dark green is a nice color. underrated
ladies and gentlemen, Phtalo Green
This is literally my favorite color. 😩 Smaragd green is another dark shade of green that I’m absolutely obsessed with.

unironically love the phrase “but I’m being so brave about it” because truly, like, what other choice do we have in this wretched existence? what a beautiful way to remind yourself to keep going, even if only out of spite
Tolkien’s writing style gets criticized so much because of his heavy use of descriptions and imagery, especially of nature, but I just adore how he conveys images. Each time I reread his works, I find myself amazed once again at how beautiful, lush, and evocative his writing is. These are some of my favorites I’ve noticed as I’ve been catching up on the newsletter:
“Away eastward the sun was rising red out of the mists that lay thick on the world. Touched with gold and red the autumn trees seemed to be sailing rootless in a shadowy sea.”
“The West wind was sighing in the branches. Leaves were whispering. Soon the road began to fall gently but steadily into the dusk. A star came out above the trees in the darkening East before them.”
“After a time, as the stars grew thicker and brighter, the feeling of disquiet left them, and they no longer listened for the sound of hoofs.”
“It showed grey and pale, a line of fading light through the wood. Above it the stars were thick in the dim sky, but there was no moon.”
“But at that moment there came a sound like mingled song and laughter. Clear voices rose and fell in the starlit air.”
“They passed slowly, and the hobbits could see the starlight glimmering on their hair and in their eyes. They bore no lights, yet as they walked a shimmer, like the light of the moon above the rim of the hills before it rises, seemed to fall about their feet.”
More!
They thought of the slanting light of evening glittering on the Brandywine River, and the windows of Bucklebury beginning to gleam with hundreds of lights.
White mists began to rise and curl on the surface of the river and stray about the roots of the trees upon its borders. Out of the very ground at their feet a shadowy steam arose and mingled with the swiftly falling dusk.
They stepped out from the Forest, and found a wide sweep of grass welling up before them. The river, now small and swift, was leaping merrily down to meet them, glinting here and there in the light of the stars, which were already shining in the sky.
Then another clear voice, as young and as ancient as Spring, like the song of a glad water flowing down into the night from a bright morning in the hills, came falling like silver to meet them…
It was not called the Old Forest without reason, for it was indeed ancient, a survivor of vast forgotten woods; and in it there lived yet, ageing no quicker than the hills, the fathers of the fathers of trees, remembering times when they were lords.
But either in his dreams or out of them, he could not tell which, Frodo heard a sweet singing running in his mind: a song that seemed to come like a pale light behind a grey rain-curtain, and growing stronger to turn the veil all to glass and silver, until at last it was rolled back, and a far green country opened before him under a swift sunrise.

I was a security guard at a major art museum
Over the course of my time there: -A woman came in with a skirt made of neckties. Just. Neckties, all strung together to make a skirt. She had leggings on underneath, thank god. -Been asked for the Mona Lisa -Been asked for the Sistine Chapel -Been asked where the dinosaurs are -Been asked where the animals are -Been asked for “The Bitch With The Pitcher” (Vermeer’s “Woman with a Water Pitcher,” by the way)
-Been asked for “The Girl With The Pearl Earring”
-Been asked for the Mona Lisa
-Got bored and learned the name of every single one of the Buddhas
-Got bored and learned the name of five Chinese dynasties (long day in Asian Art)
-Chilled in the Buddha room
-Watched someone escorted out for trying to take a nude photo in the Arms and Armor section
-Been asked for the Michelangelo’s, then the Raphael’s, then the Leonardo’s, then the Donatello’s (they were naming ninja turtles) -Heard curator in Musical Instrument section play Night On Bald Mountain on giant historical pipe organ while laughing maniacally.
-Fielded a day when a filthy counterfit version of the museum program was disseminated among visitors, guiding them to the filthiest art in the museum – such as the painting of Cupid peeing on Venus
-guarded Cupid peeing on Venus
-Been asked for the Mona Lisa
-Been asked if I had seen the First Lady of Mexico (she had gone missing)
-Been asked for that one sculpture of Kronos that is featured in Percy Jackson WHICH DOESN’T EXIST GUYS (directed children to sculptures of Poseidon with trident instead, children were very happy)
-Witnessed two Secret Service Agents get into a swordfight with pieces of packing material.
-been asked by a very polite Fransiscan monk in full brown robes if he had found ‘One of us. He has gone missing.” -Found missing monk and returned him to the herd
-Coworker was asked for the Ark of the Convenant
-Same coworker was asked for the Baseball Hall of Fame
-stopped about 15,000 people from poking that one lion statue in the nuts -saw a woman in a banana suit with banana shoes take a picture in front of an Egyptian temple
-Been asked for the Mona Lisas (plural)
I’ve got more but this is what I remember for now.
Are you gay? Gay enough to get the power to continually turn back time just to find one reality where you can be with her? Enough to watch her die hundreds of times before she rewrites the fabric of reality? Are you gay enough to make her an omnipotent god?
I thought as much

Okay but the older gentleman giving his wife little suggestions and the executive lady literally giving the little girl hairpins out of her own bun so the girl can have a cute updo and the grandma who gave her a five-section braid and the teenagers who didn't really have experience but they couldn't not help and everyone warning her to be careful about strangers and making sure she's safe and has someone at home who knows where she is and oh god I'm crying

I have hired this hyena to look at you.
still so mean to her even though she works so hard 😔
Sometimes I wonder if native English speakers appreciate how much more comfortable the internet is for them than for the rest of the world
Like, you can go on tumblr and simply read stuff in your mother tongue? Amazing. Go on youtube and you don’t have to replay some sentences ten times to try to understand what they’re saying? Incredible. Look for practically anything on google and know that there will be a fuckton of results that you can read without having to spend half the time looking up words in a dictionary? Fascinating. Make a post or send an ask without panicking that you’ll make a silly mistake or that they won’t understand what you meant? Unbelievable.
lol this is still the most relatable gif ever:
*Italian
I quote this GIF in half of my conversations. (Also not only smart but fun. I’m fucking funny in italian.)
I relate to this hard. In my native language it’s so much easier to express myself which, in turn, results in me sounding a lot more eloquent and (emotionally) intelligent. I constantly feel frustrated by my failure to truly convey my thoughts and ideas in English.
👆👆 I feel like I don’t know more than 17 words in english most of the time. 17 words that I put randomly together and hope for the best without really knowing what I’m doing.
I barely talk to people here even wanting to do that often because I’m always afraid of making a fool of myself by doing it and saying something wrong.
TO ALL NON-NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS WHO FOLLOW ME, please know that you’ll never, ever be judged negatively for your language skills if you communicate with me. You’re doing far, far better in my first tongue than I can in yours, and I respect the hell out of that effort. I see you and I appreciate you.
Same here!
Same, same, same. My girlfriend can write circles around me in two different languages and manage in several others, while I stumble through bits and pieces of Italian. Nobody expects perfect fluency - and if they do, they aren’t worth bothering with in any language.
In bocca al lupo to most of us native English speakers if we ever find ourselves somewhere outside our language comfort zone!
