I will be sharing some films and documentaries this month. I am not Indigenous, but I live on stolen land. This month I will be focusing on the Indigenous groups in my country, as their voices are often forgotten or left out in pride celebrations. I suggest you do the same for your area! It's always a good time to learn something new. Happy Pride.
when i was 17 and in the psych ward i was put on inappropriate medication and lied to about its effects. i didn't find out what they'd actually put me on until i got out and was able to look up the name of the drug. they knew i was going to argue against it if i knew the real effects, and they decided they knew more than me, so they simply outright lied to my face because they had the power to do so and didn't care about bothering to convince a lesser being that they were right (they were not right).

As a sex worker, I've never been helped or supported by a radical feminist.
I've come across lots of radical feminists in my years of selling sex, starting when I was a homeless teenager. Other sex workers have often helped me, sending me money when I was desperate and offering me support to stop selling sex when I was traumatized. SWERFs have called me worse things than my clients have, all whilst arguing that I'm privileged because I argue for the decriminalization of prostitution which would make all sex workers safer, despite the fact I started selling sex underage and out of desperation because I had no other options.
Many radical feminists like to call sex worker activists the "pimp lobby" and imply they're encouraging sex work, but other sex worker activists have been the only people I've seen actually supporting people to stop selling sex.
SWERFs don't want to put their money where their mouth is, which is why they're always claiming inflated numbers of sex workers are victims of trafficking being forced by a third party. If they admitted the truth, which is that most people sell sex because of financial desperation... well, then it'd be very obvious how little they're really doing to help.
when you say that decriminalization wouldâve made you safer when you were a minor, are you saying that you want to include child prostitution in your legalization of it?
I do not want "legalization" of sex work at all, and you noted what I actually want (decriminalization) in the first part of your sentence. When sex work is decriminalized that changes nothing about the age of consent. It remains illegal for an adult to engage in sexual activity with anyone under the age of consent, paid or not.
The way decriminalization would've made me safer when I was underage was that I wouldn't have gotten into trouble myself for selling sex. With full decriminalization, I wouldn't have been at risk of losing my bank account or getting into legal trouble for helping other teen sex workers I knew. I wouldn't have risked having my earnings confiscated as proceeds of crime, which makes us have to sell more sex!
Rape is already illegal. The age of consent already exists. Full decriminalization of sex work does not change this!
and you think radical feminists want the prostitutes themselves to be criminalized?
Note that none of the issues I raised stem from selling sex itself being illegal, because I sell sex in the UK where it isn't illegal. The laws which do this harm are supposedly meant to target third parties, but this is the impact had on actual sex workers. All of these problems exist under the Nordic Model, radical feminists favourite legal model for prostitution. Except the Nordic Model is even worse because it also criminalizes clients and thereby puts sex workers at higher risk since we can't screen our clients and as the client pool shrinks we have to offer riskier services to make enough money to survive.
Notice that you're proving my point about radical feminists not actually helping. All you've done here is condescend to me and accuse me of wanting to legalize child sexual abuse. No consideration at all for how poverty is the problem and no concern for me.
not to sound like a crazy sjw but parents putting little girls in frilly dresses/lavish clothes and telling them not to run, climb, play in dirt, etc lest they ruin their outfits or somebody look up their skirts is one of the most direct ways we as a society teach girls that they are only ornamental and cut their childhoods short
I think the solution to kids on the Internet is to have specific, kid friendly spaces on the Internet. Kids wouldn't come across "adult content" on YouTube if barbie dot com still had flash games and this is a hill I will die on.
Oh! Then I know the EXACT person you should be mad at! Michael O'Rielly! He's the one that gutted the Children's Programming Rules, which covered internet as well as television.
HELLO?
#so the death of the Saturday morning cartoon is THIS motherfuckers fault?????
Indeed it is! The FCC controls how much of broadcasting has to cater to children and that includes how educational that programming has to be, and exactly how much and in what way you are allowed to advertise to kids. That's why for the entire 90s and up to the early 00s, kids shows had shorter commercial breaks, and ads that talked about a website had to say "ask your parents before going online", and those websites had to be non-commercial--i.e. they could not be shops, and could not have any way you could spend money or were encouraged to spend money. That's why Barbie.com was flash games, and O'Rielly LIFTING that ban is why Barbie.com now takes you directly to a storefront instead.
If you're mad about Saturday Morning Cartoons, dark patterns in ads targeted at children, online protections for kids, or wondering why educational children's shows aren't as much of a thing as they used to be, get mad at the FCC and the person in charge of it who is gutting the Children's Brodcasting Rules (sometimes called the Kid Vid Rules), because those rules control all of that!
While O'Rielly is responsible for gutting the rules in 2019, he was replaced in 2020 by Nathan Simington as head of the FCC, and Simington resigned in June of this year. The post remains vacant as of the time of this writing (August 31, 2025).
And a side note: Things like KOSA and SCREEN and all those other censorship bills that use "think of the children" are not going to protect children at all; if you want to protect kids online, there is already a way to do that it's called the Kid Vid Rules and the FCC is the one that can update and change them to keep up with the times! It doesn't need a congress vote, it already got voted on in 1990!
Happy Pride, everyone. Remember to check your racism this pride month, being queer doesn't exempt you from being bigoted towards others.
Have a good time, as wel. đŤśđ˝
Loblaws and other major grocery stores have been overcharging customers for meat by weighing the product with packaging.
CBC has found that Loblaws and other major grocery stores have been overcharging customers for underweight meat. The report found overpriced fresh meat at seven Loblaw-owned or Sobeys-affiliated stores in the Toronto, Vancouver and Halifax areas. Last year, a similar investigation revealed that as many as 80 Loblaws stores in Western Canada â as well as Sobeys and Walmart locations in several provinces â had been weighing meat with packaging, increasing prices by 4% to 11%. Federal regulations state that posted net weights for packaged food, and subsequent pricing, canât factor in the packaging.

A heavily-resourced Hate Crimes Unit has engaged in surveillance, night raids, and âtrumped up chargesâ against the Palestinian solidarity m
Ahmad Islaih, a 26 year old elementary school teacher, was accused of participating in a demonstration that briefly halted traffic on Torontoâs Gardiner Expressway in November. The protest against Israelâs assault on Gaza had lasted for only five minutes. After waking up Ahmed, handcuffing him and charging him with âmischief,â eight police officers sat the family, still in their pajamas, at their dining room table. While they searched their home, the front door stayed open, despite freezing winter weather and the familyâs pleas to police to close it. [...] After the police left with Ahmadâs computers, electronics, and clothes, the family discovered his room âturned upside down.â Drawers had been emptied on the floor, his mattress was thrown off the bed, a vase was broken, and several boxes had been rifled through. âIt took us back to our life in the West Bank,â Suha said, âwhen Israeli soldiers raided our home.âÂ

People love natives in such a superficial way. People wanna stand with natives when weâre talking about the trees, and the land. People wanna stand with natives when we talk about philosophies of love and togetherness. But as soon as itâs time to talk about political side of being native. About dismantling a system built on the genocide of our people. About how we need a new system that isnât built upon capital gain and benefitting white bodies. About putting up a fight. About how the colonial state we reside in is a disgusting imperial plague on this land. Suddenly yâall donât wanna talk native.
"They spent hundreds of years trying to assimilate my ancestors, trying to create indians like me, who could blend in, but now they donât want me either. They canât make up their minds.
They want buckskin and face paint, drumming, songs in languages they canât understand recorded for them but with English subtitles, of course. They want educated, well spoken, but not too smart. Christian, well behaved, never question. They want to learn the history of the people, but not the ones that are here now, waving signs in their faces, asking them for clean drinking water, asking them why their women are going missing, asking them why their land is being ruined.
They want fantastical stories of Indians that used to roam this land. They want my culture behind glass in a museum.
But they donât want me." -Shelby Lisk
Newfoundland and Labrador's provincial government is declaring gender-based violence an epidemic.
Newfoundland and Labrador's provincial government is declaring gender-based violence an epidemic. Lela Evans, minister of women and gender equality, called it a "monumental" day. "Today is an emotional day for me," said Evans at a press conference Wednesday afternoon in front of MHAs, police and womenâs groups from across the province.
Evans announced a 12-member task force to deal with the problem, made up of government members and community advocates. The task force will produce a report in the fall, she said, and government will begin work before the task force finishes its work.

"While those working at private companies can at least earn a little money, they face possible punishment if they refuse, from being denied family visits to being sent to higher-security prisons, which are so dangerous that the federal government filed a lawsuit four years ago that remains pending [note: article is from 2024], calling the treatment of prisoners unconstitutional.
Though they make at least $7.25 an hour, the state siphons 40% off the top of all wages and also levies fees, including $5 a day for rides to their jobs and $15 a month for laundry.
Turning down work can jeopardize chances of early release in a state that last year granted parole to only 8% of eligible prisoners â an all-time low, and among the worst rates nationwide â though that number more than doubled this year after public outcry."
No state has a longer, more profit-driven history of contracting prisoners out to private companies than Alabama.
Canada's biggest labour body agreed to cut ties with its Israeli counterpart
The largest labour organization in Canada has committed to cutting ties with Israelâs trade federation, the Histadrut. A resolution passed at the constitutional convention of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) in Winnipeg earlier this month also calls on the Canadian government to support a two-way arms embargo, suspend the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement and condemn Israeli settlement expansion. Kevin MacKay, who attended the convention as a delegate from the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), told PressProgress that, when it came time for the vote, âWe had a lot of the biggest labour leaders in the hall lining up at the mic to either speak or show support for the resolution.â
