you know how moms like to come into your room and inspect everything and show you videos they found on facebook and intrude on your personal life
when really they're just checking in on you because they think you're on drugs or something
well tony stark absolutely does that to peter but in the form of facetime (since they don't live together)
he'll just call and talk bullshit and judge things in the background of the video and show new projects he's working on whole time peter just sits there like
:) ???????? because like did you call me just to judge my messy room and tell me to shower and immediately go on a tangent about mechanics or is there an avenger's crisis i should worry about
tony (i am so good at this i'm nothing like my father)
peter (my boss/coworker is such a weird guy)
anyway goodnight
there’s such a dichotomy between tony blaring music in his garage, and him working quietly in his cabin.
he had to have grow comfortable with working in silence. i can’t help but think that he had to have spent several hours in the lab with a teenager who squinted at his bright lights, grimaced at screeching guitar solos when the volume was too high.
after all, he’d said his senses were “dialed up to eleven”.
so tony got used to working with the lights dimmed, changed colour of the bulbs so they didn’t give the kid migraines after their hours-long stints in the lab. he kept his volume down and even modified the tones so the treble was at a tolerable level.
he eventually found that he preferred these changes, because they had become synonymous with peter parker being comfortable. which meant tony was comfortable.
and while he especially hated that his preferences changed, that he now preferred a quiet workspace, following the kid’s subsequent death, he couldn’t deny—
it had been good practice for working while the baby was sleeping.
Pre-spell Peter who only does planned public appearances with his eyes closed because all of the attention is too stressful when he can see everyone staring at him
vs
peter post spell fighting down the panic and desperately scanning each face trying to see if he recognizes anyone in the crowd, telling himself it’ll all be worth it if he can just see ANY familiar face one more time. (they’re never there. He eventually closes his eyes for the rest of it, once he gives up)
peter who does public appearances with sunglasses just like tony, so no one can see that his eyes are closed.
the EDITH glasses which are made purposefully so you can see the eyes through the lenses, because tony is that certain that what peter has to show deserves to be seen. that people will look at peter’s eyes and see the same light in them that he does. that people will love peter the same way he loves peter.
even if peter had the EDITH glasses, i sincerely doubt he would wear them to public appearances. he’s terrified of everyone seeing just how scared he is; just how desperate he is.
peter who is so scared of not looking like tony stark that he ends up resembling the worst part of tony’s persona: the nonchalant playboy. because maybe if he can hide his true emotions from the public, they won’t go after the people he keeps searching for in the crowds.
Imagine Peter Parker attending protests as Spiderman.
Because of the tension with the Accords and how they apply to vigilantes and Spider-man's unofficial affiliation with the Avengers, he doesn't wear the suit Tony gave him. When Spider-man shows up to protests everyone knows to be looking for the ratty hoodie and sweatpants instead of the sleek and modern suit everyone kind of just assumed came from Tony Stark. Peter shows up to keep an eye on things and has been known to occasionally web together the hands and/or feet of cops who are getting unnecessarily aggressive with protestors. There are clips of Spider-man whisking protestors out of harm's way circulating the internet after most protests and banners of support are often found webbed in impossibly high places. Spider-man doesn't wear capes, sure, but he's been spotted swinging around with flags supporting different movements tied around his neck while he watches over his city during times of political tension.
I couldn't sleep until I got this out of my head so bear with me if it's poorly written and goodnight everyone

I need to figure out why he keeps going. Out of what? Guilt? They say there's a fucking correlation between generosity and guilt. It makes the most sense, in the moment. He can't waste the life Yinsen gave to him. The life he gave up for him. Do you think it's all he is? I think it's all Tony allows himself to be. And I get it. I understand the instinct to throw yourself into the line of fire when peace and privilege is all you've known. In the beginning, you tell yourself that you're doing it for some grand, noble reason. That's what we all tell ourselves, I think, to keep us going. Like a little dose of hope in the morning to get you to the night. But you're not. You're just itching to bleed in order to justify the pain you're going through. Suffering is not noble. Suffering is not enough. The gratification you get from numbing the pain doesn't mean you've found the cure; guilt is chronic when it weighs on your soul, the deeper a bullet goes, the gentler the extraction must be. I'm trying to imagine the night after. Returning home, alone, to that pristine, shiny mansion. Tony always had a habit of overworking, but I think that's where the habit became instinct; an hour past midnight, under the dim moonlight on one of his many balconies, or maybe sat stock still on that smooth, expensive leather couch—either calculating how much everything cost and where that money could have gone, or staring a hole into the ground imagining it were him. No one's looking back. Two hours past one, he snaps out of it. He rises far too quickly, and his vision blurs into a nauseating blend of brownish reds and greyish greens, it doesn't matter. Tony breathes in once, far too deeply. Gliding through the massive mansion, making not a sound, Tony enters his garage. He has to be alone. Who did he have at the time? Obie? He fondled Tony's chest the second he got home—"show me, I wanna see it"—there's no chance that he'd be there that night. Tony has, seemingly, exactly four personal relationships at the time, and three of them seem to only tolerate him at best, meanwhile the third begged him to undress. The others can only be around him for so long, right? Comfort him a little at lunch, abandon him by evening, 'cause they're only available for an hour and then they're leaving, again, we all have work to do—'I wish I could be here for you'—fuckin' hear that enough times and it starts feeling like a lie they tell to keep you from offing yourself. There's a specific kind of Hell that rich-dick assholes trap themselves in, and it's called courtesy, where everything is said as a segue into some dumb bullshit Tony couldn't care less about. He'll have one moment of vulnerability the night after. It'll last an hour at most. He'll reach out and someone will be there to hold him. And then they will go. It's no one's fault, really. Tony wants them to go. It'd just be better if they went. Because he can't be around other people without signing away just a little bit of his autonomy. They'd insist that he eat, or sleep, or drink something. And God knows they won't take no for an answer, we're only human after all. Yeah, right. He's gonna be alone. Better off alone.

autistic peter parker || headcanon collection
happy disability pride!! get ready for me to be annoying again and talk about The Autistic Peter Parker Headcanon™️ (I was gonna post these sooner, but @archerinthevents beat me to the punch, that little rascal)
because of his spider powers, peter can’t thermoregulate, and this exacerbates his sensory issues when it comes to temperature.
peter is sensory avoidant, and after being in an overstimulating place for too long he tends to shut down. his favorite environment is similar to a spider’s— dark, slightly cold, and secluded. sometimes he’ll curl up on the ceiling in the corner of the lab. (YOU BETTER SEND ME THAT PILLOW FORT FIC ACE)
peter is high-masking. few people in his life know that he’s autistic (may, tony, ned, MJ, pepper, happy, etc.) and he really doesn’t want the information getting out because he just knows Flash would use that as more ammo to make fun of him. (It eventually does get out, and he does.)
when peter goes into verbal shutdown, he and Tony simply talk in other ways, like ASL and Morse code. (I’ve talked about this at length before and I will never stop talking about it thanks)
peter has a habit of eating the same foods daily, and has a hard time breaking this routine. Tony keeps his favorite snacks stocked at the lab and makes sure not to push him too far out of his comfort zone when it comes to trying new things, but still makes him try new food every once in a while.
peter has comfort shows, most of which are kids shows or shows with repetitive premises. His particular favorites are Ninjago, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Henry Danger, and Mythbusters. He usually watches them when there’s no one else around because he’s afraid of people making fun of him, but after a really hard mission he and Tony start watching one of his shows together and Peter realizes that Tony won’t make fun of him. Tony even shows Peter the Transformers cartoon from the 80s, and that becomes another comfort show.
Peter’s meltdowns look more like either shutting down or blowing up in anger/agitation. do with that information what you will
peter is very light sensitive due to his enhanced senses and gets headaches constantly.
I will reblog with a part 2 if I think of any more :)

I love the concept of Peter referring to Tony as Mr. Stark just becoming its own thing. To the point where it doesn’t even register as a term of respect, but starts to sound like a separate name entirely like “misastark” or something.
Like when Tony hears someone else call him Mr. Stark, he hears it as “oh they’re trying to be respectful” but from Peter it’s just what the kid calls him.
I also think it would be funny if Peter started calling him Mr. Stark to be respectful at first, but then Tony was like “please just call me Tony at this point I beg” and Peter kept calling him it to annoy him but then he just ended up getting too used to it and Tony just becomes Mr. Stark to him.
They always call each other “Mr. Stark” and “kid” and that’s just how they operate and I find that cute.
They never call each other their actual names unless it’s something serious (like one of them dying oop)

Yayayaya colored finally!!! Definitelyyyy takes me more time to do but it was worth it, I love this chapter and I’m a huge fan of filling in the gaps with gestures or hidden things that speak volume but aren’t necessarily said. This scene does that! And we need a lil fluff right now with what’s bound to come 😭💔

Tony holding his own open casket funeral as he died of palladium poisoning. He got the best concealer he could find and covered the evidence of his own deterioration. He strategically planned his outfits to hide his slowly deteriorating state without making it obvious hes hiding something. He got very familiar with what his face is supposed to look like, so that he can more accurately paint it on without the eye bags and stress wrinkles and visible decay. He made sure he looked perfect on display, no evidence of the internal shut down.
Nobody needs to see that. They love him too much. It would hurt them.
The routine gets passed down to Peter, staring in the mirror after the very first incident of waking up in a spider-web. He’s tracking his own face and trying to decide if it’s worth hiding the visible exhaustion.
He decides to. Spending a bit of his meager savings on makeup in the hopes of still recognizing the decaying man in the mirror.
Just because nobody knows him doesn’t mean he should let them see how bad it’s gotten. It’s the same thing Tony told himself.
