hi! i see a lot of tumblr users with pinned introduction posts- so i'll probably make this as a rough draft & update it as i see fit.

i'm ella (she/her)! i got into poetry at the end of 2024, and i really like writing it/documenting my progress on this blog! scroll back far enough, and you'll get the reeeally rudimentary stuff...

i'm still in high school, but i have a profound love for the english language and butchering it with my (probably) outlawed use of punctuation in my contrapuntal poems. i also like to read a bunch, as well as sing, bake, draw, paint, and play with my 2 dogs- luna & olive.

my poetry- i often forget to actually post my stuff haha. my poems (& prose- i'm too lazy to separate them) are under #poetry & #original poem. *if it is tagged with #poetry but not #original poem, it is still my original work- i'm just forgetful with my tags lol.* i write about anything and everything, from chronic illness, to my queerness, to my faith, to media i liked, etc etc etc

this is a poem about beating seasonal depression/the horrors of the world

a spicier one tonight

this is about chronic illness: the "good" days, the "bad" days, and the ways that it changes your relationship with your body

1. I want to live honest, I do,

To speak the truth to my friends,

To tell them what I mean without curtains ,

Enfolding what I wish to say;

2. I want to love honest, I do,

To never lie to another person,

To let someone pass the walls I build,

Allowing them entry to my real heart;

3. I want to live, honest I do.

To not crave silence and isolation,

To make the most of the time I have,

Surviving despite everything that has been done.

hi omg thank you so much 😭 this means so much to me i'm so glad you love my work!! i think when trying to describe something, if a metaphor isn't already in my head it can be hard to forcefully produce one. sometimes you just have to let the idea marinate. other times though, i can sit with it and write out the "saying it as it is" description and think to myself, "what am i mentioning about this thing? why am i even writing about it? what characteristics or emotions did i find important enough about it to jot down and why?"

for example, say i'm writing about the idea of grief, so i talk about how it's really hard and it hurts. what is that hurt? an ache, a hollowness, a nausea, a stabbing? what instrument could have caused it; a knife, a needle, a cleaver? now you can start getting more into the weeds of description. push down on the sensitive spots you find in yourself when writing about something and that's when your words start to get more interesting (because you're getting deeper!)
