The eco fash and eugenicist leftists (yes, whether you admit it or not, you exist) aren't going to like this but I rank the invention of plastic as one of the top 5 best inventions to ever happen to medicine, along with soap, insulin, vaccines, and rehydration salt fluids
Single-use syringes alone have saved more lives than you can imagine.
It's hard enough properly sterilising glass syringes in a professional medical setting. Imagine how much worse the blood-borne disease situation would be if everyone, everywhere had to sterilise needles instead of using disposables.
Everyone who does their own hormone or insulin shots would need to clean their own needles. Everyone practicing medicine in remote locations without clean water would be putting patients at risk. There would be no clean needle exchanges for people using injection drugs.
You think we have problems with hepatitis and HIV now? It could have been so much worse.
Let's all thank Colin Murdoch for saving many millions of lives.
happy birthday alfredo! You are! One (1)!
(she, like most snakes, was not a fan of keeping the party hat on her head)
also i know most snakes are opportunistic drinkers and that my baby is a little head empty (she'll strike for the thawed mice i present her but then spend 5 minutes looking for the mouse that she just struck at)
Putting those two facts together today I realized that since the height of her water bowl is an inch or two above the height of her substrate, I don't think she realizes she has a consistent source of water.
If I scoop her up and allow her to dunk her teeny baby head into the water tho, she IMMEDIATELY starts doing her best caprisun impression and takes a bunch of proper sips
I have consulted snake reddit and apparently some snakes just... seem to prefer to literally be led to water to drink?
In the meantime I'm gonna go look for a shallower dish, maybe it's the height that perplexes her
I need my weird alone time or I will explode
I mean yes, but I've watched a lot more shitty horror movies about terrible things drifting in from dark space than about terrible things coming back from the sun. Maybe I don't want to risk them coming back.

my little cousin confidently declared that mother nature had a counterpart named daddy electric and i feel like this concept needs to be explored
Daddy Electric and Mother Nature sounds like a cute 70s act
idk anything about this but I love it
Iām paying to force seven thousand strangers to see a photo of my late husband having fun with his dog. Tumblr Blaze is totally worth it. XD
Thank-you to all of my new Internet stranger friends for being so gracious about having my post shoved onto your dashboards. I loved reading all of your kind tags and comments! Both Martin and Bosco have been gone for several years now but for 24 hours, they felt very present in my life. I greatly appreciate this gift. ā¤ļø
Reblog to have your dashboard be visited by the spirit of joy that death can end but not erase.
Thank you to everyone who commented in their tags or messaged me. Indeed, today is āMartin and Bosco Dayā. I originally whimsically blazed this photo on 13 July 2022. I never expected Martin and Bosco to travel so far and make so many new friends. The experience has been such a gift for me.
Happy Martin and Bosco Day 2026!
Now next time you see a spirit bear and go "but it's just kind of light brown..."
Imagine what that thing would look like if we could give it a bath.
i like how all cats regardless of species can either look rlly badass and cool or just incredibly silly stupid

Came across this art installation, Liza Lou's Kitchen, at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC. It's a kitchen made of tiny glass beads, that artist Liza Lou did, taking 5 yrs. to complete, from 1991 - 1996.
My favorite part is the sink.
i really im absolutely astounded at the phenomenal job that MIB did not to be racist against aliens, despite being a movie about secret agents chasing evil aliens. that scene where jay helps an alien mother to give birth is probably one of the most humanizing moments for an Other ive seen in a movie ever.
like it grabs the body snatcher trope from the cold war "aliens are all around you, hidden in diguzise, they could be any one of us!" and then it says "and theyre just people, theyre literally just people trying to live their lives and thats fine"
you literally have a whooe scene where a cop stands out because he says "i dont care how menacibg or threatning someone looks im not going to shoot them if there is a reasonable explination for what theyre doing, one is sneezing and one is just doing excercise", and that is the guy that gets aproved to join MIB.
The movie has a real love for NYC and immigrant culture as a part of that. The opening scene where K welcomes the undocumented immigrants to the United States. One alien greets another and says he's ordered him pierogi. A lot of them are refugees from their home worlds who just want to survive.

i saw a tumblr post a while ago that implied that the purpose of book reviews is to help the author get better at their craft by evaluating the book and pointing out its strengths and weaknesses, and i disagree with that so strongly. a book review is not for the author of the book youāre writing about. itās for potential readers, and readers who want to see someone elseās thoughts on the book. and on a more personal level, itās for you, the reviewer, to bring your own analysis and your unique perspective to the review. a book review is about the book youāre reviewing, obviously, but itās also about you, and what that book meant to you, and why it affected you the way it did. a book review can and should discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the book, but not for the purpose of instructing the writer how to improve their craft. thatās not your job.Ā the author of the book may read your review, but if you have the idea that youāre writing for them, that youāre their editor or pr manager, then you misunderstand the purpose of a book review, and your review will suffer for it.Ā
Y'all are thinking of ao3 comments. Book reviews aren't ao3 comments.
The analog equivalent of ao3 comments you're looking for is fanmail. Now you're probably thinking nobody reads their fanmail, but authors aren't usually a-list celebrities, and a lot of them do. They post their emails on their websites so you can find it and email them. That's where you should go to tell authors what you loved about their books, what you think could be improved on, and what you're hoping to see in the future.
I used to write to my favorite authors when I was a teenager, and almost all of them wrote back. Seriously, just send them an email.
Reviews are where you go to recruit new fans so you can all be feral on the internet about your favorite book together. This is the "join my new hyperfixation" pitch. You want to provide insights that will attract the sort of people you know will love this book, or maybe warn people about aspects they might not be into.
Unless you hate the book and don't want anyone to read it ever. You can also use a review for that I guess.
Well, kids⦠you wanna have one of those? I donāt want that kid,Ā but a..Ā breed of child, Dr. Grant, could be intriguing.

This is such a "common sense" way of putting it. Everybody memorize this for spitting it back out whenever needed.
Never thought I'd have the opportunity to say this again: Reducing women and girls to their vaginas and then forcing them to show those vaginas to strangers is not a feminist ideal.
