Véhémence - Assiégé pour l'éternité

Medieval Black Metal from France

Véhémence have really given it their all, and “Assiégé pour l'Eternité” is far more than just old wine in new bottles. The album has been completely re-recorded, and the line-up has expanded since their debut. Furthermore, additional folk instruments have been added, the album’s mix has been refined, and the whole thing has been made somewhat more accessible. Highly melodic, dramatic, emotional, and despite the use of folk elements, there is no trace of paganism or any watering down of the underlying structure. At four and a half minutes, “De Célestes Cavalcades” serves as an appetiser, after which the album really gets down to business with tracks running well over eight minutes. And time flies by... In the more folk-oriented passages, the early Empyrium comes to the fore, or the metallic early days of Stille Volk; at times it also leans towards a slightly different kind of 90s French black metal, à la Eros Necropsique. However, one can also detect echoes of the French-Canadian “Métal Noir Québécois”.
