the situation with harry potter is kind of unprecedented in some ways imo because it is maybe the largest media franchise in history to be created & owned by a single person who still has direct creative control over it. who is also a billionaire with significant cultural/political influence. like the usual "no ethical consumption under capitalism" type excuses shatter on impact when the bigoted author in question is logging onto twitter every day saying explicitly that when you buy the tim hortons ravenclaw donut she is using your donut money to fund the genocide of trans people. like with big franchises usually there's at least a little more diffusion of responsibility than this

If you really care about preventing government tyranny, your #1 priority must be making sure criminals have rights.

And that's not a joke or an exaggeration.

If criminals don't have rights, then all the government has to do is find some excuse to label people as criminals, and those people will no longer have rights. It's what literally every tyrannical government in all of history has done.

If you believe that people who break the law should forfeit their rights, you're literally as pro-tyranny as a person can get.

i like remy and all but i would set him on fire, shoot him twenty times in the chest, run him over with my car and then reverse and run him over again if it meant keeping kurt safe.

i think some of you guys are very obviously concern trolling over justice smith’s casting as harris because the argument “a man in his position would suffer racism” being used against his casting but like a man in scott’s position would experience extreme homophobia and potential violence but we’re allowed to suspend our disbelief for the sake of queer joy being depicted on screen, but when that queer joy includes a black man it’s suddenly not realistic?

“oh justice was set up to fail with this casting. they shouldn’t have cast a black man in this role because there’ll be backlash.” or you guys could not be racist about it? lol? we’re in a time where any minority casting gets severe backlash (hello odyssey) so what? is the solution to just not cast minorities in genre films? in romcoms? in superhero media? you’re letting twitter outrage dictate casting in movies and tv now?
