchy flannel jammies. He opened the door in his own pair of matchy flannel jammies. It was great.

Another time, another flare-up, we'd been trying to get folks' schedules to work for finishing up a multi-session but short tabletop RPG campaign. My friends came over to my place (another usually hosted) and pulled up chairs so I could play from my beanbag chair while laying down (it was a couch-sized beanbag chair).

Artist Unknown, Wyvern Weathervane, c. late 1800′s

According to this 2017 MWPAI Bulletin, this dragon weathervane is found in the Proctor collection of the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute. It dates from around 1895, when it graced the rooftop of the carriage house, and is made of copper, zinc, and iron. It was removed from the roof for its protection in 1998.

Wyvern is the nickname given to it by the museum, but it would have almost unquestionably been referred to as a dragon, the artificial wyvern/dragon distinction being a modern invention. The Bulletin above has it simply as Weathervane.

The museum’s 1998 Christmas ornament was based on this weathervane, and was apparently still in the museum store in 2017, which sounds amazing and I want to see it.

a good way to inspire yourself to do more is to see yourself as the wacky sitcom B plot character in your friends lives, "wouldnt it be funny to tell the friends in my phone about it." has gotten me to do anything from going to a festival (excelent) to wild camping (it went badly) (coastguard called) to trying to get the train to stonehenge (stonehenge costs money so i ended up just getting lunch in sailsbury, it was okay.) i bought a bicycle today and 20% of my reasoning was "itd be funny to surprise my roommate by coming home with a whole bike." . life is for living. and baby i live for the bit.
