- evaluate the amount of time you will handle radioactive material by performing a dry run.
- whine and complain until someone else does the experiment for you.
- control your intake by putting on an air-supplied isolation suit, like astronauts use.
- shield yourself by keeping a big, heavy floor-to-ceiling sheet of lead in front of you.
- distance yourself by buying multi-million dollar robotically-controlled remote manipulators.

You are using an open vial of radioactive sample and are leaving the lab for lunch. Before leaving the laboratory, you must:
- leave it on any bench unattended.
- leave it in the radiation work area with a hand written sign that says, "Don't touch this stuff!"
- put in a locked box or locked refrigerator.
- shove it in an unlabeled drawer that is not locked.
- put is behind a large centrifuge so nobody will see it until you get back.
