just saw a post that said ‘i wish we could find a way for fanfic writers to profit bc they’re writing literary masterpieces’ and while i appreciate the sentiment, jesus christ, no, you do not wish that. you do not want fanfic to be ruined by capitalism. i do not want my fun hobby to be monetized. let one thing exist for a purpose other than profit, please, for the love of ao3!

100% agree. There are dozens of fics that are so good I would happily pay for them. But I also don’t want fandom to be monetized. Can you imagine the product placement ads?
