Just like Slughorn, Albus Dumbledore collects people. Only, instead of focusing on those with influence, he looks to the outcasts.
The expelled half-giant. The young werewolf. The repentant Death Eater.
He protects them and gives them a second chance. All he asks in return is their loyalty.
And, if on occasion he requests that they undertake a certain task, invoking their debt of gratitude - well, that is no more than he is owed.
He once thought to add a certain disowned Black to his collection, but quickly realised his mistake.
Sirius is not an outcast, but a rebel. He knowingly chose his path, and chooses what price he is willing to pay for it. He refuses to be used.
So Albus Dumbledore abandons him.
Who gave you the RIGHT?
Dumbledore knows Siriusâs loyalty lies with Harry instead of him, and he has no use for someone who is not willing to follow his orders without question.Â
Ooooohoo if thereâs ever a post that fits my aestheticâŚ
okay but then where does Harry himself fit into this collection? Is he an outcast because he is âthe Boy Who Livedâ?
Nooonono, my friend, thatâs what makes this post so beautiful. Because it fits the meta Iâve been trying to get people to accept for years.Â
Harry was an outcast due to a childhood filled with abuse and neglect.Â
Vernon made him an outcast by dismissing his claims of magic, berating him, locking him in a CLOSET and putting bars on his window, and letâs face it, even though her editor made her cut it out, Jo intended for there to be physical abuse.Â
Petunia made him an outcast by enabling and contributing to this abuse, as well as making Harry do dozens of chores while doting on Dudley.Â
Dudley made him an outcast by bullying him and threatening any students at school who wanted to be his friends.Â
And the rest of the wizarding world made him an outcast when they bullied him for being an outsider.
Harry James Potter became an outcast the moment he was placed with The Dursleys.
And who put him there in the first place?
Iâm here for this Anti-Dumbledore discussion.
This makes even more sense when you consider why Dumbledore deliberately made Harry an outcast.
Think about it What would Harry have been like if he had grown up in the wizarding world? Or, to put it another way, what would Harry have been like if he had grown up in a world where magic was the norm?
He would have taken magic for granted. He would have been less likely (especially as he got older) to view Dumbledore as a wise mentor and more likely to see him as flawed and capable of bad decisions. He would have seen both the world and Dumbledore as ordinary, with their good points and bad points.
But Dumbledore didnât need a well-adjusted boy who took magic and the magical world for granted. He needed a child who would love the magical world unstintingly, even irrationally, because it was a haven from neglect and abuse. Even more, he needed a child who feared this world becoming evil and who therefore would not question someone that he saw as the ultimate authority, especially if he believed that obeying that authority would keep the world safe.
Even if obedience meant his own death.
Dumbledore wanted a martyr who would die for the wizarding world, because he believed that Voldemort could not die until Harry did. Which was why he left Harry with the Dursleys and let them neglect and emotionally abuse him for the next ten years.
To get a martyr, he first had to create a victim.
well⌠well, shit
Oh shit. Its been updated.
âŚIâve been in the âDumbledore was on the darker side of morally greyâ camp for years but thisâŚthis. Holy shit. Oh no.
Well damn
Holy shit.

First, I wanted to say that I love love love your Harry Potter fics and what-ifs! thank you so much for writing them :) And I also wondered if you ever written what if the Dursleys had refused to take Harry in?
When Petunia Dursley refused to take Harry in she forfeited his birthright protection, so Dumbledore took the baby to the safest place he knew: Hogwarts.
The applicable staff (mostly just⌠not Snape) took Harry in on a rotating schedule as he grew from baby to toddler to child. They traded extra credit for babysitting among the older students, and Harry grew up knowing a few dozen different laps that were safe and warm to nap in.
This was a Harry who grew up among books, among old transient walls and learned professors. They gave Binns night duty sometimes, and let him talk young Harry to sleep. This was a Harry whose world changed, on principle, daily. The stairs moved. The walls became doors. You had to keep your eyes openâyou had to pay attention. So he did.
He grew up in a school. Knowledge was power, but knowledge was also joy. This was his sanctuary. There was magic in his world from birth.
âThe castle will keep him safe,â said Dumbledore, when McGonagall came into his office to complain for the eighth time about Albusâs rather cavalier take on child-rearing. âThatâs what it does.â
âThen why do we bother with chaperones ever,â McGonagall said, tempted to shriek it. âShould we let all the children run about willy-nilly at all hours, or just the orphan waifs?!â
âHeâs not a student. Heâs a ward of Hogwarts. It will take care of him, Minerva.â
McGonagall walked off fuming. A cat with spectacle markings followed Harry almost constantly from ages three through four. At some point McGonagall was far enough behind on her paperwork, and had seen enough suits of armor carry the kid back to his room, enough draperies lift off the wall and tug Harry away from edges, and enough stairs creakingly shift their slope for his tiny toddler legs. She gave a grumpy sigh, stole some of Albusâs lemon drops, and resigned herself to a magical world.
The Grey Lady, the ghost of Ravenclaw Tower, didnât really like boys but she liked children. She especially liked patience, and politeness, and Harry had been raised by McGonagallâs stern table manners, by Victorian portraiture and quite a few House Elves. He said please, thank you, and ma'am, and as a child he was very cunning in how he got bedtime stories and bedtime snacks out of most every adult he met.
The Grey Lady told the best stories, you see, the ones with riddles in them. You had to think and ask questions to get all the way through them. So he hunted her down with big patient eyes and plates of very smelly cheese, and she told him stories that made him think.
When Harry was stable enough on his feet to walk, and then to run, Sir Cadogan would race him through the castle, the knight scattering banquet tables and galloping across landscapes, twisting through the abstract gallery up on the seventh and a half floor. Harry stumbled and sprinted up stairways and didnât notice for years the way Cadogan waited at the end of corridors for him to catch up.
Harry was a chubby-legged toddler, in this worldâcute cheeks and stubby limbs. Itâs a cute image, yesâ but this is important. He was a chubby kid. He ate in a high chair on the teacherâs dais, getting peas and mashed potatoes on the adults beside himâ Sprout laughed. Snape didnât.
But this is importantâHarry filled his plate. He wobbled up on little legs and grabbed biscuits from the table, slurped his soup, got marinara sauce on his chin and forehead and somehow behind his ear. When he was hungry, he ate. If he snuck down to the kitchens at night, it was for the adventure of it and nothing else. When he was hungry, he ate.
When he was four, they started letting him go sit down with the students. Bill Weasley, on route to be a prefect next year, took him under his wing and scrubbed his face down after meals. Harry was passed around the Hufflepuff table; theirs was the House Common Room he most liked sneaking into, with its barrels and cozy warmth. Nymphadora Tonks turned her nose a dozen different shapes to make Harry laugh, gurgling, as a toddler (and then a child) (and then for the rest of her life, honestlyâit never stopped being funny).
The whole Ravenclaw table got distracted from meals, trying to solve riddles from a book one of their Muggleborns had smuggled in.Harry pushed his fork through his gravy, trying to draw out his thoughts but only making squiggles.
It was years before Harry sat at the Slytherin table for the first timeâno one had ever set him down there, like they had with the others. But he liked greenâit was the color of Professor Sproutâs greenhouses, where he went and napped sometimes in winter. It was the color of his motherâs eyes, from the little book of moving pictures Hagrid had given him when he was three.
All the Slytherin kids seemed big, but everyone Harry ever met seemed bigâexcept for Flitwick, who was seeming smaller with every growth spurt. He leaned forward, teetering on the bench, and grabbed a chicken drumstick. âHi,â he said, because heâd had a childhood full of tea parties with high portrait societyâ the French nobility and the tired housewife from the third floor and an old witch with her sleeve on fire but very particular table manners. âIâm Harry. Whatâs your name?â
By the end of the meal, they were flicking peas across the table with their spoons, like catapult projectiles. Harry had been unwelcome in so few places in his life, after heâd left 4 Privet Drive, that he simply didnât expect it. He asked Warrington, a Slytherin with shoulders like a bulldogâs, to help him with the juice, which was too unwieldy for his kid-sized wrists. Harry sat there blinking, smiling, until Warrington took the jug and poured him a brimming glass.

âIf it fits, I sitsâ
Oh my word, this is freaking adorable
I CANNOT
I cannot even! I stan
Every 15 days in 15 months
Before passing the Physician Licensure Examination last March 2018, I thought I had my entire career mapped out: take the boards, residency, then establish a name for myself: straight and narrow-but it turns out, God had other plans for my future-and it involved a lot of vaginas.
Moonlighting as far as I was concerned, was never part of my plans. Straight laced as I was I never had the intention of going on a Sabbatical. But, I took the road less travelled by (in my career plans anyway) and it brought me to Surigao.
Still fresh out of the PLE, I was starry-eyed and still riding the high of finally earning the most important two letters right after my name; to say that I was undecided about pursuing this job was a huge understatement-due to the fact that the department left me with scars when I was still a Senior Clerk in Medical School. But I took the chance, never looked back, and realized that I didnât regret it one bit.
Its 9:00 am: I am wearing my matching scrubs, white coat, and pink Crocs-standard wear for my status of the day: 24 hour DUTY. If you know my history you would be astounded as to where I am assigned: Obstetrics and Gynecology Emergency Room.
My heart is pumping, my knees shake, and I break out in sweat; it was like facing my worst fears and being stuck in a nightmare all at the same time. I was always glued to the phone due to my referrals that I didnât notice the sun start to creep in the horizon; my 24 hour duty was about to end-I survived it! I could almost jump for joy at this realization. I admitted 20 patients that day.
Overtime, I was able to adjust: my IEs became accurate, assisting ORs were like second nature, I was able to perform an Emergency Cesarean Section with the guidance of one of our consultants, and I consider not calling my consultant on duty in the wee hours of the morning: small victories. But what made it bearable and easier, was the people I was working with. I admit that it was not smooth sailing all the way, but what I have learned and the new set of skills I have acquired was all thanks to the people whom I have met through this journey.
There were tears shed, amniotic fluid ruptured, and most especially countless IEs done to mold me as to who I am today. I may not choose OB as my specialty and I may have been hesitant at first but never did I once think about regret. Regret about being assigned in this department nor regret about travelling to Surigao for work.
Another 15 days has been completed and itâs time for the next batch to go on duty. Before it is time for endorsements, let me just express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone (you know who you are đ) for being a big part of my journey in Surigao; thank you for being patient and understanding as I learn how to navigate being your doctor, and most of all thank you for never giving up on me when I was ready to admit defeat.
This is not farewell but an âIâll see you soonâ. It might not be for a while, but rest assured that there will be a next time. So until then, I will see you soon.
Wake up call
There are good days-which I am thankful for. Then, there are days where you just want to go to sleep and never wake up: this is one of those days.
Two years has passed and I am nowhere near recovery. I relapse almost everyday and it's hard: hard to pretend to be okay and even harder to live. Almost everything triggers my fragile psyche, it makes me feel as if I am a failure and that feeling is not even helping. I feel as if everyday is a never ending chore; how does one survive? Sometimes, I feel as if I am in a nightmare and I will never wake up.
Insomnia
Insomnia is my drug and I am an addict. Hello and this is my confession.
Like an addict, I crave my next hit. My hands shake, my eyes dart to and fro, and shame hits me like an incoming train when I realized that once again, I have lost-lost my battle to that sweet, sweet nectar of my addiction.
I do not have an ounce of self respect nor self control left, I have long sinced accepted my fate. For now I will succumb to the Siren's call and let insomnia lead and be in denial once again that I am entirely in control.
My eyes are heavy, my mind is numb, and I am tossing and turning in bed. All the symptoms are there as I relish my next hit.
I once drunk messaged my friend about how I thought Tom Hiddleston, Tom Holland and Tom Felton were like the deathly hallows with their most well known characters, I sent this :
Tom Hollandâs character Peter Parker is mainly invisible and like really smart so he would be The cloak of invisibility
Tom Feltonâs character Draco Malfoy just wanted a bit of love in his life so he would be the stone of resurrection
And Tom Hiddlestonâs character Loki just wanted all the power so he would be the elder wand
And to be honest I have never felt more proud of my brain đ
Just leaving it here for @niffizzle đđđ
How right you are...

Stale
The smell of sweat permeates the air and all I taste is the stale beer that I have been nursing for the past hour. I would do anything to feel alive again and this time it has taken me to this hole in the wall "club" that the millennials have been going to. The music is loud and it drowns out the voices in my head but now, they resurface; the bass is thumping and I do not know the person who I am dancing with; all I know is that I feel something: something that I do not know what to call. Is this what being alive means? Being socially functional?
Now I am stationary, no longer dancing, I am back to nursing the beer I have left behind and I wonder if someone will pick me up too.
Red lines
It's 2:38 in the morning, my alarm is set to ring in a few hours, and I haven't slept yet. I am currently in bed, prone, studying the Infectious Disease chapter of my Internal Medicine review handout marking the highlighted words in red lines and circles. In less than 25 days I will be taking, for the second time, the biggest exam of my career so far.
My sympathetic response is not really functional. It is highly suppressed by my medications; of this I have yet to discover if it's a good thing or a bad thing. There are moments that I would highly regard it as a good thing; I mean who would want palpitations and sweating? I seriously don't. But at times, like today, it's a bit of a hassle-my anxiety now manifests as insomnia, which is not helping my already anxious addled brain.
Help me sleep why don't you?
