my blog is just one long love letter to myself and all the people i used to be

its been like a decade and i still don't understand the urge to put your lights on a wifi network

I know people were sayign this from the very beginning but like, what actual convenience does that provide for you that a light switch doesnt' have already? You have to set up bullshit on your wifi (which is always a nightmare, even before you get to the security vulnerabilities) and in turn you get...a point of attack for your home network that literally anyone with third-grade javascript knowledge can exploit.

Everything else that's got like, schedules and stuff, could be solved by simply putting a basic scheduling function that my parent's programmable thermostat had back in 1997, no wi-fi or networking required.

For everyone who ‘used to love reading’ but now hasn’t finished a book in years, you CAN get it back. Genuinely start bringing a book (preferably short and either fiction or a non fiction topic you already really enjoy) everywhere you go and when you have 5-20 mins waiting for the bus or at the doctors office or mechanic or whatever, get out your book and read it! You don’t have to finish it quickly or even read it often but it is so good for your brain and fun to get into the habit of reading more (and replacing being on your phone for those moments).
