spent MONTHS looking for this stupid tumblr post bcuz i constantly want to reference it and it wouldn't come up no matter what i searched despite it being (what i thought) was a popular well-known tumblr post only to find that the original blog turned off reblogs and deactivated and that it only got 12k notes total. but im posting it anyway to preserve its legacy

Einstein would be so upset that you proved his theory in one moment, cause in his day it took fuckin months to setup an eclipse pic to prove relativity n you did it by accident, in ur living room. congrats.
this is actually called the rolling shutter effect!! the camera captures images in a rolling fashion, from the top to the bottom. so objects that are moving fast like a car, or a airplane propeller, or frames on a tv being reflected will always look distorted. the closer to the top of the image you get, the further back in time it represents, just by a few split seconds. all this means is that the frame reflected on the table was probably the one right after the one on the tv, and it changed before the camera’s rolling shutter had time to get to it.

Rocky not understanding the concept of nightmares.
Grace has nightmares every night, including the first time he sleeps in the tunnel under Rocky's watch. He tosses and turns in his sleep, he mumbles, he cries, he begs; his brain doesn't remember his last conscious moments on Earth, but his body does.
He doesn't remember having the nightmares. He knows he wakes up feeling like shit, but that's about it; not a big deal.
When in the morning Rocky asks him why he is so noisy, he assumes that he was snoring. "It's a human thing, we can be pretty loud when we sleep. It's not very polite to point it out."
Rocky accepts it; why wouldn't he? It's a human thing!
(Later, when Rocky gets aquainted with human noises enough to recognise Grace's sounds as distress, he concludes that sleeping must suck for humans. This explains why Grace always tries to stay up as long as possible and needs to be reminded to go to bed, actually. Such weird species; they really should watch each other better if this is the norm for them!)
...It's only when they start their journey to Erid, when Grace feels safe again sleeping under Rocky's watch after those couple of months of separation, when he is more or less at peace with the memories and the past, when he is filled with joy of saving Erid and Earth and his friend, when he starts to believe that he'll actually get to live — it's only then Rocky sees him sleeping peacefully through the whole night for the first time.
Rocky freaks out.
He waits for Grace to enter the loud stage of his sleep, and Grace just. doesn't. He doesn't move, his breathing is slow, his heartbeat is steady. Looks peaceful, but this is Wrong, right?? Is he dying? He is dying, isn't he???
He ends up waking Grace up, utterly terrified. After a lot of confusion Grace realizes the misunderstanding and feels Bad about it.
Rocky feels worse. He was supposed to watch over him! He was supposed to protect! And he missed this!! At least let Rocky know how to prevent this in the future. You slept peacefully just now, what changed. Rocky fix and make sure the nightmares don't happen again. Explain Right Now.
Grace, who fell asleep on the floor curled up around Rocky's ball and is not yet ready to admit out loud that the peacefulness was probably due to the close proximity to someone who cares about him: "uhhhh your ball is pretty warm? humans tend to have more nightmares when we are cold, so it's probably that".
He is never allowed to sleep on his own ever again.

Eridians can't see*, smell, and hopefully can't taste. Does this mean they only have 2 fucking senses?
I thought Grace would already be freaky with just the ability to perceive light alone but it would probably be way worse when it gets learnt that he has three additional senses over Rocky and all other Eridians for that matter.
Like,
Rocky: Constructing the biodome will be easy. The only thing we'll struggle on is sight since humans have 3 senses instead of 2.
Grace: 5.
Rocky: what?
Grace: we have 5 senses. debatably 6, though its unproven. sometimes people even think we have a 7th.
Humans are pretty prone to mimicking noises. like even subconsciously. sometimes we even unintentionally pick up entirely different accents. and you literally can't tell me you've never meowed or woofed or chirped back at a cat/dog/bird at least once in your life (unless you are physically/audibly unable to do so).
So Grace 1000% starts picking up and mimicking Eridian noises.
One day, Rocky will be working on something, only to freeze as he hears Grace behind him suddenly exclaim in fluent Eridian "SHIT!"
Turns out Eridian swear words are usually expressed in the same decibel that humans can whistle in.
