"The sculpture in the image is âDas Schicksalâ (Fate), created in 1905 by Hugo Lederer. The sculpture portrays fate as a ruthless woman dragging two vulnerable bodies by their hair.
The work is currently located in Ohlsdorf Cemetery in Hamburg, Germany."
from @dustseasons on instagram .
Pulitzer Prize type shit
Why's this dude built like crash bandicoot
Everything about this damn post is so funny to me. The lighting of the arm from the flash. The posing of the arm like a dramatic death from a novella. The fact the photo somehow got taken still and looks this good. The subreddit name. The fact this guy really is built like crash bandicoot
im fucking crying
Free service with ads: Well, if I'm not paying for it they have to foot the bill somehow.
Paid service with no ads: Well, if they're not funding it with ad revenue, they need to charge us something.
Paid service with ads: Well that's bullshit.
"We used to be a paid service without ads, but now we're putting ads in it! If you want the ad-free version you have to pay more for preeeeemium": Fuck you fuck you fuck you
Free service with no ads: either the beautiful, regal library or similar collection of knowledge (e.g. wikipedia, internet archives, etc.) or the dastardly and nefarious service whose profit is in the form of collecting your data
Public libraries absolutely work on the âpaid service with no adsâ model. The money to pay for it comes from taxes. And a lot of town governments are REALLY resentful that they have to allocate tax money to pay for it. So if you want this free service to remain free and available, you need to make sure to be attentive to local politics! Vote in local elections and learn your mayorâs/select board membersâ/city councilâs policies and call them and BOTHER THEM ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU LOVE THE LIBRARY!

I think abt this tiktok all the time
Diversity hire bryson ur absolutely slaying
common advice for social anxiety is to tell yourself "people aren't going to think less of you just because you said something a bit daft" but the thing is. sometimes they will. and you just have to learn to be cool with that and to treat it as a dnd random encounter rather than letting it ruin your whole day
recent example. lady at my careers appointment had a post-it with her name on it stuck to the monitor, so i introduced myself by saying "hello, i'm eliot! you must be [name], it's nice to meet you!" and she stared at me as if i was the stupidest person alive and said icily, "yeah, i'm [name]. congratulations, you can read."
in bygone times this would have reduced me to a sort of quivering blancmange. thankfully i am now in a place where i was able to pull back, calmly evaluate this interaction, and say to myself "this woman should probably not be working in a customer-facing job"
important additions!!!!
the fantasy lesbian adventurer is immune to the seductive evil sorceress's feminine wiles because she's butch4butch
this is exactly why any evil sorceress worth her salt keeps a towering knightgirl in gleaming black armor "on retainer"
well it's one of two reasons anyway
Cosplayers at a Star Trek Convention, 1976
in this house we have endless respect for cosplayers from the days before VCRs.
You couldnât just rewatch the episode to look at all the details of the costume. You got lucky with press photos showing up in magazines or you just watched the episode/movie while sketching furiously
thinking about that one woman who made a Star Wars flight suit in 1977 entirely from trading cards and sketching details in the theater. or stories Iâve heard about old school Trek cosplayers getting the bizarre seam placements right by photocopying magazines onto overhead transparencies and projecting them onto butcher paper.
Iâm a semi old school cosplayer (started in 2001) so some of the old school techniques are still things I learned on (Iâve sketched from stuttering VHS tapes on pause and used the overhead transparency trick)⌠what we have access to now for costume recreation blows what they had out of the water just in terms of reference material, let alone specialty costume supplies like thermoplastics and cosplay wigs.
That Star Wars fan who made the flight suit from trading cards and movie sketches is TJ Burnside and she is still with us. In fact, I am adding to her Fanlore page with info about the flight suit (and how it went viral on Twitter and Redditt a few years back). Fanlore.org, is a fan run fandom history wiki. Stay tuned.
Her (sadly) barebones Fanlore page is here: https://fanlore.org/wiki/T.J._Burnside
this is her! she was 16 at the time
"I can't believe humans would hunt the thylacine to extinction, humans are fundamentally evil" Hey, did you know that extinction was long thought to be impossible, and within 50 years of humans realizing that extinction via overhunting was a possibility it practically stopped happening? Did you know that humans are so desperate to prevent more losses that they're funneling millions of collective hours and billions of euros into helping other species? Hours and euros that could be spent on humans, and species on whom humanity's own survival does not depend? Did you know that due to an accidental introduction of rats, the Lord Howe Island stick insect population was brought down to 24 individuals and now there are tens of thousands of them?
This bug. This bug that, to most humans, is utterly useless, relatively gross, and completely foreign. Humans saved it because humans do not want to cause another extinction ever again if they can avoid it.
@crabussy
as someone in the field of ecological conservation, I can promise without a shadow of a doubt that people DO care. SO MANY people care.
I have to race to sign up to volunteer trips because even with dozens of spots available, people rush to devote their unpaid free time to helping the environment. these trips often fill up within hours. people care.
you will see a lot of bad news because that is the kind of news that people pay the most attention to. I know this more than you'd think from my optimism- not only do I live somewhere facing some of the most extreme ecological issues on the planet, I also spend my time studying the Bad Stuff every single day.
to see all of this firsthand and stay hopeful is proof enough that there IS hope. I promise there is good news, brilliant news, all the time. it's just less visible. but it's no less important or impactful.

This is what Rasputin would've wanted.
karma got its kiss for meâŚâŚ. thats 2017 in one video
I love that Leverage really goes out of itâs way to show us that just because you break the ârulesâ, it doesnât mean youâre breaking the rules. Rules and laws and society are all made up, at the end of the day, and all you really have is your own moral compass and sense of justice; is this just to you? Is it right? Should it be OK for companies to put people in insurmountable debt for the rest of their lives just because our medical care is so expensive in this modern day and age? No law or rule should change what you know in your heart is right and wrong, and I think thatâs the key thing that makes someone a good person in my eyes.
#there was a time when parker wouldnât have noticed, #not because she lacked the capacity to care, #but because she had narrowed herself, #to stay alive she cut off as many unnecessary things as possible, #watching her get them all back, #is one of the glories of this show (via @seananmcguire)
Leverage hands down has the best character development Iâve ever seen.
This scene hit me like a brick. My parents were hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt when I was 16 bc Iâd had cancer the year before (my treatment ended up being free but the initial ER bills and such were not).
But somewhere along the line they just⌠Disappeared. My mom says theyâre not being paid and theyâre not in collections. Itâs almost as if someone out there didâŚexactly what Parker did.
Ever since I saw this the first time, Iâve imagined it was Parker doing it. That she and Hardison had a free weekend and decided to take it out on a collections agency. That I was one of the lucky ones who got a little Leverage.
Okay but like yeah, that is actually a thing that happens, albeit not exactly like this. I donât remember the exact process but basically thereâs a booming industry to sell peoples debt - the business you owe money to sells it to someone else for a fraction of the money owed, wipes their hands of the whole affair, and now whoever bought your debt is riding your ass to get you to give the money to the. But itâs also entirely possible for people to just⌠buy up massive amounts of debt for pennies on the dollar, and then just. Forgive it. Because capitalism is a living nightmare, but the system is broken enough that itâs possible to exploit it for good sometimes.
Like, the main reason I know about this is because John Oliver did a piece on debt buying a few years ago, and ended it by revealing that heâd bought 15 million dollars worth of medical debt just so he could forgive all of it. Both to expose how broken the system was because some random fucker like him could buy millions of dollars in peoples debt with zero regulations, and also just to take the record for biggest TV giveaway in history.
A charity where you can do this, right here.
Be Parker! Be somebody elseâs Leverage!
Reblogging for the website.
yes! if you want to help with the medical debt crisis in the US and have some extra money please donate to RIP Medical Debt if you can. Theyâre completely legit and really do what they say - you really CAN relieve an incredible amount of debt for the needy with even a small donation. Iâm a monthly donor and receive a quarterly report of the debt theyâve abolished, and it truly is amazing. Based on those reports the average amount of debt abolished per person is actually I would say about $600 - which means, if youâre doing the math, that with a $6 donation to RIP Medical Debt, you can potentially pull one person out of a poverty spiral - maybe even one family. For six dollars. thatâs a pretty good deal, I think.
RIP Medical Debt is now called Undue Medical Debt!
Undue Medical Debt makes it easy for donors to make an impactful difference in the lives of those struggling with medical debt.
the smoke from the canadian wildfires has made my air quality be in the dangerous level for most of the day and i wanted to make a bit of a guide for what to do and make it a bit more applicable to people with disabilities, especially chronic illnesses
if you are in an area impacted by dangerous air quality:
stay hydrated and inside as much as possible. if you struggle staying hydrated, increase your salt or electrolyte intake. you can add electrolytes into your water with brands like liquid iv
if you donât wear one already, now is a great time to start masking again (and keep it up! the pandemic isnât over!) as itâll help filter some of the smoke. specifically use an N-95 or a KN-95 â cloth or surgical masks are not equipped for this
people with asthma, lung disease like COPD, people with cardiovascular conditions, people with diabetes, and other circulatory conditions are at a significantly higher risk due to the nature of it being an air quality issue, but if youâre chronically ill outside of these categories it will still hit harder so be aware of yourself
pregnant people are also at a higher risk than the general public
if you are experiencing trouble breathing, heart palpitations, nausea, or dizziness and itâs not something you regularly do or itâs noticeably worse, please get medical help. i get most of these usually and i know those symptoms can be normal for people who follow me, so just be aware of your normal and judge from there
if you find yourself beginning to feel any of these symptoms but donât have access to fast medical care or money is an issue, stay alert for the start and immediately take time to rest, put a cool washcloth over your eyes, or even your full face. do as much as you can to avoid any stress to your body from excess movement
for your air conditioning, keep it on a recirculate setting if you have that setting to prevent it from bringing outside air in. you can keep the air conditioning on even if you donât have this setting though, so if you have poor heat regulation abilities please keep it on to avoid your body going through extra stress
additional air filters in the home are also beneficial. once this has passed, replace the filters so they are clear for any subsequent events
stay in rooms you can insulate from the outside. it can also be helpful to place rolled up towels or blankets along the seams of your doors and windows to prevent outside air from getting in
if youâve been outside, take a shower to wash yourself off. if you canât do a shower for whatever reason, try and grab a wet washcloth or some wet wipes and wash your hands and face. those two areas prevent the pollution from entering your eyes, nose, and mouth from either touching with the hand or it migrating on your face. washing your hair is recommended too, but again your mileage may vary on what you are able to do

The Tortall books are for horse girls, girls who wish they could talk with their pets, and girls who picked up as many chairs as their little bodies could lift when their teacher said âI need some strong boys to help me move these chairsâ.
Youâre just not ready. At no point in this video when he says the next thing are you ready.
