Racism in fandom spaces is actually insanely bad and if you ever try to downplay or avoid conversations about it because "fandom is supposed to be fun" then I'm not sorry to say this: You're adding on to the problem.
I can suspend my disbelief for a lot in Star Trek, but for some reason one of the things I have the most trouble with is the idea that entire species have one single language. (This is very much not a unique thing in Star Trek and basically all sci-fi does this, I’m just specifically talking about Star Trek here.) How is there one single Vulcan language, one single Klingon language, one single Bajoran language, etc.? I know it’s just done to simplify the writing process, but it’s so unbelievable to me. Even the idea that there might be one “main” language for each species and then a few other dialects which is occasionally hinted at feels unconvincing for an entire species on an entire planet.
I remember there were a few episodes of DS9 that talked about “Ancient Bajoran” which modern Bajoran descended from and I love that idea for the history of language on Bajor, but there should be tons of different languages descended from a language that old! Maybe an old form survives as a liturgical language while another somewhat related language is the primary dialect spoken in, say, the Rakantha Province. Maybe there are different branches of languages descended from Ancient Bajoran that are mutually unintelligible to each other but that can be traced back by scholars to a common ancestor. And certainly there must be other language families on Bajor for which no link to Ancient Bajoran can be established at all. How have Bajoran religious and governmental authorities historically treated these languages? How many small languages might have been wiped out or become endangered during the Cardassian occupation? What kinds of language revitalization efforts might exist after the end of the occupation? To think about any of this stuff you just kind of have to ignore canon, though.
I love characters who are like "I'm a terrible person" but when you look closer it's more like
"I adapted to survive something and now I don't know how to stop being that version of myself."
I explained the concept of "blorbo from my shows" to my 71 year old immigrant grandfather because I referenced it in passing and I thought nothing of it, until today when he said "I think I'll watch peaky blinders tonight and see my blorbo from my shows" referring, of course, to Cillian Murphy playing Tommy Shelby
English isn't his first language so he's not super in touch with modern slang, so I've been accidentally teaching him to talk like a tumblr user. His favorite thing to say lately is "me when I'm a little hater" when he's like talking shit about the neighbor's son
I explained the “x before gta6” meme to my immigrant father and he, in turn, explained to me how back in his day in Romania, they had the same type of joke, except instead of it being gta6, it was about the imminent death of a singer named Gică Petrescu, who everyone was continuously shocked by because he refused to die. Every time a momentous event happened people would say, in essence: “This happened and Gică Petrescu hasn’t even died yet?!?”
So. He understood the gta6 meme immediately because they apparently had the same thing in Romania when he was young, except way, way more morbid
OP are you telling me we got the death of Gică Petrescu before we got gta6

every time going from me1 to me2 catches me out like
attempting to exhibit self control
GOD there was a reddit thread talking about the extreme ways people were trying to save their true ending eternally so it could never be touched and reset and everybody would live on in their own digital universe
shit like copying the save to a flash drive and hiding it or locking it in an archive with an incomprehensible password
real talk its so interesting and cool that the undertale world and characters resonate so much to some that people go to such lengths to preserve their ‘existence.’ i just think thats so cool that the game does such an awesome job of making their existence seem real and important to you to the point where you refuse to replay the game
honestly, employing “refusal to play” as a satisfying game mechanic is–kind of magical. I mean, for real.

the fact that I’m reblogging this from a non-Xena blog I follow makes it even better. also GABRIELLE’S FACE LOLOL

maybe y'all didn't notice but fat people who don't hate ourselves sure did notice that people were obsessed with shitting on fat people in the late 90s and early 2000s (conservative political time) and now are again (fascist political time), coincidentally while the market for weight loss has become a 90 billion dollar industry due to glp1s.
you are not immune to propaganda. it makes some people a whole hell of a lot of money for you to hate fat people and fear becoming (or staying, I think like 70% or something of the US is fat) one of us.
a lot of the fearmongering over fatness comes from studies directly funded by the weight loss industry...i think people don't really realize or think about the fact that research can absolutely be influenced and skewed by its funding. there is also research that shows that an amount of the negative health outcomes for fat people come from anti-fat bias. if you go to the doctor with concerns and the doctor simply tells you to lose weight, your problem is neglected and you may not even bother going to the doctor with the next problem.
every fat person you know for the most part probably has a story like this, of medical neglect. many of the stories i've heard personally are when the complaint or the doctor wasn't related at all, like being told to lose weight at the ear nose and throat doctor or at the dentist. it's straight up just bias. it's such a thing that in the show Shrill it's portrayed, when Aidy Bryant goes to the gynecologist and her doctor suggests she get gastric bypass.
the studies on health and fatness are simply not that black and white and there is basically no research that shows that more than an incredibly tiny minority of people can lose weight and keep it off for more than like 2 years. bodies have set points that they gravitate towards, it's not a personal failure. this also is how the weight loss industry succeeds so well - repeat customers.
some of the harm associated with fatness is also due to weight cycling, which is very hard on your body and is even worse if you get off a GLP1, which according to a recent study causes weight to be regained at a rate that is 4x faster than without taking a GLP1.
you don't have to hate yourself. you don't have to hate other people for their body type either. it makes me so sad to see the thinspo tag going around again in 2026 a lot like it was back in the day.

The U.S. weight loss industry reached an unprecedented high in 2023, estimated at $90 billion, largely driven by surging sales of the widely

Thinking about how even though most people draw (understandable) parallels between Spock and Data, going by family dynamics Deanna Troi is a notable parallel to Spock.
-Half human/half psychic alien species
-Both's non-human parents were specifically famously effective Star Fleet diplomats
-Whether real or perceived seen as lacking in a lot of the qualities prized/specialized in by the non-human parent's culture. This is brought up untactfully by said non-human parent
-Nevertheless the field they went into heavily relies on said trait they allegedly don't have
-So much family drama
-Shenanigans related to betrothals that neither of them goes through with
Which is to say Spock deserved a moment similar to Deanna Troi where she got to storm out of a dinner where her mom was being particularly belligerent and smash a vase on the way out.
Wholeheartedly agree
beautiful cheetal and her baby Cheetos they are really beautiful like gather to take picture for memory to look at when grow ,look to their eyes focus to the camera man
Lots of drama in our household

surprisingly forward-thinking of jim henson and co. to make a female character in the 70's that's allowed to be loud-mouthed and violent and kind of overwhelmingly romantic and even a huge bitch at times and not have a moment where any character asks her to change
going through all the muppet movies in a row made me realize that like. miss piggy was made in the 70's. and it's so rare even today to have a character like her. she's loud, she's selfish, she's funny, she's extremely vain, she's obsessed with romance, she's violent, she's kind of annoying, and there's not a single moment in any of these films where she's asked to tone down any of these personality traits. i am not joking when i say that miss piggy might be one of the best treated female characters ever written

Vulcan teen on Vulcan [tiktok] saying "I have just lost track of my father in the grocery store." The camera turns to show the viewers the grocery store in which almost every single older middle-aged man has a bowlcut and long robes. Camera turns back to show the teen's face which is expressionless and yet communicates all it needs to.
