Summary: Jax survived abstraction. She eventually learns people come into our lives for specific chapters, and sometimes you just have to sit with the uncertainty of what comes next and keep living. ⊹ ࣪ ˖
Warnings: Extremely, super duper cringe. Dude you have no idea ノ She/her pronouns for Jax ノdividers by thes0nnysystem ⊹ ࣪ ˖
“You weren't going to try to take care of him all by yourself, were you?”
There stood Kinger, along with the others. Relief showed plainly across their faces as they looked down at the two reckless figures lying amid the jagged black scars prickling across their bodies.
“I’m glad we weren't too late.” Ragatha.
The last thing Jax saw before a near-death experience was what seemed like a kaleidoscope of light— something many would probably describe as a drug trip.
Memories cut through the pain; all she could do was cling to survival beyond the fleeting flashes.
Everything she had wasted.
Everything she had loved.
Eugh.
Her body still throbbed with every movement.
She couldn't be seen like this.
No, no, no—
Pomni's arms tightened around her from behind.
“Jax.”
Pomni's arms tightened around her from behind.
“I— Please. Just stay with me right now.”
Go away.
Go away.
“I thought you were going to die.”
“Don’t.”
“And i can’t lose you again.”
“Stop It.”
Jax stared at the floor.
“Jax—”
“I said stop.”
Her hands curled into fists.
“It’s alright.”
“No.”
A pause.
“It's not.”
Pomni’s breath caught.
Jax looked back at her.
Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes moist.
And then, she laughed.
What a hypocrite.
“God,” she muttered. “i’m just glad you're alive.”
She sighs.
“Me too.”
A month had passed since Jax came back from her so-called death.
Nobody seemed quite sure what to do with her anymore.
She preferred it that way.
At least mistakes were easier to understand than sympathy.
Healing wasn't a straight line whereas survival was barely a option at all. And so, the least she could was cling to her own mistakes.
Jax ran her fingers through the cold glass of the aquarium.
Where Ribbit’s abstracted form.. Probally stood?
And well, thats the thing.
She couldn't even tell them apart from eachother.
“I killed her,” or so she thought.
The dim, dark-blue light of the aquarium felt like looking at her own grave.
Sinking into a cruel irony, considering who she was supposed to be—and whoever she'd allowed herself to become.
It was almost like even outside water, her throat was tightening.
She hiccups, a futile attempt to gasp for air.
Or perhaps just an attempt to plunge even deeper into her own tears.
It had been a while since Jax had cried like this, though it seems to be getting way more common ever since she— you know, almost abstracted.
Reality was too harsh on the surface; even now, all the derogatory guilt swept into once and..
Well, eventually, it had to happen sometime.
She lets herself collapse to the ground, knees drawn to her chest, arms wrapped tight around them to hold onto the last shred of dignity she had left.
“Hey,” a familiar voice hesitated, echoing through the aisles between the tanks.
Pomni.
“Hey.”
“Can’t sleep again, i assume?”
“Yeah.”
Pomni sat next to her, avoiding eye contact.
“How long have you been standing there?”
“Longer than you’d like.”
“I mean, you’ve already seen it all already.”
She rasps, wiping at her tears.
“Thats okay.”
“Mhm.”
“Well, i’d rather not have known this way. But i understand why you couldn't have reached out sooner.”
“So then it's not.”
Pomni chuckles.
“You know what i mean.”
“We’ve already had this conversation before, didn't we?”
“Yeah.”
“Feels like a lot.”
“I just—”
Pomni hesitated, caught somewhere between a laugh and a sob.
“It's true,” she said quietly. “I thought you were dead.”
Jax said nothing.
“I couldn't help but blame myself for that.”
“You’re not responsible for me.”
“I’m not a babysitter.”
“That’s exactly what I mean—”
“No!”
She snapped.
“The guilt would follow me like a dog. I wouldn't be able to live with it.”
“Oh, so you're only doing that out of guilt?”
“Of course not. I— I do that because I love you.”
She hiccuped.
“I can't fix you, Jax. I can't save you from whatever guilt you've been drowning in.”
Notes: Sneak peek, except i’m probally not finishing this.
This was supposed to be just a fun writing exercise with cute little colorful characters, but now i’m up a 1am on a school night with no chance of falling asleep again.
I apologize for any grammar errors. However, as mentioned many times before, english is not my first leanguage (and i’m so so so tireeed).
I need everyone to look at me like i’m the coolest person in the room, but at the same time i hate being perceived because what if they don’t appreciate my coolness

The new episode puts forward a new theory to me: just as Morty serves as a universal human shield for every Rick in existence — a direct effect of their likely incompatible intelligence gap — he also seems doomed to accept his cruelest purpose. By nature, Morty is a combat tool. A magnet for inevitable doom. Someone who, no matter how stable a new dimension may seem at first, ends up dragging people (and himself) into the worst possible outcome.
The episode makes it clear that the family from that dimension was rotten from the inside. So dysfunctional that they sacrificed their own son on the altar of cruel expectations. But that’s exactly the point: the universe rarely acts with an axe. It acts with roots. It finds natural ways to collapse, because, regardless of the situation, Morty will always be there. In the wrong place, at the wrong time, making the wrong decision.
And maybe that’s why the final scene carries such a fucked-up sense of comfort. When Morty finally gives in to his own reality, there’s almost a sigh of relief. Despite all the guilt, despite all the weight, he is exactly where he’s supposed to be. And there’s nothing left to do but preserve what’s left of him: a glimpse of empathy. Selective, cracked, but still burning.
The most ordinary human, the one who seems weak, mediocre, with nothing remarkable about him, is the one Starlight refused to build a fake romantic narrative around, the one Butcher is capable of setting aside his obsession for, the one Victoria Neuman believed in and the one A-Train ultimately gave his life for. Hughie Campbell has everything Homelander has always wanted: the respect and genuine affection of others. Without being a supe, a god, or anything extraordinary. And he can’t stand it, because everything he’s tried to gain through force and fear, Hughie simply has through his humanity. Everything Homelander despises is precisely what allows Hughie to have what he most wants. And he cannot understand how all those people he believes should worship a god would instead choose a simple mortal.

It's genuinely interesting to me how this scene manages to portray the communication struggles that can exist within the queer community through such an uncomfortable yet natural interaction. The two characters approach the situation from completely different positions of perceived authority, each clinging to a carefully constructed façade of control over their own identity.
For perhaps the first time, Jax is forced to question her own masculinity. She's publicly humiliated in front of the very people she's hurt just as badly in the past, desperately trying to avoid that question—to avoid the possibility that her discomfort isn't limited to this single moment, but has always been there. The fear that people never saw a girl, but rather someone performing a version of masculinity as a shield against vulnerability.
In a way, that's what makes the scene so fascinating: two canonically genderqueer characters unintentionally mirroring one another, both hurting each other—and themselves—in the process of trying to preserve that sense of control. From Zooble's perspective, it was probably just an innocent joke at first, a way of getting back at Jax for all the cruelty she'd inflicted on them before.
Of course, that doesn't make it right. Neither of them is entirely in the right, and that's exactly what makes their dynamic so compelling.
What are Jax's true thoughts on Gangle? Like i know she likes to bully Gangle in particular but we see moments where it seems like she actually thinks that they're friends almost (like when she says "what? She likes it when i'm mean to her") and ofc the scene with her in Jax's mind
I think Jax takes his complex feelings on his mother out on Gangle, but tries to justify it to himself through delusions that it's not ACTUALLY abuse, even though it is. Most abusers don't ever think of themselves as abusers, and tend to make up a reality in which their abuse is either not that big a deal or it's somehow warranted.
And from Gangle's perspective, she was at a very vulnerable place when she joined, and Jax took control of their relationship. She formed a bit of a codependent bond with him even though it just mostly caused her pain. Losing a friend who frequently hurts you can fill you with complex feelings that are really hard to make sense out of.

Your recent post about Ribbit made me think more about Ribbit and Jax, and something that's been (so far) not super analyzed in the fandom (at least from what I've seen) is the role gender envy plays in who Jax is.
I wonder if part of the reason Jax was so cruel to Ribbit was like, not just because he/she loved her, but also because he/she wanted to be like Ribbit, and because both those things were too much authenticity to handle, Jax sorta felt like he/she had to destroy Ribbit in order to keep up the facade. Hence being so cruel to her.
Omg, you're so right—I think it's very important how this kind of vulnerability is portrayed from character to character and how it affects their relationships with one another.
It feels like this was the only way Jax knew how to suppress this image of herself beyond Ribbit's own struggles. Not only was this how she was taught to react when faced with feelings that were too much to handle, but it also stemmed from her need to maintain control over the situation. So, thanks for commenting on that!
