every chapter of deltarune has a secret npc who only appears if you leave and re-enter the room 1225 times while you have a bagel in your seventh inventory slot and the npc is a sentient doorknob and when you talk to them the music cuts out and they’re like “who’s that whispering in the trees, it’s two sailors and they’re on leave, pipes and chains and swinging hands, who’s your daddy, yes i am” and then within four hours there’s a thirty minute long video on youtube titled “ASGORE IS FRIEND??? DADDY THEORY EXPLAINED” and it already has 100,000 views and then a year later people call the next chapter disappointing because it was focusing too much on developing the main characters instead of explaining the doorknob guy

Boundary: A restriction on content or material in order to adhere to someone's comfort level. IE a character only able to be portrayed in a manner the creator/author/actor pre approves of. Character cannot be displayed or implied to smoke cigarettes, for instance.

Another example may be an author not wanting fan-works to be created of their works at all.

Examples of Private/Cultivated Space: Source material wikipedia page, creator/author's community discord, events such as in person conventions and meet and greets with the boundary setter.

Examples of public/fandom spaces: Social media sites, private fan community discords, zine coordination threads, private blogs, physical material shared through mail or hand gifted to other fans.

(Side definition, RPF: 'Real Person Fiction'. Depictions made using the likeness and identity of a real person, with or without consent from the depicted party. Examples: A story about the Beatles going on a road trip. A comic strip about your high school math teacher getting tied to the rail road tracks.
