Honestly my most millennial playlist

i need to watch it again by myself because it was so overwhelming the first time i don't even know if i can bring myself to say anything concrete (what else is new). i think it's interesting that jane continues to make movies that people can read complete opposing lessons into (usually based on their own relationships with screen/image/creation/repression) and i can usually see exactly where everyone is coming from.

for ME i was kind of a devastating exploration of being content with being a closed-off puzzle box even to yourself, and the drive we have to grasp and gasp for intimacy within the well constructed rituals of our selfhood. whether it was a hopeful ending or a dark ending or an entreaty to lay down the video tapes or an advertisement for staying in those fictional worlds... that feels like it's up to the viewer. mostly i was sweating profusely over the idea of gillian anderson forcing me to finally orgasm and admiring hannah's dumptruck ass.

also so very much about the labyrinth you walk through as a queer filmmaker and the drive that sustains you.
