Design review for Jhudora please?
Jhudora's design has remained relatively consistent over the years: long purple hair with a green streak, a matching purple dress with a green strip in front, and standard dark faerie bat wings with claws at the tips. What makes her striking is her color palette: most dark faeries are, you know, dark in color, but Jhudora's addition of green is unique to her. Sticking to a two-color palette, right down to her lipstick, also helps with the overall coherency of the design.
The other neat part about the green accents is that it ties her into Illusen, right down to the green lipstick and hair streaks. I do wish Illusen had some purple so they were truly balanced, but either way, it's a neat touch.
The only major variable I've noticed is that sometimes she has very long batwing-like sleeves, and sometimes they're shorter. Likewise, sometimes they have green inside, and sometimes they don't (I like the later). Her hair shape also changes on occasion. Compare the hair and sleeves here, with the right one being the better of the two:
Also, this might be a hot take, but I really like this earlier art of her. Don't get me wrong, the current art is better (she has a nose, for starters), but the aura of this design is on another level. The giant-ass ring with the two-inch nails and platform shoes?? Insane. I also like her looking a bit older, but that might just be because I get tired of all the faeries having the same face (also her and Illusen should probably be the same age).
Anyway, overall, a really good faerie design with a distinct look and a clear personality. (Also Jhudora is better than Illusen. Don't @ me about this)
In Super Mario World, the Vanilla Dome 4 level contains many tall white plant-like platforms (identified in Japanese official material as daikon, a type of large white radish common in Japan) that sometimes have green bouncy platforms attached to their sides.
These bouncy platforms are slightly glitched in that if the camera is moved with L or R so that they are at the edge of the screen, the opposite edge will act like an invisible extension of the platform (or in other words, the platform's collision wraps around the screen).
The footage shows Mario bouncing around on the invisible platform before doing a large jump. Note the visible platform on the left side reacting to his bounces. This is easy to do during regular gameplay and merely requires careful camera positioning.

had a dream that there was this new tiktok trend called "scrubbing" where people would take images of fictional characters and put them in images of bathtubs and drag around transparent pngs of soap and brushes with their tiktok art tablets and like liquify tool their hair down to mimic giving them a shower. and people would get into flamewars in the comments of every single video over the types of soap they picked and if the images had decently removed backgrounds and if they got soap in their eyes. and it got onto the news because it turned out everyone doing the trend was doing it compulsively like they physically couldn't stop and each video was a solid few minutes long because they were just collectively obsessively recording themselves fake-showering these fictional characters and arguing about it online
for the record I have never used tiktok and like explicitly in the dream I learned about it secondhand from a discord server so there's that also which is funny I think

did a bit of driving through the state of georgia today and wound up driving through a small town that i later discovered was called newborn, which is an odd name but doesn’t technically have anything wrong with it, except for the fact that i nearly gave myself whiplash doing a double-take at a building sign advertising NEWBORN TAXIDERMY
here it is... NEWBORN TAXIDERMY (and deer processing)

Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
TIL “Yankee Doodle” was written by the British to mock americans. “Doodle” is thought to come from the German “dödel”, meaning “fool” or “simpleton” and “macaroni,” a flamboyantly stylish type of dress, painting the Yankees as morons who thought placing a feather in one’s cap made them a “dandy.”
via reddit.com
so you’re telling me that “stuck a feather in his hat and called it macaroni” would be like saying “wrote a G on his belt and called it gucci”
that’s…a pretty good analogy actually
US moron came to town
Hunting for some coochie
Wrote a G up on his belt
And this bitch called it Gucci
Seeing my notifications get flooded with this every July 4th is the only thing I respect about America

The most interesting delivery jobs are the ones we were never supposed to do in the first place. Either some other courier ship has engine trouble, or the only supplier of a specific thing suddenly stops offering their own deliveries, or a customer is in an all-fired rush and we’re the only ones close enough to make it happen. Today was that last option.
“Congratulations, today you’re part of the catering staff,” Captain Sunlight told me in the hallway, handing over a payment screen with the job readout active. “Briefly, anyway.”
“Really,” I said, looking at the readout. “I’ve always wanted to deliver a cake big enough to trip over. There’s nothing hiding inside it ready to jump out, right?”
“No?” said the captain with that expression on her lizardy face that said she was refraining from asking for details about some Fresh Human Nonsense. “Just a very expensive dessert, for an equally expensive party, which is about to start and whoever was in charge of food managed to forget that part. Luckily for them, an establishment nearby has an appropriate item already made, though they don’t deliver.”
“And here we are to save the day. I wondered why it’s such a short jaunt.” I studied the map. “They really couldn’t spare anybody to run over and get it?”
Captain Sunlight said in an exaggeratedly snooty tone, “The wealthy never run.”
I laughed. “Yeah, I suppose they just pay us to do it for them, don’t they? A hefty rush fee, I assume?”
“Hefty enough to make it worth the risk of dangerous fauna.”
“Hang on.”

Horses exist in zoos, you're pretty sure. That's where they, more or less, belong. It's not like there's a stable next to the auto shop or something. Are there… wild horses? In… nature? Presumably, at some point, there must have been. Probably not, anymore. Oh, the race tracks, though. Duh. They probably have stables. Couldn't lose twenty thousand wen a day if there weren't losing horses to bet on. Horses don't belong at the gas station, but there's one here anyways. Its rider is wearing a leather jacket studded with old military medals; what looks like a torso-sized cogwheel, slung over her back like a shield; a broadsword, underneath the cog-shield; and a pair of holo-screen shades. She dismounts. She slides her card through the machine. The pumps start pumping. The horse sticks out its neck, dips its snout, and begins drinking gasoline directly from the nozzle. The rider holds the spout up to the horse's mouth, at a bit of an awkward angle. She meets your eyes, and shrugs. You know how it is. You don't know how it is. Later, you will see her on the news, clotheslining a police officer on horseback at seventy miles per hour. You will understand even less, and also, so much more.
