- During his time as a dissident in South Africa, he discovered that a young male was harassing two of his female followers. He responded by cutting the girls’ hair off to ensure the “sinner’s eye” was “sterilized.” He later boasted about the incident in his writings, pushing the message to all Indians that women should carry responsibility for sexual attacks upon them.

Also, one of the most important things that happened which to date shapes the country’s social setting is Gandhi refusing to vote for a separate electorate for Dalits. Dalits have a long history of discrimination in India as they were (and still are) recognised as ‘the lower caste’ while Brahmins represent the ‘upper caste’ according to Hindu ideology. For context, Gandhi was a Brahmin.

Ambedkar, a Dalit and the chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee, said that Dalits need a separate electorate for self-determination in a country that does not even allow them the basic human rights. Gandhi refused this as he claimed this would further the divide in the country which was already very divided. But the fact that the caste system exists means the country is already fucking divided and by refusing a voice and autonomy to a historically oppressed group is not helping???

In his writings, he talks with such authority, asking people what they should and shouldn’t believe in (spoiler alert: they absolutely SHOULD believe in whatever he says otherwise they’re a terrible person).
