It's played for laughs on a surface level, like, of course Tarvek wouldn't want to fight Baron Klaus Wulfenbach, who is one of the most terrifying men in Eupora in part because he ORGANIZED a system for knocking down Sparks who cause too much collateral damage.

However, on a personal level, is the last time Tarvek saw the Baron when the man threw him off Castle Wulfenbach?? Klaus did that in the first place to protect Gil from Tarvek, although I can't recall if Tarvek ever realized that in canon.

Now Tarvek is almost a decade and a half older, and his position in his family is even more tenuous than it was. He has no city to retreat to and rule from, and Martellus has the backing for Storm King from the Valois faction, not Tarvek. His sole protection, as Seffie noted obliquely earlier in the comic, is that he has a place in the Heterodyne's heart and he's Baron Gil Wulfenbach's... advisor-funny-little-clown-it's-cOMPLICATED, and the two boys have mostly gotten past the blackrom flirting and worked out a lot of the old knots in their relationship.

Many of those knots were ones Klaus made more tangled by kicking Tarvek off Castle Wulfenbach in the first place.

Oh boy... what happens next will be INTERESTING to watch. I bet there's a fear in Tarvek's head that Klaus Wulfenbach can bring a hammer right down on Tarvek's important connections.

Tarvek also declared he might be able to free Klaus from mind control. That will snap Klaus's leash clean off, and free to reassert his own priorities, Klaus will surely make everything endlessly more complicated on a social level for our main leads: he might move against Agatha, and might have Tarvek thrown in chains and locked in the dungeon too (metaphorically), and Gil will surely have Opinions on both of those things.

One has to wonder if Tarvek wanting to be the one to free Klaus Wulfenbach from mind control is not just doing a public service (he's breaking the chains off Baron Wulfenbach), not just helping out his friend's father, but also as a way to ensure Klaus owns him a favor. He might be hoping, at the very least, that the action would encourage Klaus to look upon him more favorably and not immediately threaten to put a sword through his chest.

How do you create deadlines / writing schedules for yourself and keep motivation to write?

Short Explanation:

One thing that's helped me as a writer is that website. It was designed to help people write more consistently by turning writing into a virtual game.

You can use it for free, or pay a monthly subscription to get access to more perks*. It also offers a place to keep track of word count goals, and rewards writers for keeping up a daily streak of writing at least 444 words a day.

*The monthly subscription is 8 or 12 USD a month depending on what tier you want.

Long Explanation:

I've found it very good for WRITING. I have ADHD and I get those dopamine hits from turning in quests and defeating monsters.

To defeat those monsters, you need to write a certain number of words in x amount of minutes, and there's a main quest to progress through to unlock more areas by writing.

There are house and wardrobe rewards for writing and places on the site where you can interact with other writers. The art is charming and the website is LGTBQ+ friendly. They hold events throughout the year; there's a dino event going on this November.

IMO, the biggest con of the website is that it tends to be buggy. It also doesn't work offline and doesn't work THAT great on a mobile phone. I would save your work elsewhere. You can download your files or just copy paste your stuff elsewhere.

Also, I have not found it to be useful for EDITING. Formatting things goes much more smoothly on Google Docs and Word. Heck, I turned off browser spell check on 4theWords so I'm not distracted by red squiggly lines when I'm writing.

Even though the site tends to be buggy, it does have some nice quality-of-life features:

you can change the color scheme of the site in settings. Options are pale gray, pale purple, dark gray, black- and more!

it counts copy pasted words if you have 'count copy pasted words' turned on in settings. You can also turn this off.

you can change the icon image and color for your files

I've enjoyed writing on 4theWords. The site doesn't care if you're writing an essay or your journal entries or brainstorming or your fanfic. It cares that you're writing. The goal is to help writers keep a consistent writing habit, and it does so well with the extrinsic rewards offered.

Where he is the target of probably multiple assassination attempts, contracts Hogfarb's, and only gets out because Violetta drugs him.

He ends up in the Castle with Agatha and Gil, is cured, pulls off a 3 person si vales valeo, repairs an irreparable mechanical monster AND a muse, accidentally seduces both the Heterodyne and the heir to the Empire

Gets kidnapped by OTHAR TRYGVASSEN GENTLEMAN ADVENTURER

Takes control of the Empire's army, saves both them and Mechanicsburg in the process

This is when Gil returns, and then the Baron returns, having been wasped. We get this exchange:

Which suggests that yes, he managed to figure out that cure in the time since I started this list. He worked with Lucrezia for three (?) very stressful days, and then yadda yadda see above. It's been like a week. Maybe two.

Gil throws him out of the airship. He saves the entire wasp eater research, helps defend a town, helps win a war, goes to have victory cake,

And is fucking stabpoisoned. AGAIN.

Gil gets him out, cures him, gets him one bath and some quick intel.

He gets kidnapped.

He gets kidnapped again.

He helps defend yet another town.

He gets kidnapped AGAIN.

He ends up in London, where he gets like. Idk. A day off?

During which he cures both Gil and Agatha of their respective mind controls, on account of being kinda good at this by now!
