I really and truly believe that the "treat yourself" culture and people living well above their means and going into a ton of debt just to have fun and live lives of luxury with no regard for the future is a form of passive suicidal ideation. I am only now dragging myself out of a hole of suicidal ideation after being in it since my very early teens and the idea that what you do now doesn't matter because you don't have a future is like. Classic passive suicidal ideation. You aren't actively planning to hurt yourself, you don't actively want to die, but subconsciously or not, you are envisioning a future where you do not exist.

"It doesn't matter if I max out a dozen credit cards because I don't have a future anyway." Okay, why? Why don't you have a future? Where are you in this mystery future where none of your actions now can touch you? I am not trying to be mean, but I need people to really think about this and realize that they are setting up a future for themselves where they are not present and there's only one way that can happen.

I started smoking at fifteen because it didn't matter, I figured I'd never make it to twenty-five, why should I care about cancer? (classic passive suicidal ideation).

I'm turning forty this year and I really really wish I'd been aware how much building up debt would fuck me and what options there were for me to save when I was younger.

You probably aren't going to die before you retire. You are probably going to live past the age where you will be able to work. There is a tomorrow and we want you in it and we want you to be okay.

He didn't do it.

The cops very clearly planted evidence on him because they had to make an arrest because all eyes were on them and whoever actually did the deed was making them look stupid.

Why would the real killer hero have kept the weapon on his person and traveled two states over while carrying it and a manifesto in his bag, conveniently turning the crime into a federal matter? The same guy whose bag they found in a park, filled with monopoly money? Why did the police turn off their bodycams, take Luigi's stuff, drive a block away, turn their bodycams back on, go back into the restaurant, and then arrest him?

They will say “don’t you want them to go to the grave without debt”, they will try to guilt you, they will take advantage of your vulnerability.

Source: when my father died, he had some credit cards that my mom wasn’t on that she had no access to. The companies contacted her while she was sorting through the bills and getting a handle on how to run the house alone, badgering her with his credit card debt.

She wasn’t liable for any of it, but if she had ever agreed to pay before finding out that she didn’t need to, she would have been considered to have taken on his debt and would have HAD to pay it. It’s slimy, it’s predatory, and it’s entirely legal for them to do this.

Additional information: State lawmakers have been gunning for Pearson and Jones nearly their entire terms. Most notably, in 2023, the House expelled them for participating in a protest at the Capitol. Their districts had to have special elections to have them reinstated.

Pearson is one of the plaintiffs of a lawsuit seeking an injunction against the redistricting.

I had a Kakashi bookmark so we held it up against the screen as a joke but the static actually cleared up. Mystified, we tried different bookmarks and objects with the same plastic material but nothing else worked, only the Kakashi bookmark.

We ended up taping it to the corner of the screen and it stayed there for 11 years until we moved out. When I was older people would be like “can you move the bookmark off the screen” bc it did sort of block a bit of the view but I would demonstrate the static issue and everyone was always just like “huh. what the hell?? well…alright.”

Yes, because the Washington state government activated like a sleeper-cell and ruthlessly, systematically hunted them down and annihilated them.

“Y2K came to nothing amirite?”

Yes because an army of software engineers working around the clock, losing sleep, and busting ass till the last minute prevented it from happening.

“Remember the hole in the ozone layer?”

You mean the one that was fixed through rigorous world wide government action?

One of the root problems of our society is a refusal or inability by media to articulate that all those “it’s gonna be an apocalypse” disasters were not disasters because we collectively did something about them.

The good news is this is actually quite correctable. I maintain my firm belief that we as humans are capable of solving almost all of our problems, when we decide to do so.

And I still think that’s going to happen. I don’t know when or how, but I do know that abandoning hope won’t help bring it about.
