These remind me of this drawing by Franz Kafka from the 1900s. We've been feeling this way for a long time.

People on Tumblr love sharing information about themselves no matter how asinine it is. And I'm the same way. Everybody tell me what the last thing you drank was.

i’ll never get over the fact that so many grown ass adults DO seem to show up to public places just to cough like toddlers and yet I’M weird/impolite/The Bad Guy for looking at them like this every single time i have to witness it

Ok deeply irrelevant question I know but as someone who lives in NYC, what is the deal with sweet tea? Like yeah I get it, it’s good, but it seems like there’s this huge cultural zeitgeist behind it that I am just struggling to understand. Is it just for summer? Are there rules about the kind of tea you make with it? Can lemons be present? I have so many questions and so few answers.
sweet tea is always relevant to me, my friend
you are correct that it is a deeply cultural thing! if you come to the south and ask for "tea" you will receive a glass of iced tea, and it will be sweetened unless you ask for "unsweet tea." you have to specify "hot tea" if you want what most people imagine when they picture tea. it's kind of like how in europe, asking for "water" gives you sparkling water, and you have to ask for flat water (or still water, arrow lived in germany for a bit) if you want non-sparkling.
sweet tea is black tea, typically sweetened with sugar, though not always. for example, i personally prefer it with splenda, because sugar-sweetened tea is a bit much for my autistic sensibility, and while i like it sweet and find unsweetened tea disgusting, sugar-sweetened tea is a bit syrupy to me. (except for milos. god bless milos.) generally speaking, it does not default with lemon, but it is very common to drink it with a slice of lemon, and it's delicious. there's also a variation that is half tea, half lemonade, called an arnold palmer. it's incredibly refreshing, particularly in the summer.
i'm not a tea history scholar (lol), but i suspect it became popularized because of the hot, humid summers here and the access to tea leaves and sugar, as well as the preparation method. before the time hvacs were common in residential homes, people sought ways to cool off. iced beverages are a good way to do this, and especially with the medium income generally being lower and tea being a fairly cheap commodity due to both tea and sugar as local cash crops (thus incentivizing plantations to keep some for themselves and selling the excess), it became ubiquitous. on top of that, proper tea is made by boiling the water briefly with the tea leaves, which i would guess made the water safer to drink. plus it's just delicious!
as for myself, i drink it all year round, and it's acceptable for any meal. i am in fact sitting next to a giant glass right now, hahaha. if you would like to try it yourself, i am militant about my tea being prepared from lipton leaves at home. I take about 5 of the small bags and boil. i don't know. maybe two quarts of it at a time? (i put water in the pot until my ancestors tell me to stop.) right as it comes to a boil, i turn off the heat, then put it in a gallon pitcher with 50 splenda packets. (the s in sweet is capitalized.) i'm not exactly sure how much sugar that equates to, as it's been a loooong time since i've made it with sugar. a few cups maybe? but then you add water until it fills to the gallon, and chill in a fridge. if you're curious to try it, which i highly suggest, my favorite store bought brand is milos, if you can find it.

Kiwifarms still exist? I thought it was finally shut down last year or something?
💀 You're living in an interesting space online, Anon. No, kiwifarms still determinedly exists. There are plenty of (open and crypto) users on tumblr and plenty of people still collecting and spreading information stored (and found!) through kiwifarms.
(Thinking specifically of when that eugenics game came out a bit ago and people were, yet again, rehashing their hatred of a trans woman whose name they only knew because of how viciously tortured and harassed she was, 24/7, for literal years, if I'm remembering correctly.)
So no. If only. Some companies have dropped them but fascist companies haven't gotten enough pushback in wide numbers to feel threatened enough to.
And they fucking benefit too much from having hoards of people of all political ideologies willing to stalk, harass and assault minorities (especially racialized/trans/women/folks), so. Yeah. I wish.
Actually!!! While we're learning that an extremely dangerous website that targets minorities (especially transfems) for harassment and doxxing is still alive and well;
Let me remind y'all that we have an infamous, proud user of kiwifarmers on tumblr who I've seen many others reblog from, try to send me information from stalking campaigns she's involved in and side with this user in her relentless (sexual) harassment, lying and doxxing of transfems all over the website.
Britt-Galaxy-Brains, who runs in all kinds of fascist circles (including within the trans community) and loves to promote TERF and generally bigoted ideology in whatever cracks she can find.
Her primary focus has been transmasc circles where "misandry is real and trans/women are oppressing us" is a huge theme and she gets loads of willing stalkers, harassers, and folks willing to share documents and lies about random transfems.
(Want proof? Check out her blog. She's open and proud about it.)
I don't think I've ever asked for shit here but if you have a moment, take it and block and report this account (and anyone closely related, as well as her side-blog cybermagusnex) for whatever the fuck you can.
I'd really appreciate some help making tumblr a little more tolerable for transfems in particular. 👍🏼

It's actually so fucking weird that your identity is absolute these days. like, it's been normalized to the point we don't think of it much, but until a hundred years ago, hell even less, you could just kinda. go somewhere else, and be a new person. and that's not a thing anymore.
Yk this is fully untrue right? You can fully still do this if you're willing to change and let go of everything at literally any moment you want
since a good few people now have said this i want to be clear: you can move to a new town still and change socially, but like. the government still knows who you are. so do tons of corporations. your identity follows you.
13 hours later and the parade of stupid comments like this has not stopped =_=
a guy named Rusty cage did a video on how it's impossible to leave your identity behind unless you become a eunuch
fuck hermit I meant hermit
Identity is stored in the balls.
do you ever find something that is so funny and you want to share it with everyone but it also requires 18 layers of context spanning things like. 90s anime. aviation history. europop. canada. in order to even remotely understand why it is so funny
in the late 90s there was an anime called initial d which was all about street racing and drifting. naturally every single drift was played for great drama and excitement.
in 1999, an italian named giancarlo pasquini released a europop song under the alias dave rogers called Deja Vu. this song was picked up as the theme song for the above anime. it in turn became a meme, a shorthand for drifting and Cool Moves as a concept.
in 1983, air canada flight 143, a full sized 767, ran out of fuel halfway to edmonton, alberta. this is not something you want to have happen to a huge airplane. the flight chose to try and make an emergency landing at a nearby decomissioned airforce base (as they were falling fast and could not make it to a proper airport), where they ran into a second problem: they were falling out of the sky at 500 feet per mile, but reached gimli (the base in question) while still too high to safely land. normally a plane would just do a big loop-de-loop to lose altitude, but they had maybe three minutes of airtime left before they hit the ground: not enough time to make any kind of circle. the pilot, therefore, decided to execute a side slip to lose speed and altitude. this is Not a move you want to do with a massive 767, because airplanes are not built for that and if you screw it up that plane is hitting the ground at a high speed at a weird angle and breaking into a million pieces. nevertheless, the captain tried it... and succeeded. the plane landed perfectly, and there were no major injuries! (a couple of people did get minor injuries when evacuating the plane after.) he did it so well, in fact, that the plane was refueled, flown out of gimli a couple days later, and continued to fly for another 20 years with the nickname "Gimli Glider."
what is a side-slip, you ask?
it's drifting.
the guy goddamn drifted his 767.
in 2008, the tv show Mayday: Air Disaster featured the gimli glider with full reenactments as an episode on season five of their show.
and so, in conclusion, the thing i have been giggling to myself about all weekend:
