You need to post a comment on this website right now.
The FDA is considering a petition to make all trans women on estrogen enroll in a registry as a condition of our prescriptions.
If you are in the United States, you have the power to comment on this proposed regulation. The instructions for doing so, and more about the petition, are here. I just left a comment, and it took two minutes. You can do so anonymously.
The petition is bad for other reasons too. It blatantly singles out transgender women and asks for mandatory psychiatric gatekeeping of lifesaving gender affirming care.
right now there are 61 comments on the petition and all are in support of it. Being one of the voices that pushes back is the easiest thing in the world.
If you don't like those posts about how everyone on this website doesn't care about trans women, and wouldn't lift a finger to save us from genocide, here's your chance to prove them wrong.
If you are an expert, a medical professional, or a researcher, we especially need your voice. Please do not hesitate to leave a comment. Again the link is here.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
This week, we described three new species of toads from Tanzania in the Open Access journal Vertebrate Zoology!
These toads look absolutely crazy. Like, look at the new species Nectophrynoides uhehe:
Or the closely related Nectophrynoides viviparus, which was described in 1905 but which we revised in this paper.
These are unlike most toads you might know. They live in trees and bushes of the rainforest, crawling and leaping about!
But neither ecology nor apperance are nearly the craziest part: These toads are live bearing! Females carry huge litters, sometimes >100 young, until they complete their development, and give birth to these tiny, fully formed toadlets.
CW: Preserved specimen of a pregnant toad below the cut.
hello ethereal anime girl artist. Before you is a pencil and some paper. If you can sketch out a fat person, you can go free. Fail, and this rube Goldberg machine will activate the guillotine that kills you bad

Welp. Google's AI horseshit has arrived. And I'm not complying. They can pry my ID out of my cold dead hands. I will simply go elsewhere. Remember folks, DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR IDs. Do not comply. Resist, fight it, use other browsers or sources beyond youtube and google controlled services. Call them. Email them. Make noise. Fight back.
I've been using Google as my main mail service since 2006, and every single account or service I've ever signed up for was made with that address. For a long time I thought it'd be impossible to divorce myself from Google.
It took less than 5 minutes to switch to a ProtonMail account, less than 2 hours to download and/or offload every byte of data from my Google account, and less than 3 days to change every single account or service I've ever signed up for to the new address.
As of today, the only single one I have that's still tied to it is YouTube. It's the only thing I'd lose access to if I deleted my Google acount entirely.
They really, really want you to believe that it's a hassle to switch to a different email system. But it's not. Most websites and/or services allow you to change the email address associated with it.
I've been using Google for almost 2 decades and it only took a few days to move everything. It's not a painful sacrifice; it's an easy change that, frankly, has absolutely been worth it.
Proton Shoutout
You can and should switch to a free, encrypted Proton email account. You also get all of the below perks. For free. There is no trick. It is paid for by the people with paying plans. I am one of them. The (completely functional) free tier is there to entice you into getting a paid account with even more perks. (It worked on me.) But there's no penalty or pressure for staying with the free account.
Also get your stuff off the google drive and put it on Proton's drive. It is encrypted. Only you with your password can access it. Not even Proton can see what you put in there.
Switch everything away from Google. It's easy and it's important. Read above, click the link for Proton, download your gmail and switch.

people act like there can be no nuance to discussions of trans men being perceived as "real men" while also asking people to be aware that we are not cis and we have specific needs
to the average stranger, yes I personally want to be perceived as a cis man. I don't want every single stranger to know that i was born a girl, for my own safety. its none of their business and I'm fine if they perceive me as a cis man.
to my friends, I want them to know I'm trans because it's an important piece of my identity that I am proud of and that has shaped every aspect of my life. I trust them to still treat me like a "real man" and i don't make friends with people who only consider cis men to be "real men"
and i ABSOLUTELY want healthcare providers to know that I'm trans because my body has specific needs that a cis man doesn't have, I literally have different organs than a cis man does. i still need healthcare providers to respect my identity and treat me like they would any other man.
so when we insist that yes we are men, no we are not cis and we need different resources both medically and socially than a cis man and people respond "oh so you just don't think trans men can be real men?" I have to ask why do you think being treated like a real man equals being treated like a cis man, all the time?
HUGE boosting this!!! if your food stamps are going to be lost in November, and you have the money to spare, or have it to spare for a friend, please, eat for me!
In US states with ShopRite, Stop & Shop, or Key Foods, those chains usually also offer a seasonal deal where if you spend a minimum dollar value through the holiday dates using your rewards card, you get a free turkey, ham, or lasagna.
Without Aldi, if you have one of those in your area, it may be worth switching for your regular grocery shopping this month to earn the points and get the free food. Iirc they're also not weight-limited, so you can get a huge one and meal-prep/freeze for later use if you're not usually hosting. The way hams are cured means they last in the fridge for like months.
okay i know im doxxing where i go to school with this one but im pretty pissed off rn. at my university the past few years there has been someone who spray painted pink cats around campus. i always loved to see the cats on my way to class and so did everyone else i talked to about it. they felt like a unique part of our school. the person who created the cats was arrested and has been ordered to pay $32,000 which is a fucking ridiculous amount. please consider donating to her ko-fi or sharing this post (i got her permission to share on tumblr.)
a few points from the article
she was arrested and the police initially refused to let her use the bathroom, then said she had to use it with the door open. (the way the cops treated her is not okay you guys i am actually so pissed off)
the police made her write an apology letter to the chancellor of the university, which they probably never even gave to him.
her phone was confiscated and she had to find her way home from woodland, which is about 10 miles away.
a retail job offer was rescinded because she failed their background check.
she was charged with a misdemeanor. fines for misdemeanors are typically about $1,000 in california, but she has been ordered to pay $32,000 in restitution by may 2026.

I do think that actual play is the final boss for literary analysis and the nerds who enjoy it because developing an understanding of both structure and intention is the first and arguably most fundamental step in learning that skill and the medium of live playing ttrpgs just… completely rips the rug out from under you in that regard
the dice take away most opportunity for premeditated story beats and force the players to create meaning from random chance, which in turn forces viewers to not only analyze the choices made in real time but consider what would motivate both a character AND a performer/writer to make them
and while intention is usually deeply baked into a characters creation and the world building from the dm, again the randomness of how things play out leads to intention sometimes drastically changing or even being fully abandoned or a player doing fascinating and observable work to incorporate what has happened into the story they set out to tell
this makes it a fun, ultimately unending challenge to apply the strategies viewers have honed and developed by analyzing pre written works to something incredibly fluid and unpredictable. there’s even a need to apply things greater concepts like psychology, esoteric knowledge of the game, and understanding of the human playing the character to your interpretation of the final product (not to say many of those things aren’t relevant to literary analysis but they give a helpful push towards more nuanced and contextual thinking)
for me, it makes analytical thinking feel more like an exercise than a science, because you’re working with very intense and often serious narrative principles being established, albeit by the best in the business, through quick thinking and improv
Me and a few of my brothers are all on the spectrum but only one of us has gone through the process of getting a legit medical diagnosis and he denies it with his whole chest whenever it’s convenient so it’s become an ongoing bit for us to trick each other Revealing A Symptom while swearing to the death that our own Weird Symptom is completely normal
For example
-
Me, Autistic: What would you do if all your socks were suddenly mismatched heights and materials
Brother 1, Autistic: Kill myself
Brother 2, Autistic: (nodding) A normal reaction that everyone has
-
Brother 1: (eating his food weird in a very specific way)
Me: (also eating my food weird, but different) Don’t like it when the different ingredients are touching, huh
Him: Fuck you
-
Brother 2, cannot handle any seasonings: Did you eat dinner yet
Me, who cannot handle bland food: Yep
Him: Was it canned ravioli
Me: Maybe
Him: What did you have for breakfast
Me: …
Him: Was it also canned ravioli
Me: ………..
Brother 3, who has openly and shamelessly eaten nothing but store brand potato salad from a plastic tub for the last month and a half: You’re gonna make yourself sick doing that
It’s important to add too that they have a dog who carries around a ball everywhere he goes and all he does is drop and catch it over and over and over again for hours and hours and hours non stop and he will ONLY poop near their house and ONLY when one of two specific people are watching him and he screams whenever people hug each other and hates paper towel rolls and so part of the bit is that the dog is also autistic
When we were growing up once a year we’d go on a week long road trip once a summer and every single time we’d go to the same place and stop at the same museums and the three of us who were obsessed with history and architecture would do one thing and the rest of us who were obsessed with natural history and animal facts would do another and then we’d pile back into the car to listen to the same two CD’s of My Chemical Romance or Red Hot Chili Peppers on a loop while playing The Animal Game, which is a game where everyone has to guess what animal you’re thinking of by asking ONLY yes or no questions and narrowing it down by phylum and habitat and shit, and then we’d pull in at a shitty motel where we’d put on either Shark Week, Mythbusters, or The Fireplace Channel, the latter of which we would watch together in dead silence only to cheer when The Hand appeared to toss a new log on, so in hindsight there were signs
This is the dog

Hello Tumblr! I'm working on my dissertation at the moment & if you're willing, filling out this very short (8 question) survey about AI and data usage would be super helpful!! :)
People are so much more sad, and desparate, and lonely than you think. I have had three incidents in the last four months were a technician I was working with was being either dangerously unfocused (we work with high voltage), or just flat out angry with their coworkers, and every time when I just pulled them aside to say hey, this isn't you, you're nice, and you're competent, so something must be up - what can I do to help - they have responded by bursting into tears. One guy was struggling to get his wife moved into a care home, one guy just got served divorce papers, and the other hadn't slept a wink the night before because his daughter had the pukes.
I haven't spent my whole life responding to people being rude, or stupid, or dangerous with knee jerk compassion. It's a new habit. The first time I did that as the lead for my lab, it was because the guy genuinely was so good natured that I knew something had to be off. But the other two times were just me going, alright, lets see if it always goes this well, and so far, it has. I'm almost 30, and I just figured out that the #1 reason people are shitty are because they are going through shit.
I don't think you have, like, a moral obligation to respond to people being jerks with knee jerk compassion. But it has made my life so much easier the last four months that I would recommend trying. For your own sake. Please.
(I'll step off my soapbox now. Enjoy your Sunday.)
