Then came the day Mayuri whirled into his personal lab, fuming, flinging the clipboard he'd been holding in his twitching fingers. Lips curled into a snarl as he strode across the floor, coat flying behind him.
GiGi looked up from the copy of the latest edition of the Seireitei Communication he'd been reading. Took in Mayuri's glinting eyes and flaring nostrils. He didn't ask. Didn't need to know. But something about seeing Mayuri this upset tugged his heart, made his chest tighten. Something in him wanted to ease the upset. Calm whatever storm was boiling over.
GiGi stood up, abandoned his magazine, and approached his master. Cautious but unphased. Watching.
When he was close, meeting Mayuri between the door and his computer terminal, he stopped right in front of him. Sea blue eyes meeting molten gold. Gentle hands meeting clenching fists.
"What do you think you're doing, getting in my way at a time like this?" Mayuri hissed. "I have work to do, mistakes to-"
Mayuri didn't have the chance to finish his sentence. Holding his masters hands in his own, GiGi rose up on his tiptoes and kissed him square on the mouth. Soft. Sweet.
When he eased back and looked up, Mayuri appeared flabbergasted. Eyes flickering anywhere but GiGi's face, calculating, as if trying to catch up to what had just happened. Breaths slowing. Clenched hands relaxing. After a long moment, he met his pets eyes. Molten gold, cooling under a gaze like ocean tides.
Neither of them spoke.
The fire had been put out.
Mayuri grabbed his boys hand, lead him the rest of the way to the massive computer. Sat and pulled him down into his lap.
