This alcohol addled brain.

I used thick foam to carve the hat, then somehow managed to create a cover with fabric which was almost impossible and I was very tempted to give up and go home. Only I was already home.

I used eva foam for the mask, ear pieces and neck thingy, hot glued them and painted it all gold (with some technical issues including remaking everything 1-3 times).

The neck thing was too short initially so I redid it, but I didn't realise I'd made it too long the 2nd time around until literally 5 minutes before leaving. So I had to ruin it and cut it and that's why it looks so shit 😭

The contact lenses were a great touch, but they limited my field of vision which meant I was bumping into even more stuff than normal. The hat got stuck everywhere. EVERYWHERE. I'm glad I did not make it as wide as Mayuri. Although ngl it was FUN to hit people in the face hehehehe

I only had a couple original frames to use as reference and the mask can look different depending on which one you look at. So I went with this design where the chin piece is separate so I could glue (with like, sfx glue ofc) it to my skin and still be able to move my jaw normally.

Having learnt from prev mistakes, I went with alcohol activated makeup this time.

Expensive but so worth it as it didn’t smudge once dried, nor while queuing in the rain, sweat, etc.

Just this tiny amount of both black and white was enough, and I still have enough left for 1-2 more applications.

The black worked really well, the white needed about 5 coats to look decent and it was still streaky(? is that the right spelling?) in some areas, but all in all good.

All pics were taken after the con, so as you can see the makeup held up perfectly after hours!

The haori was a normal kimono that I trimmed and shaped, then added the orange details... this is what took the longest as I kept making mistakes and having to redo the whole thing. It took SO LONG. I cried at times. The stuffing was key to make it look as fluffy as it does in the manga although I couldn't make the neck bit stand up 🥲

I wasn't planning on taking his sword with me as he doesn't wear it on his obi in this arc (apparently?) But I already had an Ashisogi Jizo I made for Halloween so I made a last minute decision and brought it with me.

It's a regular toy katana wrapped with vetwrap to make it look like the scabbard is made of fabric. The hook I made out of carboard and wire, and the weird thing wrapped around the hilt is paper, more vetwrap and toothpicks as the spikes!
