the arguments my grandma and stepdad were always having were fascinating, hell to live with, but like, a 1960s white feminist and a 1960s "i hate all politicians" black egalitarian who both grew up in dickens level poverty on the south side is truly a meeting of titans at your kitchen table.

my main issue with bernie has always been that he learned nothing from the 2016 run and in particular was completely incapable of appealing to & figuring out how to get black voters in swing states. now this is not to say that hillary or biden were any fucking better with black voters OR idpol in general - that "if you don't vote for me you aren't black" thing was a CRAZY thing to say and both of them basically looked latino voters in the eye and went "i don't need your vote" and then acted real surprised when latino voters did not in fact vote for them. but i think aoc is showing a lot of promise in this area, particularly bc the south carolina dems are being obnoxious as fuck right now, and when she was asked about clyburn her answer was basically "i think there's generational divides here" which is TRUE and people are AFRAID TO SAY IT but you don't HAVE to vote for someone just bc your parents approve of them. you don't HAVE to vote for biden just bc your grandma thinks he's the only real candidate. you can vote for the person you believe in. but she was also like "there's plenty of black voters in michigan and we should let them decide what's best for michigan" RIGHT. identity impacts your viewpoint but every black voter in michigan is not the same and handwaving over the large and diverse voting population of a state as diverse as michigan and being like "well they'll vote for who i want them to vote for" is so fucking arrogant. anyway aoc for president please fuck.
