Today I engaged in the systematic, prolonged torture of one of my dogs. In any breed other than the shiba, this is known merely as “Bath Day”.

Seriously, given a choice, I’d rather go back to Afghanistan.

I was trying to get Cooper outside onto the back deck after his bath, where he could dry in the sun for a while before I brushed all the loose fur off him. I can put them on the deck and gate it off so they don’t go in the yard and get dirty. They both hate baths, but Coop actively fights me the whole time, and runs from me afterward.

My son hears me trying to find him and get him outside (I’m not above bribing him with a treat). He finds Coop downstairs, near the back door, and lets him out. “I thought you wanted him outside!?!”

Cooper is now hiding under the shed, caked in mud.

I knew that Cooper had dug a hole under the side gate. I didn’t think he could get out under it. Kati was licking his face when I first saw him like this, but by the time I had a camera in hand she had trotted off.

The highly annoying “Facebook Memories” brought this up today, reminding me that we lost Kati. She loved the snow, and would go out and play in it happily, or just plop down in a snow pile and sleep. Cooper is entirely indifferent to snow.
