ya’ll were really gonna let me live my life in ignorance thinking mr. rogers was straight???
oh whoops, did we forget to tell you? there’s a quote in The Good Neighbor where Mr. Rogers talked about being attracted to both men and women
FRED ROGERS I LOVE YOU EVEN MORE
WOOOO
tumblr rediscovering this post in 2025:
i love characters who do the “i worship the myth i make of you” and in turn dehumanize and get wrong the object of their devotion and love. yes project a thing that does not exist onto a pedestal and kneel at it like it is your altar. this will surely not blow up in both of your faces eventually
now what is so compelling to me is how much of the “hiding your true face from my gaze” was your own obstruction of your vision for the solace and raison d’être the myth provided you with. the element of more so choosing not to look rather than it just being hidden from you until your eyes are forcefully yanked its direction is so tasty
and jaime does this with so many things. you can also “worship the myth i make of you but im off my knees now” the abstraction of knighthood. until you give it another go and try to redefine it for yourself and thrive to turn that myth into more than a myth. so you can get back on your knees. and eat brienne out.
is such a raw line you would think shakespeare wrote it but no

cause of death: sensitivity
men invented maps they had to spread on tables so they could watch each other bend over hands flat arms outstretched
if you told vin diesel fast and the furious you were gay he'd be like "Some people like driving stick…some people like driving automatic…what matters is you cross the finish line.." and then he'd rev up a dodge challenger and drive through a building and kill 16 people
he literally did in the fourth one when he's asked if he likes cars more than women
If you asked if he was cool with trans people, he'd probably say "sometimes, aftermarket parts are the only way to get the vehicle you really want. Everyone should have the right to hot rod."
SINISTER scott derrickson, 2012
betraying someone who trusts them deeply is one of the sexiest things a character can do its unparalleled. cause either the relationship is irrevocably changed and said character is completely at fault (guilt complex, hot) or it isnt and then both sides have to deal with the fact that they care about each other enough to overlook the betrayal (unceasing devotion, also hot)

every time spike watches buffy eat or feeds her himself in a fic I'm just like yeah.... ur so right he WOULD love that shit..... feeding and fucking and fighting are the core vampire principles and if he can't fuck or fight her for some reason then feeding will absolutely work
The thing about 911 is that the shipping drama and discourse surrounding it completely belies how insane this show truly is. A man is attacked by a shark on the freeway. Ghosts are probably real, and so are curses. The most recent season opens with a bee-nado that segues into a plotline about an autistic half-orphan child landing a broken plan. The most dramatic moment between the fandom's favorite ship is one of the characters getting shot by a sniper in broad daylight in the suburban streets of Los Angeles. Buck's introductory scene of the entire show is him stealing a firetruck to have sex with a Tinder hookup. The fire captain's backstory is an addiction that led to the death of 148 people. He's best friends with his wife's ex-husband and once proposed to said ex-husband's boyfriend on his behalf while that boyfriend was performing brain surgery on a man in the middle of a burning building. There's a guy who sneezes every time he lies and then lies so hard he almost dies. One of the main characters gets rebar impaled through his skull and is back to work the next month with no lasting side-effects. They basically never fight fires.
i really like the idea of Dean fully aware he is not being normal with Cas, that he isn't "just" his best buddy or brother in arms, he doesn't even care cas's in a male vessel, not really, because that's the thing, he's also fully aware that Cas is a divine creature, something so big and abstract that Dean can't even begin to comprehend, so despite needing him, wanting him, he never thinks that having something like that with Cas is even a possibility, that Cas would eventually move on from these two humans he's met because he's literally eons old, so he never tries anything, and then the angel is telling him he loves him and he's sobbing on the floor and UGH
This lines up pretty well with what Jensen says at conventions. The funny thing is I can see Dean telling himself this while also knowing he's just really a coward. Because it's easier to assume it's the case than have to face how scary the answer would be no matter which way it fell: Oh god, he can't love me. Oh god he just doesn't love me. Oh god he could love me. And so forth, ad infinitum...
I want a fic where Dean straight up says this to Cas's face, and Cas has to be like. 'You thought. I couldn't feel feelings?' Like both offended and appalled and at the same time looking at Dean like, 'I died for you so many times how are you this stupid?? Is it from trauma?'
I'm kidding. Cas would know it's from trauma, but he would still be offended.
PS: In case anyone wants to argue 'no feels for angels,' Hannah was on earth for 10 minutes before she was like TOO MANY FEELINGS MY STRANGE PASSIONS TOUCH ME WITH YOUR WHOLE BODY!! Not to belabor a point.
As an aside, both Sam and Dean do revisionism for their dad, and they both don't—in different ways. Dean does much of the revisionism in season 1, but Sam DOES also engage in this practice. They both hold to the narrative that "He did the best he could" (and Sam is the first person to say that, in "Bugs"). Like. Nobody wants to believe that their dad didn't give a shit about them? And I do actually think John... cared about them. But he cared about revenge more, and being right more, and being obeyed more. Sam and Dean have a lot of compassion for their dad, because that's what you do for your parents. But the anger—the resentment—also goes very, very deep, and there's a weird tendency to suggest that Dean was making excuses for John throughout the show while Sam saw the truth, and that is... not accurate. (Sam is also the guy who says "Well at least Dad didn't beat the shit out of us" in "Nightmare" and starts what he thinks is a funny story about John catching Dean drinking and Dean nearly being raped as a teenager.)
Dean's rage at John is there from the beginning, but he doesn't talk about it (voluntarily—so excluding when the Shifter reveals his feelings in "Skin") until Scarecrow when he still really can't get the words out. The bulk of Dean's anger? It comes after John is dead, and he admits how he damaged Dean, then promptly fucking dies and leaves Dean to clean up his messes yet again, turning his own apology into a big fat nothing burger. And when Sam starts talking about hunting in John's memory in 2.02? Oh boy. Cue disgust from Dean there. Then there's "Dream A Little Dream of Me", and Dean's treatises on dead beat dads (Sam makes... interesting faces there) through seasons 4 and 5, and not wanting to be like his dad in season 6 and ultimately giving up a family because he's terrified of becoming him. And in the midst of that, we also have Sam who. Largely... makes peace with John I think, actually, in a way that Dean never really does.
Are we going to talk about how Tall Tales also showcases Sam's classism re: Dean's flirting with the girl at the bar? How Sam vs how Dean sees her is fascinating.

if "john parentifies dean into an idealized version of mary" is true, than what are the implications when dean tells sam that he's just like john. what does this mean for "you can take it however you want." thinking about cycles thinking about sam getting upset whenever dean doesn't act like the made up version of himself that he presents to everyone thinking thinking thinking
One important nugget from 1.09 "Home" contrasting with 1.21 "Salvation". When John tries to chide Dean for not calling him to tell him about Sam's visions... he is criticizing Dean over something John... already knew. He already knew that Sam had visions, and I find it very very hard to believe he didn't demand the full lowdown from Missouri on what lead brought Sam and Dean to Lawrence:
But when Sam's visions appear to get stronger and have a deeper meaning, John is panicked and feels guilty, and he can't handle feeling guilty, so he immediately tries to rewrite history so that he didn't know anything and this is all Dean's fault.
He knew. He knew Sam had visions!!! He just doesn't want to take responsibility for that knowledge and that he didn't do anything with it and didn't follow up on it.
