wei wuxian's core trait is that he believes that he is right. always. even when his peers and superiors tell him otherwise, even when he is up against generations of teachings, even when the entire world declares war on him he believes unshakingly that he is right and that he is doing the right thing
and that's why i can never everrrrrr vibe with interpretations of his character that have him regret helping the wens. bc he wouldn't!! not ever!!!! he had so many opportunities to turn back and he took none of them because he was so steady in his convictions!!! he would never back down from that even in death. and sure he could have some regret for the things that his decisions led to that he might not have seen coming but having him take back the choices themselves?? absolutely not. especially if those choices meant a-yuan survived. he would never say he regrets that and i would HOPE nobody would ask him to
this is one of my fav traits of his both because i find it admirable and because it my leads to him damaging so many of his personal relationships in service of his larger moral beliefs. and i feel like most people wouldn't be able to do that, in fact many narratives like to give a character strong moral convictions that then waver when the character is forced to choose between their loved ones and their beliefs.
but wwx does the opposite and he is able to do that Because he believes he is more right than everyone else, that he sees more that he knows more that he alone is strong enough to make the right choices and survive them. and this is how he's able to justify the core transfer. jc might hate him forever if he found out, but at least wwx was right, at least his experimental procedure worked, at least he did the right thing. he made the choice for jc bc in his head jc wouldn't have been strong enough to make it for himself, jc wouldve chosen wwx over having a core and wwx couldn't let him do that so he took the choice away.
idk i just love how messy it is like wwx is such a fun blend of ego and selflessness and self centeredness and kindness and control issues and self sacrificing tendencies and invincibility he rlly is the character of all time
