Holy blog revival batman. Anyways I went to the Tate Modern again and I’m gonna make it everyone else’s problem.
Currently working on a full blog post length thing about “feeling” abstract art but I wanted to share one of my favorite works in the Tate’s permanent collection. The emotions that washed over me as my mind was filled with the noise of a thousand radio signals is indescribable in text. Very impressive work that makes the viewer reflect on modern and past technologies and how the advent of the digital age has affected communication forever.

The Decadence can be seen as the diseased death-rattle of Romanticism. Romanticism represented a revolt against the 18th Century Enlightenment’s privileging of reason and rationality, instead venerating emotion, nature and, after Rousseau, the noble, unspoiled instinct of ‘natural man.’ Baudelaire laid the cornerstones of the Decadence in Les Fleurs du Mal – not simply revolting against reason, but casting a jaundiced eye on nature as well, seeing a world fundamentally poisoned. But he was no Naturalist, raking through the muck. He married Edgar Allan Poe’s fascination with the morbid to Théophile Gautier’s absolute worship of beauty, thereby setting the aesthetic climate for the rest of his century. Even as he writhed in his sick ennui, loathing humanity and his environment, he never ceased aching for the light, longing to go anywhere out of the world, and therein lies the tension that drives Symbolist art. It is Spleen and the Ideal locked in the tortured embrace of Schwabe’s painting. Its debased, syphilitic spleen was always worn like a rare jewel, and its glimmering, incense-scented ideals were always infected with the perverse.

I know this is going to make me sound pretensions but I have to get it off my chest. I feel an unimaginable rage when someone posts a photo and is like "this picture looks like a renaissance painting lol" when the photo clearly has the lighting, colors and composition of a baroque or romantic painting. There are differences in these styles and those differences are important and labeling every "classical" looking painting as renaissance is annoying and upsetting to me. And anytime I come across one of those posts I have to put down my phone and go take a walk because they make me so mad
In case you're curious here's what I mean.
Renaissance(distinct lines, stability and the individual man):
Baroque (bold, chaotic, dramatic):
Romantic(romanticize the simple hard working life):
Do you see the difference?

There's a deeply compulsive urge in a lot of White people to flay themselves open in this bizarre, uncomfortable confessional way where they just NEED Black people to forgive them for, idk, being white?? And they will openly admit to the wildest shit with the most pleading expressions and it's insane to me
Every time a Black person is like "the reason for x behavior is racism" they will get swarms of people being like "I DO THIS, BUT PLEASE HEAR ME OUT" like I need you people to please get a grip, you are talking to a person and what you are saying is absurd

Genuinely some of the kindest compliments I've ever received on a piece of my art; I had to reblog so I could thank you!!!! Means more than I can say when people type up whole paragraphs abt something I created. I'm very happy it means something to you. Thought I'd answer your question in the meantime: this was done on a 12x24 canvas, if I recall correctly! So, decently sized, but not too huge (cannot imagine the hell that would be). I spent roughly 2 weeks nonstop working on this I'd say? Put some major crunch time in due to the exhibition it was for being way closer than initially anticipated lol. And I did have to custom color mix all my colors ^^;; definitely took a huge chunk of my time.... but not quite as much as me having to redo a lot of my line art that kept getting painted over haha. Fun fact for you! The blue background is actually just the initial wash i had planned to put over everything! I planned to go back over it fully, and thicken it, but winded up liking the wash look too much so I kept it. Thank you again for being so nice

the irony of insisting something is AI, while being too lazy to click a link and look through the artist’s portfolio and see her work being featured in galleries/shows at various angles is mind rending
Yeah I've noticed a lot of random baseless "this is ai" comments that only happen to appear under a woman's artwork.
Two clicks lead to her Instagram where she has dozens of multimedia pieces using yarn
This one was a video that showed the canvases separately and then they're moved together on that bar that they're hanging from
She also has multiple other multimedia pieces using yarn in different styles and using things like phone cords and computer chips.
I highly recommend people check out her Instagram because she's amazing and only has 16k followers.

Thought I was getting negative feedback on my art from someone who said they hated one of my paintings but turns out they just hated how uncomfortable it made them feel when that is exactly how it was supposed to make them feel so really it's a compliment

the david zwirner gallery and the felix gonzalez torres foundation in the smithsonian removed the descriptive plaque for portrait of ross in la by felix gonzalez-torres. the old plaque explained portrait for ross' origins as the artist's partner's aids related death, and replaced it with a plaque with absolutely no information about the piece itself, who ross was, or who gonzalez-torres was either. portrait of ross was also reeranged to lay on the floor long ways instead of in a pile as it typically is situated, and the plaque outside the exhibition FOR GONZALEZ-TORRES omits his sexuality, as well as his aids related death. i'm in utter disbelief
