CEASE THIS IMMEDIATELY
site that you can type in the definition of a word and get the word
site for when you can only remember part of a word/its definitionÂ
site that gives you words that rhyme with a word
site that gives you synonyms and antonyms
THAT FIRST SITE IS EVERY WRITERâS DREAM DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TIMES IâVE TRIED WRITING SOMETHING AND THOUGHT GOD DAMNÂ IS THERE A SPECIFIC WORD FOR WHAT IâM USING TWO SENTENCES TO DESCRIBE AND JUST GETTING A BUNCH OF SHIT GOOGLE RESULTS
This oneâs an always-reblog, because who knows who needs it and hasnât seen it yet?
@wheezecheese figured youâd need this :3
thank u :3
"The horrors persist but so do libraries, books, iced coffee, sunsets, trees, the word 'fuck', the moon and the sea."
do u think omegaverse acknowledges covid-19 and the generation of people who permanently lost their sense of smell like how are they all scenting each other now is the omegaverse economy in shambles
actually pheromone sensing works differently from normal olfaction, since humans in our world donât have a functioning vomeronasal organ (VNO), we donât have any data on how covid-19 would affect a functioning VNO in omegaverse AUs
Actually there is evidence that covid probably would affect the VNO and it stands to reason would accordingly impair its function. Briefly:
SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes covid, can only infect cells expressing a certain protein called ACE2
ACE2 is expressed widely in nasal cavity epithelial cells but not in olfactory sensory neurons.Â
Seo et al. (2021) studied potential nasal targets for SARS-CoV-2 using golden hamsters as a model organism (commonly used as a proxy for humans in virology studies)
They found ACE2 expression in the main olfactory bulb epithelium (MOE, your ânormalâ nose organ)Â as well as the vomeronasal organ (VNO)
Several cell types in the VNO were able to be infected and they also found significant inflammatory activity (macrophage activation, apoptotic cells, etc)Â
The specifics of how covid actually causes dysosmia are not known for sure but epithelial damage by local inflammatory immune responses likely plays a role, especially because sensory neurons themselves are not affected (Bilinska, & Butowt, 2020). Therefore I would suggest a potential similar effect of VNO dysfunction as we see in the main olfactory bulb
From Seo et al.: âConsidering the function of the VNO, infection and subsequent pathologic changes may affect the behavior of Syrian hamstersâ
If it stands to reason that omegaverse individuals have functioning VNOs similar to members of the animal kingdom, then it is more than reasonable to conclude that covid may cause them to lose not only their main olfactory function, but also their VNO function as well

In conclusion the omegaverse economy IS in shambles.
OP this is very well-written but im still hung up on how you came onstage dressed as a clown only to tear off the costume and reveal yourself as a biologist

just identified a behavioral pattern within myself
The opposite of âthe elephant in the roomâ is âthe centipede in the roomâ: something thatâs not actually an issue but everyone is freaking out about
being a horror fan will have you saying sentences such as âi liked it a lot, super gross and sadâ
Also true crime
no thats a different and worse thing i am not associated with you
i mean this in the nicest way possible but some of you need to learn how to be annoyed
people are going to annoy you and thatâs not a reason to burn bridges or blow up relationships
some people will even annoy you often! some people arenât good at social cues and will therefore be frequently annoying! still not a reason to blow everything up!

We would fully accept any Japanese buckaroo
Foreigners will never understand how someone like Rawhide Kobayashi would immediately become a beloved local fixture in whatever small American town he ended up in.
every single time someone pulls the "How would you AMERICANS like it if someone came to AMERICA and" reversal, the answer is always "we'd fucking love it"

Your tags summed up the exact feeling I had about this
I just Googled the Swedish-Japanese guy in the OP, and according to this interview, his Japanese name was given to him by the master gardener he was apprenticed under:
âThe family name âMurasameâ was given to me by my master. The given name âTatsumasaâ is a combination of âdragonâ (tatsu), the [zodiac] year when I was born, and one character from my masterâs name,â says Murasame."
So I think maybe it's less like naming yourself 'Brandon McFreedom' and more like moving to the states to work under a veteran car mechanic named Bud McLean, and then having him turn to you after a few years on the job, and say "Son, it's time for you to become an American so you can open up your shop. And when that day comes, I think the world should know you by a new name: McLeo GM Corvette."
Named by his superior by conventions one would apply to a super chill stray cat

People will be like âoh I love gay podcast charactersâ but wonât even listen to the ROOTS (welcome to nightvale)
nothing like hearing this on the very first episode of the show and knowing shit was about to go down
thereâs something about reading the tags on this post that really gets to me because so many people are talking about how this podcast was their first exposure to a gay character that wasnât played off as a joke and instead how powerful it was to see Cecil completely unshakable in his immediate love for Carlos. some people even talked about how they used to listen to this with their parents and how their parents actually became more understanding for their own coming out because of it. I know itâs a podcast that most of us listened to when we were 13 and havenât caught up to in years and but itâs really refreshing to see how much that representation meant to people then and still now :)
it was also one of the first times iâd seen a jewish character whose jewishness was only used as a joke in explicitly jewish contexts. like not that âhey i donât worship christmas treesâ or âhaha circumcisionâ or something.
the joke is never âhaha cecilâs jewishâ the jokes were an ancient chant being similar to one he learned in torah school and his mom covering up all the mirrors even though, as far as we know, no one had actually died yet.
heâs explicitly gay and jewish and neither of those things are ever mocked.
Oh hey, I have something to add to this. So when I was in college I majored in a cross of sociology and media studies, which effectly lead me to studying fandom, identity, and how what we love defines us. I started in 2011 so you can imagine when Night Vale was getting big I was smack in the middle of the everything, and as a fan I was approaching it through the lens of my thesis and studies.
I ended up doing an entire final on this and including it within my work, but the long story short on this one is that Night Vale does particularly, specifically well because Cecilâs queerness is the most mundane part of the show. In the first 2-3 episodes, we are introduced to: - A floating sentient glow cloud - 5 headed multicolored dragon running for mayor - The weather report is music for no apparent reason - A portal that hocks dinosaurs into the school gym, a âminor inconvenienceâ - That our MC is gay Now out of those five, Cecil being gay is the only thing that exists in the real world, and therefore automatically becomes the most relatable. Effectively, the usage of the fantastical as mundane makes our fantastical, to the story, mundane. The key aspect of Night Vale is that sensationalizing the queers would actively make the story worse. And it set such a good fucking precedent for queer people in fantasy, horror, just about anything- the queerness becomes the relatable aspect, and it was Night Vale. So yâknow. Yeah, go back and give it a listen, now that itâs coming up on 10 years old. And think about how far weâve come.
