imagine there was a man in the story who went around giving speeches about the importance of the lottery as a tradition. He said the casualties were unfortunate, but also an inevitable price of freedom. Imagine he treated those who sought to end the senseless cycle of violence with condescension and derision, calling them idiotic, naïve, and diseased.

yet when that man was selected for the lottery and stoned to death, everyone mourned him and said how unfair it was that a bright young family man should die so soon. And when people pointed out that this man was killed by a system he adamantly defended and worked to perpetuate, they lost their jobs and were shunned from the community as insensitive and monstrous.

there's almost no other cause in which anyone can spend a few minutes fucking around on your instagram and decide to get you deported. even a literal white nationalist in the united states of america would have to put in a lot more effort snitching on their community to get an illegal immigrant deported by ICE because they've currently deprioritized drug and criminal offenses to prioritize pro-palestine arrests. it's kind of crazy if you think about it. like you could be talking shit about america in america and you'd be fine, but if you talk shit about israel in america you will get disappeared by masked agents in broad daylight

My main beef with the series, and which no one ever seems to talk about is how poorly written the show is??? Like the creators tried to make it more mature by introducing politics but have neither the interest nor skill in actually fleshing it out beyond fight this big bad. Season 1 is actually the worst because what exactly were equalizers demanding and why did the group just disappear after Amon was exposed.

reddit deleted luigi's account, which was completely innocuous and consisted mostly of him giving out advice in health subreddits. they're also deleting any post that includes his alleged manifesto and banning users for sharing it.

luigi yelled that this was "an insult to the intelligence of the american people" while he was being dragged by police and news pundits are framing it as a deranged and violent outburst. news media are picking apart details of his life to paint him as a cold-blooded and mentally ill individual. even something as innocent as playing "among us" with friends is being framed as some insidious look into an assassin's disturbed psyche, ffs.

news media are also capitalizing on luigi's supposed "bizarre and impossible to understand" politics as an obvious way to paint him as a scary individual when the guy is... a centrist, at most. whose views are similar to those of your average college-educated white guy.

multiple news media also keep harping on about how luigi comes from a rich family. an obvious attempt to break the class solidarity that's been formed around this case by continuously trying to tell us "oh he's not like you guys" while ignoring the now pretty well-documented accounts of his multiple health struggles throughout the years.
