Okay, so I’ve been looking through a lot of Tumblr kwami swap au’s lately. Including some really interesting ones where either Marinette or Adrien wields the butterfly miraculous. Sometimes as heroes, sometimes as villains, sometimes somewhere in between. In one au called “metamorphosis/aftermath”, Adrien finds the butterfly after his father was arrested and his motives are evenly split between giving the heroes a reason to stick around, and recreating some of the positive side effects of akumas (when people pay attention to WHY someone was akumatized and try to fix it).

So now I’m thinking, “You know who could be a fun character to play with that motivation?

Alya.”

Exactly how that characterization works comes down to 2 options.

1- Much like the metamorphosis au, Alya finds the butterfly brooch after Gabriel is defeated. This version of her was never Rena Rouge and never learned Ladybug’s identity. Unlike Adrien, Alya finds the brooch by snooping around the final battle, rather than Gabriel specifically leaving it for her. This Alya never fully gave up on trying to uncover the heroes’ identities. And as she’s talking to Nooroo and bemoaning the assumed* loss of the heroes with Hawkmoth gone, she also starts thinking about all the people who were only able to be heard and get a wrong righted because being akumatized made people pay attention.

I feel like Alya would be totally down for breaking a few rules to get the scoop, especially if it’s calling out an injustice.

And outside of the mind control aspect creating new trauma; getting superpowers to play with and an outlet for your frustration knowing that Ladybug will reverse the damage and that you won’t be held accountable? Would be incredibly therapeutic if it weren’t for the aforementioned mind control. But I digress.

Basically, by the time the heroes are 2 weeks into their well deserved hiatus, Alya has already talked herself into the idea that Justified Akumas + Keeping the Heroes Around = Good Journalism.

*They probably wouldn’t actually disappear without akumas. But Adrien probably needed a couple weeks off because I’m pretending he was included in the final battle and just found out his father was Hawkmoth. And Marinette was busy rebuilding the miraculous for at least as long. So from Paris’ perspective, they defeated Hawkmoth and decided they were no longer needed.

2- Alya is the original butterfly villain. I have no clue where the heck she would get it from in this au. (Gabriel and Emilie would still need the peacock, unless you just want to pretend Adrien, Felix, and Kagami we’re all born the normal way, in which case do as you please with the peacock.) But she was trying to use it to create superheroes because she LOVES superheroes.

Bad News: Her attempt to turn a bullying victim into a heroic Champion accidentally created an akumatized villain instead.

Good News: Her villain drew out some Actual Superheroes 🤩!!! This is the best day of her life!!!

By the time she masters Kamiko vs Akuma, she and her butterflies already have a reputation and she figures she might as well work with it.

As a side note: Where did Alya move from? She was new in “Origins”, so maybe that could inform any theories on where she got her brooch from?

Fact One: Miraculous has a surprisingly large and varied fandom, reaching far beyond its original target audience.

Fact Two: The vast majority of the fandom (maybe not counting the actual target audience. I don’t know a lot of 7 year olds who create fandom content, so I don’t see as much of their thoughts on the internet.), including myself, seem to have a love-hate relationship with the show.

There are obviously a lot of issues that fans tend to be divided on. Things that get people pissed off, frustrated, or just flat cringing.

I’m not here to go over EVERYTHING that’s wrong with the show. But I did have an epiphany today about one core conflict that might be the root of a good chunk of those issues. Now, let’s only hope that I can articulate it 😅.

Miraculous started purely as a kids’ show. As mentioned earlier, the original target audience is about 7 years old.

From what I can tell, the majority of the fandom (again, my data might be screwed since the target audience doesn’t usually post on Tumblr or Ao3, as they are 7) are not only older than that now, but even when they first discovered the show I think most of us were teenagers.

Season One was just a straight kids’ show. It was silly, repetitive, over-the-top, and had just enough depth for an older audience to be entertained if they’re willing to look past the repetitive surface.

The conflict, I think, was a clash between this model and the directions encouraged by an older, more mature audience that unexpectedly became interested in the show.

(I am not saying fans did something wrong, I’m saying the two directions weren’t balanced well. So please don’t get mad before I even explain.)

Considering the number of things that I’ve seen dominate mlb fanfiction for years before showing up in the show itself, I’m pretty sure the show writers do take what the fans want into account during the writing process. And I think that’s why the story content has grown more serious, complex, darker, and more mature with each season.

However, while the CONTENT has grown darker and more complex; the Presentation hasn’t. Even though the topics and plot lines have grown in weight and nuance, they aren’t being treated appropriately.

And the thing is, within a fiction, the line between “funny” and “disturbing” is partially dependent on genre and how seriously the show takes itself. So there are some things, like Marinette’s stalker habits, that work in Season One when pretty much everything was intended to be comedically exaggerated and hardly anything was meant to be taken seriously. But then we get to Season Six when most of the show has gotten a lot more serious, but bits like that are still being treated the same as they were in Season One even though the entire genre/tone/whatever-the-correct-literary-term-is-here has been completely overhauled and it doesn’t fit anymore.

So basically, I think what’s driving fans crazy is a poorly handled transition between target audiences. (Or at least, you know, that’s one of the big things. But talking about character favoritism and such would be a whole other post that I’ve already seen plenty of people explore.)

Ivan: *explains to Tori that the Guild avoids pulling jobs in places where a superhero’s loved ones might get caught in the crossfire and piss off said superhero*

Tori: “Wait, how would you even know? Don’t superheroes have secret identities?”

Ivan: *trying not to laugh*

Book two-

Tori’s new neighbors-across-the-hall: *trying very hard to pretend that Austin hadn’t been holding that couch up by himself*

Kyle: *says a neighborly hello in exactly the same voice as when his superhero persona had super sped Tori out of the path of a flying car just this morning*

Tori: “…”

Book vs movie on this one is crazy. Because the movie does a great job of portraying the events from the book. But there’s so much of the subtleties of Coryo’s inner monologue that simply doesn’t translate into the movie format. To the point where around the time he gets to District 12 my father (who is only seeing the movie for the first time and has never read the book) is asking “How is he not a good guy?” And he was confused about how this guy was supposed to become the sadistic President Snow.

Because Coryo was very good at pretending to be a good guy, helping people, telling them what they want to hear, being likeable, because it would help him later if the rich kids who were still rich liked him.

And the distinction between acting like a good guy in order to network and actually being a good guy, is a lot harder to see when you’re not inside his twisted head.

It is fascinating to look at Adrien and Felix’s respective behavior through the lens of/with full knowledge of their status as senti-beings and their respective parents’ supernatural control over them.

For one thing, Felix’s erratic, nonsensical behavior MAKES SENSE with that context!

Felix KNEW (presumably always, though we don’t technically know that) that his father controlled him through magic. He also understood that his father was an abusive a-hole. So he spent his life thinking about everything he wanted to do to express his pain and frustration. But since it wasn’t physically possible for him to actually make those choices, he never had to worry about the consequences.

Then his dad dies. Felix suddenly gains his free will. OF COURSE he has no impulse control! He’s never had the opportunity to develop any! So he’s doing every little weird, rude thing that runs through his mind, every scheme that he ever cooked up as a revenge fantasy. Just reveling in the ability to make choices and not thinking through the consequences. With his Mom being super supportive but frankly overly permissive because they survived an abuser together and she doesn’t have it in her to deny him any of his newfound freedom, even when he uses it to be a dick to people who don’t deserve it.

Adrien on the other hand, was manipulated more subtly, with significantly less understanding of the situation. There were a few things that he knew he wanted outside of his father’s plan for him, but he always expected any choices he made (with the exception of Cat Noir) to be something with would have to work with his dad to decide.

So when Adrien’s dad dies and he receives his amok, he’s NOT READY to think for himself. Everyone’s trying so hard to be sensitive and supportive and let him make his own choices, but he doesn’t know how. If choices were water, he’d be a desert child suddenly thrown in a lake without a single swimming lesson.

So yeah; Felix makes terrible, impulsive decisions until he experiences enough consequences to beat some forethought/impulse control into him. While Adrien freezes at having to pick his own outfit, until he spends enough time under his own control to actually develop opinions of his own on little things and not just the huge things (like being Cat Noir, dating Marinette, and staying with Natalie).

As soon as the Mansons heard that Wayne had obtained a child the same age as their Samantha, they rushed to Gotham to introduce her at the first possible Rich People Event. (Ages can range anywhere from WFA where Damian comes to Gotham at age 7, to the more popular trend where Damian comes closer to 12)

When left alone together, Sam resolutely ignores the boy on principle. Her parents can make her come, but they can’t force her to “network”. Damian ignores her in turn, not out of rebellion or any assumptions about her as a person, but because he’s tired of Human Interaction Where He Is Not Allowed To Stab The Humans. The silence is a nice break. Bruce notices that Damian appreciates the break, which is why he continues to encourage the Mansons to come.

For a couple years, that’s it. Two kids told to hangout stand on the fringes of a party and ignore each other. Until…

Sam wondered if she was having a weird lucid dream when, during one of her family’s visits to Gotham, she found Damian Wayne at her penthouse window at 1 in the morning. It was too weird to even question. She opened the window.

“You’re vegetarian, correct?”, he asked in lieu of a greeting.

“Yeah?”, she was too baffled to do anything except answer.

“You believe animals should not be slaughtered?”

”That’s right…”

“Are you willing to act on that?”

A razor edged grin took over her face. “Absolutely.”

Damian was still a little unsure of his place in his father’s side of the family, but he did know that the rest of his family ate beef (just as he had until he Saw). So, when he committed to this particular venture, he could only think of one likely ally.

They rescue Batcow together.

After that, they move from ignoring each other at parties to ignoring everyone else together.

Tim: *falls asleep in his food* Damian: “I can’t believe I’m legally related to that fool.”

Sam: “Honestly, I’d rather be asleep than at this party too.”

Damian: “Despite my father’s best efforts, there are still dozens of spare beds in this house that have yet to be filled by orphans or freeloaders. Follow me. If your parents notice your absence, tell them I gave you a tour of the manor.”

Later, when the Bats find out about the ghost problem at Amity Park and Damian displays an unexpected expertise in ghosts, they assume it’s because he grew up around a Lazarus Pit. But nope. It’s from his friend Manson sending him gossip and FentonTech.

OH! Damian should ask to spend the summer with the Mansons when they’re 14 or 15 without bothering to inform his family that he’s going to get some Ghost Specific training and offer Team Phantom some General Hero Training.

I think it would be funny if Damian did keep it a secret from Sam that his family are the Bats, but didn’t consider his background as an assassin Prince as the same secret, so Sam knows that he’s a ninja.

So the Bats think Damian is taking a break from being Robin to hang out with his friend this summer.

Sam knows that she invited an ecto-contaminated ninja to train as a ghost Hunter with her friends.

Damian knows that Amity is overrun with ghosts and that Manson and her friends are helping deal with it. He doesn’t know Danny has powers (not that it will take him long to find out).

Danny and Tucker know that they were talking about training and Sam said “I know a guy”, and then this kid showed up carrying an improbable number of hidden blades on his person.

I can’t help but laugh, because…

Leia - Was actually hidden. New family, new name, new planet, no connection on paper to Anakin or Padme or any fugitive former Jedi. No idea who her birth parents were or even if her parents know the answer to that question.

Luke - Goes by his actual name. Lives with his actual Uncle (a brother that Anakin KNOWS he has). They don’t even pretend that he’s Owen’s son instead of his nephew. He KNOWS that his birth father was Owen’s brother (he only has one). And his neighbor Kenobi didn’t bother to make up a fake last name to match his fake first name while he watches over the Skywalker boy.

I headcanon that when Batkids are play-threatening each other, they get super detailed and graphic because they find it funny (I’m totally projecting but who cares).

Dick: *steals Damian’s blanket to wake him up* Damian: “Next time we patrol I am going to drive my (specific blade that has its own name) into your intestines, steal your comms, tell Oracle you had to go to Bludhaven, and leave you to die of infection as your own feces invades your bloodstream.”

Tim: *is doing WE work in his bed after being awake for 30 straight hours* Jason: “If you don’t shut that laptop I’m going to take (name of bazooka), wait until you need to take a piss, and blow off your bathroom wall so the whole world can see you on the toilet.”

Stephanie: *messed up one of Bab’s drones* Barbara: “If you put one more dent in my things, I will hack into all of your college classes and make all of your assignments due in one week.”

Obviously there have been various cultural changes between the 90’s and now that would make a difference if Stargate SG-1 were to be rebooted. But the biggest difference is that the US actually has a Space Force now. So if we had off-planet military operations, it wouldn’t be the Air Force’s job anymore.

The problem here, is that if Space Force had actual extraterrestrial threats to monitor and the ability to actually go on off-planet missions, then Space Force would be Cool. And that would be Weird.

The best way to do this then of course, would be to have running jokes because the existence of the Space Portal is still Incredibly Top Secret Super Blackout Classified TM. So everyone on the outside thinks Space Force is a joke. The only people that even bother to learn what the SG members’ Official Cover Story SAYS they do for a living are the Space Force officers that weren’t selected for SG teams and ACTUALLY do… whatever Space Force does… (not making fun of the people who actually join Space Force. If I wanted to join the military, I’d pick Space Force too. But I am making fun of the people who decided that we needed to create a Space Force when we can barely send people to the moon and get excited at the idea of bacteria living on other planets. I doubt there’s anything Space Force can actually do about space that NASA doesn’t already do.)

Guys, I just realized something…

So, we know the Avatar Cylcle is the order in which Avatar Wan first gained the elements from the Lion Turtles, right? Great. Very mythic. Much cool.

But it has just occurred to me that Raava deciding to keep up this pattern

Could be interpreted as her creating a call-back to how she and Wan became friends.

Whether we see this as her wanting a memento of that time, reliving it as they master the elements together again, or even just a sort of inside reference between her and a soul that will always be Wan even when they don’t remember…

It’s sort of adorably humanizing.

I enjoy any Avatar content that comes my way, including Reckoning/Awakening of Roku. But presenting Sozin as sexist and trying to imply that it’s systemic didn’t really make sense? With any previously published material on the Fire Nation or even with the Roku books themselves?

Atla:

Azula is the favored heir for the THRONE. Has been from the time she was a TODDLER. She was trained in both combat and military strategy from childhood, just as much if not more so than her older brother. Not only was this the case when Ozai was Fire Lord, but even when Ozai was a Prince and the primary use for his children was to elevate his standing in Azulon’s eyes. Meaning Ozai did not see any detriment in winning his father over with a daughter rather than a son. So, Ozai doesn’t care about gender. Azulon, SOZIN’S SON, doesn’t care about gender. Despite Sozin’s comment in RoR, gender doesn’t appear to be a significant factor in line of succession.

Mai and Ty Lee clearly indicate that combat training for noble girls is not unique to Azula. In fact, considering how restricted Mai is portrayed and how she seems to have chosen to conform to the decorum expected of her station, it’s pretty clear that combative prowess is an EXPECTATION for noblewomen.

The Home Guard portrayed in “The Headband” is predominantly female. The guards at the Boiling Rock, the highest security prison in the Fire Nation, appears to have a roughly even mix of male and female. Admittedly, the deployed soldiers that are given faces/voices seem to be all male. Which could indicate a divide where men are generally stationed abroad while women are generally stationed domestically. But still generall not shy about women in the military and military-adjacent professions. (Obviously, military isn’t everything. But as the show is mostly focused on the war, that’s the majority of what we have to work with.)

Kyoshi:

Rangi and her mother exist. Hei Ran apparently even taught the Fire Lord himself, and as his former teacher is one of the few people in the world allowed to treat him like an equal, not to mention having been chosen to teach the Avatar twice over. Also, in Shadow, Hei Ran and Rangi’s main political rivals are female.

Yangchen:

At a time when each of the 3 more-monetarily minded nations could only interact and trade through one city each, the Fire Lord appointed appointed a woman named Chaisee to manage that city, and therefore the entirety of their immigration and international trade.

Avatar Legends “Era of Roku” information:

Yuyan archers were founded by a woman. One whom Sozin asked to pass on her archery training.

Technically Hundred Years War Era, but one of the pre-made campaigns centers around a female Fire Nation General.

Roku books:

Ta Min is able to go into a career in politics.

Dalisay is a scholar, apparently respected enough to tutor the princess.

Sozin himself, despite the occasional sexist narration, works almost exclusively with female specialists. A scholar with a rope dart, a mercenary, a politician.

Honestly, the vast majority of interesting Fire Nation characters we meet are female. All of them are clearly encouraged to excel (whether for their own benefit or the benefit of those who would use them). Many of them hold positions of power and respect. There is no particular indication of separate gender roles with the possible exception of where soldiers are stationed. So the handful of mental comments that Sozin makes don’t really mesh.

The Water Tribes were most definitely and explicitly sexist. The North more than the South, but the show clearly explored that as being part of both cultures. The Earth Kingdom doesn’t explicitly state anything about gender roles outside of beating them out of Sokka on Kyoshi Island, but it does appear to be implied as a patriarchal society (with the exception of Kyoshi Island itself. Though, considering Suki wasn’t confused by Sokka’s attitude and the island was so isolated, that attitude must have existed to some degree there as well).

The Fire Nation and Air Nomads don’t seem to have that. Ironic, considering the Air Nomads literally separated the temples by gender. But I’m pretty sure that’s mostly to ensure that children are raised by the Temple rather than a Family Unit, and what little we have about their daily lives shows no difference between the men and the women except for where their home base is.

Okay, so I actually have about 25368 MILLION versions of Izuku having a sister. So here’s another one entirely unrelated to my last couple posts about little sister Kanna.

Complete and utter Crack-Treated-Seriously.

In this AU, Inko dies when Izuku is 9 or 10 (I’m sorry Inko! It was necessary for the plot!). His older sister Azura is just turning 18 at this time (I asked Google and Japan moved the age of majority down to 18 in 2022) and no one can get ahold of Hisashi, so Azura takes custody of Izuku.

Also in this AU, Azura went through a program similar to Hawks, which the Commission was able to talk Inko into because Azura hurt herself in a quirk accident as a kid and the Commission promised to train her so that wouldn’t happen again. The original contract Inko signed expired on her 18th birthday, and she told the Commission that if they wanted her to ever sign another contract with them, they would help her take custody of her brother. (She’s not a public hero like Hawks though. She sticks more to underground, investigative stuff.)

5 or 6 years pass. Izuku goes to UA. AFO sees the Sports Festival and realizes that his own son is the new holder of One For All. How delightful! It should be incredibly easy to simply take custody of the boy and deal once and for all with that meddlesome quirk, right?

The first half of the plot (or second 1/3 of the plot, depending on how much time I spend on Azura initially taking custody) is just Azura OBLITERATING Hisashi/AFO in the courtroom as she very thoroughly demonstrates how little this man knows about his own children and how absent he’s been from their lives. (If anyone has ever seen the movie “Gifted”, think of the scene where the lawyer has to tell the bio-dad what his daughter’s middle name is.)

”And where exactly have you been for the last 6 years since your wife died?”

AFO: *can’t exactly say that he was coming out of a coma after being mostly-killed by the Number One Hero* “I’ve been working overseas to support my family for roughly a decade now. It was never a secret!”

Azura: “ ‘Support’ your family, huh? That’s interesting. Tell me, was leaving your children in foster care for the weeks between our mother’s death and my 18th birthday the ‘support’ you’re referring to? Because in the 6 years since I inherited my mother’s bank accounts, I have yet to see so much as a YEN of child support coming from you.”

The man hasn’t been this thoroughly destroyed since his last fight with All Might. A 200 year old criminal mastermind defeated by a 24 year old with Daddy Issues.

The last segment of the plot involves Azura going undercover in the LoV. These fools went after Izuku’s class. That made this personal.

When “Sensei” does his usual video call through the TV, Azura recognizes his voice and freezes. Afterwards, she calls her father and asks to meet so she can confirm her suspicions. Coordinating with her bosses at the Commission, they agree that Azura’s role will be to distract AFO and any backup he brings so their stealthiest agents can take him out.

And OH BOY does she deliver!

Azura: “I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU LEFT ME TO RAISE A CHILD ALONE AT 18 AND THIS WHOLE TIME YOU WERE JUST A COUPLE TOWNS OVER RAISING SOMEONE ELSE’S KID!!!!”

The LoV: “Oh $h!+, is she implying what I think she’s implying?”

Twice made popcorn.

*Points at Tomura* “WHEN WERE YOU GOING TO TELL ME THAT I HAD AN ADOPTIVE BROTHER, HUH! YOU KNOW, I THOUGHT YOU RAN AWAY BECAUSE YOU COULDN’T BE BOTHERED TO RAISE A FAMILY, BUT MAYBE IT’S JUST *OUR* FAMILY!”

”It can’t even be because ototo was born quirkless! I’ve heard what your little League said about your quirk, and I SEE those shoes Shigaraki is wearing. I KNOW you gave him a quirk!”

Tomura: “Ex-****ing-cuse me?”

Kurogiri: *gasps* Kurogiri: “Wait, why I gasping? I knew that.”

No one even notices their fellow villains dropping like flies because they’re too engrossed in the real life telenovela playing out in front of them.

“Kacchan!”

Katsuki’s head snapped down to stare at the nearest tiny extra in this stupid assignment. Familiar gray eyes stared up at him from under a mane of fuzzy black hair and a smattering of freckles. Katsuki blinked.

“What are you doing here?”asked Auntie Inko’s youngest child, a 7 year old Midoryia Kanna.

Katsuki looked at the rest of the second graders running around, and didn’t bother to return the question as he scoffed. “I’m here for a school project, brat.”

The little girl’s face lit up as she excitedly looked around the room. “Is Ni-san here! You two are in the same class, so he must be, right?”

He used to find it funny that there was someone in the world who saw him coming, and immediately started looking for Deku.

“The nerd has his own project today, so you’re stuck with me brat.” He didn’t feel like explaining that he was here because he screwed up, and Deku didn’t. Even as he watched her face deflate.

“Oh.” Kanna-chan started to turn away from him.

“Oi!” Katsuki wasn’t sure what he was going to tell the kid until it came out of his mouth, but that had never stopped him before. She turned back to face him. “You help me with this stupid project, and I’ll kick your brother back home this weekend. Deal?”

The brat shot him a grin he was used to seeing in the mirror, “Deal!”, and shook his outstretched hand. “What’s your project?”

“We’re supposed to ‘win these kids’ hearts’ or something dumb like that.”

Kanna blinked at him for a few moments. “You mean… make friends?” Her bold grin fell to something much more hesitant. Katsuki winced as he remembered personally contributing to Izuku’s utter lack of friends at her age, all because he was quirkless. Just like his sister.

She stared at the floor, chewing her lip, and Katsuki growled internally at not knowing what to say to her.

Her face shot back up with her grin in full force as she suddenly smacked his arm. “TAG! YOU’RE IT!” And then she was off like a shot.

Katsuki stared.

“NA NA NA BOO BOO, YOU CAN’T CATCH ME!”

A matching grin took over Katsuki’s face. “IS THAT A CHALLENGE YOU LITTLE BRAT!?!”

“You mean … make friends?” Kanna stared at the concrete and bit her lip. She was usually good at school projects, but that was something she struggled with. She might not be able to finish this deal.

Kanna bit down until she felt like she would almost bleed. Just because it was hard didn’t mean she wouldn’t try. Kacchan didn’t need to be best friends forever with all her classmates. This was for school, so it would probably count if they just played nicely for today.

Kanna’s grin surged back. That was it! Play. “TAG! YOU’RE IT!” And then she was off, weaving between classmates and quirk effects. “NA NA NA BOO BOO, YOU CAN’T CATCH ME!”

Kacchan blasted up over her classmates’ heads and started scanning for her. Perfect. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. She’d created sides. Now, she needed to get a big kid on each side, so her classmates would have to play with at least one no matter which side they were on.

“ILLUSION LADY! HIDE ME!” She giggled as the older girl blew out pink smoke, which cleared away to show all of her classmates looked like her.

Fic idea that I will hopefully, maybe, eventually actually write:

This story would take place in the school year leading up to Izuku receiving his super suit and returning to heroics. Conveniently, the math also lines up for that to be (give or take a year, in which case just pretend the math maths) the year that Eri and Kota would start at UA.

The main character would be my OC, Midoryia Kanna, who in this story would be Izuku’s younger sister. Like him, she was born quirkless.

Kanna loves her big brother, but she has a LOT of feelings and opinions about Izuku giving up on his dream of heroics after losing his quirk, especially considering for the first 7 years of her life, his plan was to become a hero *without* a quirk. In fact, Izuku’s choice NOT to become a quirkless hero after graduation was what inspired 10 year old Kanna to take up that dream in his stead, and train to be a hero.

Izuku gives Kanna ALL the support that he never had, though she can’t help but take it with a grain of salt after he gave up on doing this himself. He puts her through physical conditioning, analysis lessons, first aid training, the whole nine yards. And in every aspect of training Kanna always tries to push just a little bit further than Izuku wants her to, because accepting limits was what stopped Izuku from fulfilling this dream in the first place. (Izuku catches on to this and starts lowballing anything that’s dangerous to overdo that way when Kanna insists on overshooting his directions, she’ll still be within a safe limit.) Sometimes his Pro-Hero friends will help when they have time.

While getting certified as and then becoming a teacher, Izuku would use Kanna as a practice student to beta test his lesson plans. By the time she’s in his class at UA, she could recite his lectures in her sleep, so she just does her homework from other classes while he’s talking.

In addition to Kanna and the 18 kids I could find on mha wiki with a name and/or quirk listed, the one other member of this year’s Class 1-A is my best friend’s OC, Sano Chou. Chou is a prodigy whose Pro-Hero parents had to pull her out of school due to bullying for her “villainous” quirk. She has the ability to transfer any pain or injuries she has by touching someone, paired with chronic pain that means she always has ammo. Chou actually earned her Provisional Hero License at 10 years old and is attending UA in order give socializing with kids her own age another shot.

The story follows their Perfectly Normal (for UA) freshman year of high school.

Okay, ALMOST normal. Chou has a habit of spending her nights running around as a “vigilante” (except not because she’s licensed, but Dad never lets her patrol alone so she’s sneaking out is disguise. And of course, Kanna eventually finds out and insists on becoming her vigilante partner (except technically not because mha laws include quirk use in their definition of vigilantes, so a quirkless person can’t be a vigilante).

Izuku doesn’t understand why Inko is so nervous about sending another kid to UA. He loved UA! Until Kanna starts going on field trips and Izuku starts getting flashbacks to how HIS first year field trips went. Now suddenly Izuku is the one getting panic attacks while Kanna has Perfectly Normal field trips where the most dangerous thing that happens is Aizawa threatening to expel people. Izuku apologizes to his mother for not getting it before.

If I wanna keep the vigilante thing, I should probably come up with some sort of dastardly plot for them to unravel. We’ll see.

I’m debating whether Kanna tells her classmates up front that she’s quirkless (more in character), or lets them try and guess what her quirk could be for a couple months (funnier).

Do you ever think about the fact that most of what we think of as symptoms of illness; basic cold and flu symptoms; coughing, sneezing, runny nose, fever, puking;

None of those are directly caused by the bacteria/virus. Those are all part of the immune response.

I don’t doubt that we need the immune response. But I am curious what the illness would cause on its own without being masked/mitigated by said immune response.

Mostly because I was thinking about “humans are space orcs” stuff. And I remembered one story that claimed the alien immune systems weren’t nearly as aggressive as the human one, yet had those aliens experiencing the same symptoms that a human would if they had a really bad cold/flu. And I was thinking about how that doesn’t make sense because those symptoms ARE the immune system at work. But I don’t know how to correct it because I don’t know what the symptoms WOULD look like with a different immune system 🤷🏼‍♀️.
