Okay, thatâs IT. As a bisexual ranch dressing supporter I just canât continue to follow you in good conscience. Why do you industrial carpet shippers all think itâs okay to use bland women as a scapegoat for premium disco culture? Maybe if you actually bothered to read the ukranian degeneracy thesis youâd understand batmanâs suntan technique, but I guess youâre just too busy making free insurance consultation posts, so whatever. Blocked, flambĂŠed and unfollowed.
being on mobile and seeing the random generated ask before the warning about it made this an experience
Blocked, flambeed, and unfollowed is pretty awesome tho
Why is it when a person of colour commits a violent crime against a white person it somehow becomes a condemnation of their entire race or ethnic group, and a sign that immigration is out of control, and that certain groups can never integrate into "our" way of life or what the fuck ever? And the Farage fuckers with the IQ of a teaspoon are out having themselves a little riot for the sake of it.
But when a white person commits a violent crime against a person of colour, suddenly people understand the concept of not assigning collective responsibility to an entire group of people for the actions of one. Suddenly, there's calls for "calm" and "understanding."
Why is that, I wonder? đ¤
Just kidding, I know why.
Thank you. I hope everybody thinks this

see when people try and nitpick me because i call my dog "my dog" when it's technically "the family dog".......well first of all i still call my brother "my brother" and not "the family boy". although maybe that should change. second of all sorry i'm still thinking about the family boy. btw i fell asleep while making this post last night and i think you can tell
Very tenuous link to one of my favourite tweets
Now it is done. If I speak again, I am not Kabr.
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as âproblematicâ in class and our professor was like, âThatâs cool, but âproblematicâ doesnât really mean anything. It means that the thing youâre describing has a problem, and in and of itself thatâs not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else itâs not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like youâre trying to say that this is bad, but you donât want to say âbad.â Is that right?â
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the âbadâ thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, âIâm uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.â
Once we stopped calling things âproblematicâ and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, âthatâs racistâ or âthatâs misogynisticâ or âew capitalism grossâ out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, âUhhh... Iâm not sure whatâs so bad?â and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I canât help but think of this professor being like, âGood starting point, now letâs get specific.â I think when we have to commit to saying âthatâs ___â it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever weâre claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes itâs art, and it should be full of problems, because thatâs what art is.
#'this is present in the text' is often a good first step #but those second and third ones (naming it; describing its function) are vital (via @elucubrare)

Thinking about Purity
I have two thoughts on Purity. Here they are:
One. Her trigger event consisted of her being trapped in a lethal environment with no resources, gradually going insane, and developing overwhelming firepower in order to fight off a horde of assailants who didnât actually exist. I canât imagine what thatâs a metaphor for. Havenât the foggiest.
Two.  Purity is interesting, from a worldbuilding perspective, because at the start of the story thereâs an actual niche archetype from the comics that sheâs fulfilling.
âHardcore street-level hero who actually turns out to be a racist lunatic that the actual heroes need to take downâ isnât quite a chestnut at the big two but itâs a story beat Iâve seen multiple times; Nightwing vs his buildingâs insane janitor in Dixonâs run, Captain America vs Jack Monroe and to a lesser extent USAgent, I feel like Batmanâs deal with Lock-up from the animated series inches towards this, although that one wasnât explicitly racialized. Punisherâs done this a couple times, Itâs Peacemakerâs whole bit, thereâs definitely a few more Iâm forgetting.
So the subversive element here isnât that sheâs an openly racist superhero; itâd that sheâs still allowed to be a racist superhero. Itâs that a thematically appropriate hero like Legend hasnât come to town specifically to drop the hammer on her for daring to be an openly racist superhero.Â
And to be charitable, whatâs usually going on in those other stories is that the racist heroes are almost always explicitly bad knockoffs of the protagonist. Theyâre intended as a dark mirror, because the obvious failure mode of heroic vigilantism is that itâs extremely appealing to racists, glory hounds, egomaniacs and egomaniacal racist glory hounds, but the flip side of that is that people with those characteristics go down like chumps in a fight with a true-blue hero. They exist in the story as a one-off warning for the real heroes, who give them a chance and then chuck them in the bin when they show their true colors.
Worm, though, doesnât have a just-so structure. The racist idiots who get superpowers and develop delusions of heroism donât provide the courtesy of also being weak and incompetent enough that the ârealâ heroes can root them out with minimal fuss. Purity won the goddamn power lottery; sheâs one of the most powerful capes in the Bay, with hit-and-run capabilities that all of the heroes working together are textually incapable of countering. (And this isnât like The Boys where theyâre all secretly in bed with each other- New Wave has serious beef with the Empire! They would absolutely pin her ass to the wall if the opportunity arose, but they canât!)
So in a very real sense, The Protectorate is pussyfooting around her, letting her exist in the gray zone of self-deluded vigilantism, becauseâŚ. well, the second she canât sustain her self-deception anymore, the second someone really pushes, her go-to reaction is to commit a mass casualty event. She was always a time bomb, and so the strategy of just continuing to label her as a villain, while she continuously hopefully refreshes PHO to see if any helpful fans have updated her wiki page yet, is, you know, I get it. Itâs not great but I get it. A hands on approach only works if you can actually lay hands on them.
But! As far as I can remember, she was functionally operating as an Independent Hero as the setting defines it! Everyone in power pretends she isnât but she was still in that ballpark, hand in hand with how selectively racist she was being about it! She was a vigilante, she was out to target âcriminalsâ and clean up the streets using her powers, she had a costume and a secret identity- actually one of the few capes we see in Brockton Bay with a full-time day job- and she was really really really racist.
So with Purity, Worm is being honest about the inability of a superhero community to clean house, to effectively police who gets to be a part of it, who gets to actively consider themselves a part of it. There was never going to be a righteous beat-down where she gets âkicked outâ of the fraternity, no âyou are not affiliated with meâ moment that finally gets through, even though many heroes in the setting would dearly love to deliver such a thing. A certain level of power purchases the right to think of yourself in whatever terms you want, and the heroes just have to stand around looking uncomfortable and swearing up and down that, no, her vigilantism is different from good vigilantism, honest, completely different underlying models.
This is excellent analysis that puts to word my own thoughts on the subject. I feel bad for Wildbow because he clearly wrote the Purity interlude expecting that the subtext of Purity being a self-deluded, violent bigot would come through easily to the readers, even with her more sympathetic, nuanced traits. Crusaderâs interlude is similar although you can tell WB went less subtle with the grotesqueness of E88 and maliciousness of Crusader as a person, even if heâs that chapterâs window.
Iâve always loved how E88 is both filled with a diverse set of twisted personalities yet they all seem to âfitâ into the theme of Nazi supervillains without being too cliche. Theyâre emblematic of Brockton Bay being an overall neglected and violent city, the backdrop to Taylorâs own personal despair building up to her trigger and descent into villainy. Iâve seen people headcanon Taylor as Jewish and it doesnât quite fit only because she seems to have a pretty nonchalant attitude towards how much of her home is controlled by Nazis but you could argue that itâs her ânormalâ as messed up a normal as it is.
you seem like the soft bi aroallo butch who you meet at a bar and have a one night stand with, then the next morning the person wakes up to you not being in bed, until you come up behind them and hug them from behind while just in boxers and unbuttoned flannel shirt.
okay well that's you just making shit up if I can be honest. including the butch part ??? and especially the part where I let someone sleep in my bed
in the spirit of fun I'm ranking every wrong part of this from least to most egregiously wrong
acting like "soft bi aroallo butch" is widely known category of person
