i honestly don't really understand why "some people prefer watching gameplay online rather than playing games themselves" is treated as such a taboo when being a spectator is considered a pretty mundane way to engage with most sports, game shows, reality tv or even just like. chess.
A thing no one talks about re: ADHD is that you can't... gain experience, the way other people do.
I don't mean you can't get good at things through repeated practice. You can do that, I have done that, but I don't trust it.
I was driving this morning and thinking about how I have never developed the blasĂŠ contempt for it most people seem to despite never having caused an accident in 20 years because my sense of time is such that I might as well have been driving for a week. I'm a good, safe driver, but I do not have a heap of confidence in my driving despite having regularly done it for two decades because my sense of time is such that those two decades may as well not have happened.
I finished editing a novel today. When I publish it, it will be the 64th novel I have published in the last 10 years, not counting ghostwritten work. You'd think after a decade and 63 novels I'd be confident that I was capable of writing, editing, and publishing a novelâeven be confident about the timeline for thisâbut no. No, I feel like I'm doing it for the first time, every time, and I was surprised to have finished the editing at all, let alone on time. Because those other 63 novels were published in a past I have a vague at best concept of. I have a record that says it happened but I do not feel it.
I cannot trust my future behaviour because for me there is functionally no past. I know it occurred, I have records, but I don't feel it the way people without this kind of memory issue do. I feel inexperienced at everything I've ever done and I cannot accurately estimate my skill level at anything, particularly not on the fly.
I don't have a solution to this I just find it an incredibly frustrating phenomenon.
I genuinely unironically like it when people use the word "relapse" without clarifying what exactly they're talking about. Like you've had a problem and you've been working on having less of that problem but you momentarily went back on your bullshit for a little there. None of anyone else's business what that was, you've already said everything they need to know.
ive found that partially treated mental illness can sometimes look to uninvolved onlookers like faked mental illness.
"someone who really has pOCD would be disgusted and horrified at their intrusive thoughts" or maybe i'm in therapy & am going by the books, being radically ambivalent to my intrusive thoughts instead of wasting energy mentally washing my paws of sin. i'm not going to perform my rock bottom for you for the sake of being believed.
"I won't perform my rock bottom for you for the sake of being believed" is going straight into my permanent storage holy shit

After 13 years of this, it's still funny to me that detailing a full mental breakdown on tumblr is standard fare, but posting a nice selfie is a fraught decision.

MISFITS (2009-2013) 1.06 â "Episode Six"
and while weâre at it, fuck this idea that ONE ACCOUNT has to belong uniquely to ONE PERSON. This is the same thing these silicon valley fucks want; their vision of the future where everyone has a unique biometric ID code implanted in their body is the ultimate extension of Netflixâs âno password sharingâ policy. You want to use your friendâs car? Sorry, you canât, you need to be an authorized user. Your mother wants to let you look something up on her OED account? Too bad! Thatâs only for her! The concept of perfect market efficiency gives them greedy little money bag eyes.
If I pay money to have a newspaper sent to my house, they donât charge me extra when I show it to my dad. This password sharing thing isnât just a Netflix problem; donât be surprised if it shows up elsewhere in other forms. Stamp this idea out now or weâll be stuck with it.
This is by far the most popular post I have and I have to say: good, Iâm right. Password sharing and ID verification are going to kill the internet. not oooh in 50 years. in like 5 more.
Fun fact about me is that I'm stupid.
When I was a child (maybe six years old?) I asked my parents what thoughts were, and they told me "they're the pictures in your head". I agreed like this explained things, but unknown to all of us, I have aphantasia, and since I never had pictures in my head I secretly concluded that I was incapable of thought. The way people talked about thinking made it sound really important, so I went for literal years carefully guarding this secret and when people told me to think about what I was doing etc. I'd stay quiet and pretend I was capable of thinking. I didn't want anyone to find out I couldn't think.
When I was about eight, my mother's horse ate sand and got colic and she was up all night with him. The next day, I was told that he went to live on a nice farm.
I was in my thirties before I thought back to the situation and realised that Zamada had died.
I was literally too stupid to punish as a child. I have a lot of very clear memories of being sent to sit in a corner or told to stay in a class at recess and my opinion of the situation was 'I guess this is my role in whatever the current school activity is'. It wasn't until I was in high school that I realised that I'd spent so much time in reception and year 1 in time out or detention. Did not even register that that was happening at the time.
I used to have a very strong fear of snakes and when I was a little kid I was, for some reason, under the impression that the snakes had some kind of secret conspiracy where they wanted to kill me. We had frequent power outages (I'm unsure if it was the area's infrastructure or if my parents just couldn't keep up with the electricity bills) and every time the power went out at night I'd jump up on a chair or table or something and refuse to come down until I had light, because I believed that snakes had bitten through the power cables and were swarming across the floor in the dark ready to bite me while I couldn't see them.
I thought that Jesus was just a guy who obtained magical powers by being born on Christmas Day and decided to use his powers to help people. Like a superhero. I didn't know anything about superheroes at the time so when I later learned about Superman and Batman and stuff I was like "oh, like Jesus Christ!"
My great grandmother was also born on Christmas day and I could never understand why she either didn't have magic powers, or did but kept lying to me about it.
#baby derin sounds like such a fun kid oh my god
I hope you like math because Baby Derin would spend all of their time asking hypothetical questions about it and intuiting the relationship between multiplication and division and power relationships, which was frustrating for everyone involved because we hadn't learned the words for any of those things in school yet so I would take forever explaining something like 4^4 as a series of additions. Addition and subtraction were the only things we'd learned how to do, so describing a multiplication table (which I was inventing on the fly) to my mother, who was just trying to get the laundry done, was a long, long ordeal of serial addition and she would have no idea what I was trying to say.
For the people asking in the notes. Yes I have autism.
#Hey you also got to clarify that owning a horse is a normal thing here and not signs youâre decedant from a long line of ceos or something#bc apparently in the usa and europe thatâs what they think of you have a horse
Zamada lived in our backyard in our falling-apart house where we struggled to pay rent and utilities. He was useful because we couldn't always pay to keep the family car working so Mum could ride him to her job at the racecourse, where (if my memory serves) her boss let her exercise him for free off the clock. Her job was exercising the race horses.
I think. I was very young and my memory isn't great; I might be conflating a few different things. But we did have a sad failed racehorse that Mum got for super cheap because the other option was glue factory, and we were poor as shit. After Zamada died we got a goat to keep the grass down (I don't think we had a lawn mower), but we had to give him away when we couldn't afford to rent a house any more because you can't keep a goat in a car.

everyone loves to hate terfs until they realise that it actually entails rejecting bioessentialism entirely and then suddenly youâre âtaking things too seriouslyâ and you âdonât have a sense of humourâ like iâm sorry but saying protect the dolls doesnât make you immune to terfism it has seeped into every corner of mainstream feminism and unless youâre actively searching it out and checking your own biases you will always be at risk of sharing a space with terfs
âOnly women canââ nope. âBut all menââ nah. âThe divine femininity ofââ gonna stop you right there. âEveryone born amaââ if you finish that sentence Iâll kill you. âMen donât experienceââ youâre wrong. âGender isnât real but sex is immââ *loud incorrect buzzer*
It also goes without saying that bioessentialism inherently canât be trans inclusive no matter how hard you try. âAll men including trans menââ probably not. âThis is only a womanâs issueââ is it really? âAfabs onlyââ why? âAll trans men are likeââ what? what are they like? finish the sentence i dare you.

So, Yahoo bought Tumblr. I am very sad now. Tumblr was my life source. It kept me alive for so long and now⌠I donât even know what to do. I can feel my body becoming weak. You ruined it Yahoo. I donât even want to use Tumblr now if itâs going to be run by you. I might as well start planning my own funeral because I donât know how long I will live without my power pack. Yes, I referred to Tumblr as my power pack. Why, you might ask; because when Iâm not on Tumblr the world feels all wrong, but when Iâm on it, I feel my energy rise. It kept me going and now you have taken that away. Great job! Iâm sure Iâm not the only one who feels this way. Do you feel good about yourself Yahoo? Does it feel good taking away millions of peoples life source? What do we have to live for now? Yes, I know David Karp is the CEO still, but come on! Youâll probably just boot him out eventually. You suck Yahoo! You absolutely Suck! Oh, and by the way David Karp⌠We are no longer bffs. Youâre not even an f. Youâre just a b and it doesnât stand for best. How could you let this happen? I thought weâd be tight forever. Now look what youâve done. You have made the Tumblr population very sad. You should be ashamed of yourself. You hear me? ASHAMED!

me [age 19, still thinking I'm neurotypical]: here is my definitive ranking of buttons by tactile satisfaction
Are you just. Not gonna post the ranking? Genuinely monstrous behavior smh.
okay so the best button from a tactile perspective is a Jiaben DA7. this motherfucker clicks. the force curve gives it gravitas, like the kind of button you'd use to deploy your squad of killer cyborg sharks. I keep one at my desk as a fidget.
however it is a bit loud. that's where my second choice comes in, which is actually this generic metal 12mm button that costs about ÂŁ2 on aliexpress. these have a really nice tactile snap, although they don't need as much force to actuate as the Jiaben and they also have a little less travel distance, which makes them a bit less satisfying to me. that's the tradeoff for them being almost silent. a good walking-around fidget! I'm working on making one of these into a keychain.
the next tier would be things that aren't all that much fun as a single button because their actuation force is too light and/or they're too small, but they're satisfying in a long-term functional role. good mechanical keyboard switches and Omron mouse buttons fall in this category. my favourites are Gateron low-profile bananas. I love typing on these things so much that sometimes I just sit at my desk and type nonsense for the stims.
then you have your "upper end of mediocre" buttons. I have one of these 19mm "mushroom" style ones I quite like. the big size and lack of an outer housing make it a fun "OH SHIT" button. you could use it as an emergency stop for a dangerous workshop tool, or maybe a crisis mode button where you push it when you're having an anxiety attack and it texts your friend "please send cat pics"
the lower end of mediocre is mostly taken up by plastic buttons. they usually suck. sometimes the rocker-style ones you find mostly in cars and boats can be surprisingly good, but most of them are unbranded so it's hard to predict whether you'll get a good one or not.
at the very bottom of the list is this motherfucker: the Yumo Electric ABS-series ball head button, and its many clones. they lull you in with a shiny metal casing and you think, that'll be nice and clicky, right? but it isn't. this is the mushiest goddamn thing ever constructed. if you made the Pope push one of these he would publicly declare that God is dead.
