howdy silver silvertips :] okay so important context I am a marine biologist so the fish question was very easy for me. however i am also a general environmental scientist so this one is pretty slam-dunk too if not as detailed.

kingfishers: ironically this has nothing to do with fish. i mean kingfishers do but that’s not why they’re one of my favorites. they’re my favorites because they have infinite aura. that bird is cooler than you and they know it. fucking super little guys i adore them. what a banger bird. and don’t even get me started on dwarf kingfishers

red-tailed hawks: a classic. good bird of prey. very loud. beautiful coloration. they mate for life. occasionally they take over urban spaces to nest and there’s not much you can do about it because they’re protected (at least in the US). and i do love a good middle finger to the human race. sick ass feathers, great hunters, a heart full of love; what more could you ask for in a bird

scarlet macaws: can you tell i like colorful wings? look, this is another classic. for those uninformed, this is your stereotypical red-with-blue-and-yellow-accents ‘parrot.’ their noises are fucking awesome and they communicate by honking loudly at each other. plus they like to fight each other during mating season and I think that’s awesome

hi claire this is a really hard question but im going to do my best so please bear with me:

stereotypical answer: whale shark. biggest existing fish species (yes, as a type of carpet shark, they are fish) and so so fascinating. did you know they can maybe regenerate small parts of themselves?? and they can retract their eyeballs?? they're intelligent and will play with divers. plus they're just so so gorgeous

nerd answer: dragonfish. yes all of them. what an amazing example of evolving to fit your niche. bioluminescence itself is so cool (it's evolved independently a FUCK ton of different times) and the way these guys do it is like no one else. short and long-wave light?? unique ability to see far-red wavelengths underwater?? great job gang I'm so proud of you
