i spend an immense amount of time studying for pfr and somehow i still flunk the recits for this subject

hi! take this w a grain of salt bc ive only been going to school for a month. but here u go!

1. it involves a lot of reading. A LOT. and you have to absorb the concepts as you read them the first time bc, more often than not, you're not gonna have the time to go over them a second time for a more in-depth review. it would just be to jog your recall. don't worry too much tho! this is a skill you naturally develop especially throughout your college years since you would be reading a lot of difficult texts (i assume you'll be taking up an ab program since you have plans to pursue law?) of course, law school is 100x harder than college and you can never fully prepare for the workload, but building a stable foundation as early as now would definitely help you in the future.

2. you need to be great at thinking on your feet. this is something im struggling with at the moment bc of my social anxiety and fear of public speaking (ikr, what am i doing in law school lmao). i have always been the type to internally rehearse what i need to say a thousand times before i actually say it out loud. if you put me on the spot, no matter how impressive the idea is inside my head, it's all disorganized and incohesive the moment it comes out of my mouth. that being said, try to participate as much as you can in activities that expose you to public speaking and impromptu speeches like hosting school events, reporting, debate orgs, etc.

3. you don't have to be smart, but you definitely need to be studious. admittedly, people who are inherently intelligent will have an advantage over the others because they'll be able to understand concepts quicker (it is an edge bc believe me —there's never enough time when you're in law school). sure, it might be a little harder (i know it is for me); nevertheless, you'll survive even if you are not one of those people who are intellectually gifted. what you need is to be consistent in studying, because you absolutely won't last 4 years in law school if you don't put in the work. always come to class prepared. study all the topics assigned, or at least try to cover as many as you can bc you definitely can't bs your way out of a recit.

most of my study hours are allotted to reading cases bc i (almost) always read the full-text and make my own digests even tho we have a class digest pool

haven't posted in a while! so here's a quick recap of what happened in the last few months 🪷

• transitioned to on-site classes. it was exhausting yet fun at the same time bc i got to romanticize my last few weeks in college

• graduated last month! w latin honors 🎓🥉

• applied to only the top 2 law schools in the country (ateneo law and up law) and got accepted into both!

• im now an incoming 1L and my classes start in september :)

so many ups and downs but i'm just so happy to close another chapter of my life and open a new one. it's surreal to think that i started this blog when I was in Grade 11 and now i'm off to law school 🥹

can't wait to share my law school journey with u lovely people 🤍 i'm sure it would be rough but, like the saying goes—

nothing worth having comes easy.

exam week 📖📚🖊📆

busiest week everrrr i was sleep-deprived for 6 days straight 🥲 i like to think of it as a glimpse of the law school life lol

been inactive here on my studyblr so here's a short recap of life updates!

- applied to 2 law schools and already took the exam for one of em 👩🏻‍⚖️⚖️

- moved in to a condo right across my uni 🏫

- been going out more often now! usually coffee and study dates alone/with friends ☕️🥐

- almost done w my thesis 😭😭😭

- GRADUATING IN JUNE AAAAAHHHH 🎓🎓

🧘🏻‍♀️ no longer on deck! 🧘🏻‍♀️

it's our penultimate meeting for my retail trade laws class before prelims exams and i badly wanted to get called for recits this week bc i'll be going on a trip next week and i dont want my being on-deck looming over my head when im enjoying baguio. thankfully i got called ☃️🌬🌲🍃🍓

im a night person but studying in the morning makes me feel more productive. the soft light casted by the sun on things in my room sparks a particular kind of joy in me ☀️

just gotta get through the exam week! how's your october so far? :)

elo! i chose LM bc i want to go to law school :)

i recommend it esp when u want to proceed to law school. LM is a good training ground because it prepares you for the demands of law school to some extent (thats how it is for me at least). we read a lot of cases and make our own case digests, memorize a LOT, write legal papers including memorandums, etc. we also conduct recits law-school style, i.e., Socratic method.

my profs would say that the playing field is leveled in law school no matter what your undergrad is; and while i think that's true, i also think that taking up LM as my undergrad is not totally useless and gives me an advantage or two, albeit in negligible amounts. for one, i would definitely have a much harder time if i had to begin my acclimation when im already in law school. at least im kinda used to the occasional humiliation, overwhelming workload, and the heart-stopping pressure that is 10x worse during recit days as early as now, which allows me to refine my study habits and my general outlook on life so they can be more law school-appropriate

im definitelly feeling less overwhelmed and more confident that im not forgetting anything :]

prelims week! 📚 this is the tirest i had ever been cos i only had an hour of sleep when i took my sales laws exam, and i couldnt rest cos we drove to the hotel afterwards. couldnt sleep in the car either cos i had to digest a case needed for my next exam. anyw i took my legal writing exam in the hotel room lol

i read two books for this subject and sometimes it's just so draining that i skip reading for leisure :( but i've been trying to find time and rn im reading acotar! tho im not sure if i want to finish all the books in the series (pls dont hate me)

the recit guide my study group and I made last last week ft. my civpro book :~) prelims period has ended and the whole class is on deck again, but thankfully we wont have recits for this week bc we'll only be reviewing the prelim exam questions. happy sunday! 🧃🧃
