The thing is that "said" is fine there's nothing wrong with using "said" but it CAN be overused and unfortunately the solution is not to use other verbs for speaking, the solution is to restructure your dialogue to avoid having the same sentence structure in every line, and come up with things for your characters to be doing while they speak, which is actually much more difficult.

i think ao3 should have a feature like an anonymous kudos but instead of kudos its "i jorked it to completion" and you can leave as many of these as you want and obviously authors would opt-in to this feature on a per-fic basis but like. i want the stats, you know.
