YES i ship oracle and nightwing. NO i don't ship batgirl and robin. those are two ENTIRELY different things!
Hey guys, I'd be really grateful if you commissioned me! I'm going through a tough time right now, I need money, and I'd be happy to share my art with you!â¤ď¸ You can find all the information about commissions on my blog.
The tags are for fandoms and ships which I draw most often and which you might know me for, but I also draw other fandoms stuff, OCs, illustrate fanfiction, and draw portraits.
I feel like we always have to be aware of how the writers of media manipulate their own content.
Writers choose whose stories get told, who will be shown in a sympathetic light and who will inevitably be redeemed. This doesnât even have to do with a characterâs inherent characteristicsâbecause it will always be up to the writer what this character chooses.
Thatâs probably why Iâm so against the hate for Azula. We got to see little to nothing about who this character actually is and only who she is in relation to others. Iroh is a good example of writers biasâbeing a literal fire Nation war lord and likely causing the death of so many Earth Kingdom soldiers and Fire Nation soldiersâŚand he is represented to the audience as a fully redeemed character, utterly incapable of repeating his past because he realised his mistakes?
I guess I just hate how Azula is never given the same courtesyâŚUrsa wasnât negligent because she was going through a hard time, Iroh became a good person so his sins are actually forgotten, and Zuko decided to be good obviously!
While, Ursaâs negligence shouldnât be forgotten just because she was a victim too, Iroh became a good man but that doesnât remove the past and Zuko was given up to three years before he even considered changing.
Bruh Iâm just annoyed.
Okay, so I know that Semele is generally accepted as an unarguably stupid woman who slept with Zeus while fully acknowledging it was him AND asking him after being convinced by a disguised Hera to "come to her as a comes to Hera" only to die of too much freakiness, while her child survived and got furtherly carried by Zeus.
But the idea of Semele being "divinely possessed" by fetus Dionysus is actually extremely disturbing and a great reimagination to work with. Especially if you take into account the versions of Dionysus being in fact the reincarnation of Zagreus:
Pseudo-Hyginus, Fabulae 167 : "Liber [i.e. Zagreus], son of Jove [Zeus] and Proserpina [Persephone], was dismembered by the Titanes, and Jove gave his heart, torn to bits, to Semele in a drink. When she was made pregnant by this, Juno [Hera], changing herself to look like Semele's nurse, Beroe, said to her : âDaughter, ask Jove to come to you as he comes to Juno, so you may know what pleasure it is to sleep with a god.â At her suggestion Semele made this request of Jove, and was smitten by a thunderbolt."
(Also for further questions Nonnus mentions in his account that Zeus has slept with her afterwards, so we cannot talk here about some sort of asexual conceiving.)
Not only that Semele might have had no idea that the drink she was given contained the heart of a dismembered baby, but the idea of Zagreus' conciousness still surviving somehow and remaining there to the point where it was capable to possess his new mother AND affect the other women she interacted with makes you wonder just how much of her real self Semele was at that time, especially when you consider the fact that Zagreus got brutally murdered as an infant. The strongest feeling he has ever experienced was pain, and Semele getting fooled by the same person who already hurt him and then killed by the person who rescued him him only to then be carried in his thigh is on itself a gruesome concept to think of, and if that crumble from Zagreus' conciousness survived inside Dionysus too then this adds extra horror levels to him for also being the god of madness and punishing mortals in some of the cruelest ways possible, including having mothers murdering their children. And of coursly a person who's being possessed by an entity who not only that was re-conceived inside her, but has previously "died" as a baby and likely associated living with violence because of it is going to become a nightmare fuel other people won't be able to understand, let aside help.
People make out the Greeks to be worse because they're the ones who one but if they hadn't the Trojans would've done the same thing to them their women and their children
This is just the culture they had , and if your adapting these books with these cultures why tone it down ? Why have interest in the books in the first place ?
Adapt it with the nuances that exist , good and bad
Okay I am not sure what you try to say with the first half dear Anon but I suppose you mean "the ones attacking" well under that logic wasn't the Trojans that provoked the attack in the first place? Weren't the Trojans the ones that rejected the peaceful solutions the Greeks suggested before the battles (I remind you in the Iliad we hear on the embassy that was sent to Troy with Odysseus and Menelaus as primary factors) and not only that but they also tried to murder the ambassadors or at least one of them suggested it which was one other great no no to add on top of the Xenia disrespect and also robbing the host blind.
And so on and so forth. I am fully aware of the reason why Greeks are depicted like that in modern day adaptations and I have said that in other analysis or answers as well. It is a variety of reasons;
The analogy of attacker and defender where in modern day mentality the attacker is always the bad one or the one more in the wrong and the defender is almost always more on the right scale (which of course has plenty of logic but still not always as it is)
The Greeks are the main focus of the Iliad so we have more scenes with them including more negative scenes as well as positive
The recent obsession of trying to....demoralize anything Greek. Quite frankly I notice more and more the tendency of society especially English spoken sources, to literally "deconstruct" the whole narrative of Greece as a total. That the ancient Greece everyone admired and spoke of for eons is not really THAT important and that it needs to be re-evaluated
The general re-evaluation of warrior societies (particularly European ones) in our research department but also in modern day media probably to pass an anti-war message to society but that sometimes happens with the price of villainizing sometimes the ancient societies based on our modern day evaluations
And so on and so forth. Ironically even the Iliad itself didn't do such a thing. In the Iliad we have as I said moments where Trojans are not angels just like the Greeks.
The Trojans started the conflict when their prince disrespected the law of Xenia and even robbed his host blind and took his wife with him
The Trojans perpetuated the war by refusing the peaceful reconciliation
They tried to murder the ambassadors or at least one tried to persuade the others doing it potentially bribed by Paris himself who was one of the starters of all this.
They refused to keep the oath they themselves swore when before the obvious loss of Paris to the duel with Menelaus was not respected using the godly intervention of Aphrodite as their proof
Hector had no problem kill an unarmed and stunned man (obviously. This is war after all)
Hector probably had no problem bribing a man (Dolon) with a rather impossible promise (the horses of Achilles) to send him spy at the opposite side in the middle of the night when everyone was sleeping
The Trojans seemingly tried to claim the body of Patroclus obviously for either keeping or desecration of it so that Pateoclus wouldn't be getting heroic funeral (there was a literal battle over his body even after his armor was long stripped off him)
They had no problem surrounding one man and outnumber him by multiples (Odysseus or Diomedes before him)
And so on and so forth. So for once even the Iliad itself is not showing Greeks negatively and Trojans positively (yet alone other later sources like Dares the Phrygian where we even see the TROJANS start gathering fleet and organizing attack first because Priam got report his ambassador was not respected because he was not heard on upon returning Hesione) so even then it is overly simplified.
But as you said we speak on technically people who indeed would definitely do the same (and in some cases we do as you see) but I have to say nuance doesn't mean you just show the bad side of someone and then call out "oh but it was a different time". That is technically showing the bad side of the other.
I guess what I am trying to say is that of course we must show the bad sides of people in their stories as intended but at the same time not looking exclusively on how one can show the bad side, you know? Nuance is that yes one character has their bad side has their good side like every human being but not that the one is over the other.
For instance Hector. Yes he loves his wife and son, yes he defends his city, yes he can show respect to his opponent but he can also run before an enemy, he can brag his win, he can bribe someone to do the dirty job, yes he can place a sword in someone that was stripped naked by a god in the middle of the battlefield etc
Nuance would be me showing Hector do every one of that and still present him as the intended king. Nuance is not for me to depict him as a coward arrogant bastard who bribes people all the time or brags all the time and that he takes heads of people. That is not Nuance that is just me being unfair to a character (which is how characters like Agamemnon are treated by the way). So yes that is what I wanted to say.

Helios family tree (short version because it's huge otherwise)
I saw this picture of the natla cast and I just HAD TO DRAW THEM!! The FN royal family were AMAZED in the eps!!
The realization the Gaang consists of elites! Sokka & Katara - children of the Southern Water Tribe's chief, Katara the last known Southern waterbender who also learnt the unheard substyle of bloodbending. Aang - the literal Avatar and the last airbender. Toph - from the prestigious family of the Beifongs, invented metalbending, one of the most skillful earthbenders. Zuko - Fire Nation prince, later Fire Lord, learnt firebending from the original source the last remaining dragons. Suki - leader of the Kyoshi Warriors. Actually each of them learnt their respective bendings from the original source AND had masters who are part of the White Lotus!
Make a modern day AU and they're all rich kids with privilege! The Ba Sing Se snob WISHED they were them

âAzulon secretly loved Zuko and was a wholesome grandpaâ what???
People donât really believe this, do they?
Azulon. Weâre talking about Fire Lord Azulon.
The man who continued Sozinâs genocidal war and attempted to follow in his footsteps? You know, with his attempted eradication of the Water Tribe and brutal attempted conquest of the Earth Kingdom? That Azulon?
The one that ordered Ozai to kill 11 year old Zuko as some hammurabian âeye for an eye/son for a sonâ punishment for the pettiest reason imagineable. Just because he favors Iroh and didnât like his rejected son getting any ideas and talking smack.
I repeat: a genocidal war monger and likely abusive father who ordered his son to murder his grandson for no reason other than Ozai spoke out of turn against the golden boy.
People think HE is secretly wholesome and loves Zuko? Just so you can demonize BABY AZULA, who is 9 years old at the oldest, and blame her for this too. And why? Because she warned Zuko in a bratty, mocking way.
This has to be a joke. What even is the argument?
That it makes no sense for Azulon to take out his only male heir now that Lu Ten is gone? Except Ozai does *the same thing* when he burns and banishes Zuko. Where do you think he learned it from? The Fire Nation prizes strength and Zuko was a sensitive boy who wasnât as obsessed with his studies and bending as Azula so his skills werenât anything special yet. Azulon has no reason to want Zuko on the throne.
Also Ozai and Iroh are both still alive! They could make more kids! Why would Azulon be pressed about it?
Fandom please stop making excuses for violent adults just to justify bashing brainwashed child soldiers challenge (Impossible).
To be fair, Iâve rarely seen people actually claim that. Same for the âAzulon didnât actually mean to kill Zuko, just give him to Iroh insteadâ thing, Iâve rarely seen people actually say âthis is legitimately what happens in the showâ.
Iâve mostly seen people talk about it in the context of a what if or a fanfic, where I think people mostly just want to have someone with actual power over Ozai to be in Zukoâs side.
But yeah, when straight up stated as a take, itâs pretty dumb.
I recently saw a huge post with tons of reblogs and notes that said if unironically and had people saying this was now their belief. It was really disconcerting how many people thought it was brilliant and accepted it as canon.

(hands you this)
I think I know exactly the post you're talking about and it's complete
â¨donkey shitâ¨
That particular post and the fandom's response to it are the reason why the title of my blog has been what it is for more than a year lmao
I still want to know how "Azulon wasn't going to kill Zuko, just take him away from his family (including his very protective mother) and give him to the uncle who just got his own son killed due to hubris" is actually really much better for any character. Like...great, you just forcibly removed a child from his mother. Iroh's track record here isn't exactly good with "child survival rates" at the moment.
How is this not also horribly cruel? How does fandom see this as a good thing, if these are the same people who defend Ursa's love for her son? Congrats! Every scenario you've come up with still results in Ursa losing her boy and Zuko losing his mother. Because if he's given to Iroh, like some kind of trading card, guess what! Azulon's probably going to also invalidate Ursa's claim to him!
To say nothing of how in the world one expects a woman named "bear" to not go full-on momma bear at that prospect.
Fire Lord Azulon genocide the Southern Water Tribes with the Southern Raiders causing Hama immense suffering and her later cruelty. Fire Lord Azulon conquered and committed the most slaughter of the Earth Kingdom for over 50 years! Azulon also single-handedly caused the eradication of the Dragons and led the Hundred Year War and the Seige of Ba Sing Se under his Crown Prince son Iroh and probably prosecuted any Air Nomad surviors. He also was probably an abusive father to Ozai if Fire Lady Ilah dying in childbirth headcanon is real!
JUST CAUSE HE LOVES HIS FIRSTBORN SON IROH DOESN'T MEAN HE IS A SAINT, GUYS!
ASK GRAN-GRAN, KYA & HAMA HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT AZULON!
THE BUTCHER OF THE SOUTHERN WATER TRIBES!!!!
Yep! What a wonderful and amazingly kind and loving human being!

I've said this before and I will say this again. A conflict between Bruce and Damian being compelling relies heavily (what am I even saying? 100%) on Bruce giving a fuck about Damian.
If the author writes Damian as someone Bruce resents or only sees as a hated obligation? There is nothing compelling about that! Damian should simply be on his own or with someone else if Bruce is written like this. We know he can survive on his own just fine, the only thing Bruce has to offer to Damian at this point is unconditional love and comfort. So if that's not there in the writing...why is Damian staying?
