‘Carlos loves me’
John Lennon dimple appreciation please (credit to whoever made the gifs)
A very specific image genre of Johnny… with a focus on his eyes and smile. I’m feeling sappy and sad, having watched an interview of Mark David Chapman recounting the night of the murder.

john, george, brian and paul - 1967
little freaks
John & Paul: Do I love you, oh my do I love.
John & Paul: Honey, 'deed I do.
John: Yes, I do Paul
(This is a cover of 'Deed I Do by Ruth Etting)
Then John sings In the Middle of an Island by Tony Bennett but changes the lyrics.
In the middle of an island In the middle of the ocean You and I beneath the moonlight With just the monkeys and the palm trees
In the middle of an island When it's time to do some kissin' Plenty time for lotsa lovin' And walkin' barefoot in the sand
Though there's no island at all Just a picture on my wall My darlin', how I wish we could be (I wish that we could be)
In the middle of an island In the middle of the ocean You and I forever, darlin' In a paradise for two (In a paradise for two) Though there's no island at all Just a picture on my wall My darlin', how I wish we could be (I wish that we could be) In the middle of an island In the middle of the ocean You and I forever, darlin' In a paradise for two (In the middle of the ocean on an island kissin' you)
In The Middle of an Island by Tony Bennett (1957)

Do I want you? Oh my, do I? Honey, 'deed I do? Do I need you? Oh my, do I? Honey, 'deed I do? I'm glad that I'm the one who found you That's why I'm always hangin' around you Do I love you? Oh my, do I? Honey, 'deed I do? Honey, 'deed I do Hmm, honey, deed I do I'm glad that I'm the one who found you That's why I'm always hangin' around you Oh, do I love you? Oh my, do I? Honey, 'deed I do? Ah, 'deed I do

John & Paul fluff their hair behind the scenes, Shea Stadium (1965)
Two of Us hits way harder when you start looking at the get back sessions as john and paul couple's therapy/reconciliation honeymoon
No wait but Can We Talk About This?
So: One of the saddest things about late Beatles music is how much less prevalent John and Paul's wonderful harmonizing is in the songs. Their voices complementing each other MADE so many of their early to mid-period songs. Please Please Me; I Want To Hold Your Hand; A Hard Day's Night; If I Fell; I Don't Want To Spoil The Party; Drive My Car; the middle eights of We Can Work It Out, I'll Follow The Sun, Norwegian Wood; that one moment on I'm Only Sleeping and I'm Looking Through You. Also the lovely trade offs when Paul takes over lead in John songs to reach the higher notes like Any Time At All, or their straight-up duets like Wait. Even midtier songs like Tell Me What You See are heightened by their combined presence.
They're still technically harmonizing by the White Album, but it rarely feels nearly as intimate. Suddenly it's no longer John and Paul supporting each other, it's one of them singing and the other providing background vocal support, not easily distinguished as that individual's voice.
And here we have Two Of Us, a song which I admittedly haven't really warmed up to because it's missing well – a bit of warmth (IMO). The singing is unsteady, their voices don't quite fit like a glove anymore (probably more rehearsal time would have taken care of this), but here's the thing: They're trying again. They're back on the same mic. Maybe they'll never make it home but they're on their way. It's so close.
bro’s got his brotherwife with him now, can’t be bothered to celebrate with Pep and the players anymore 😌😌😌 especially his brotherwife’s on SPECTACULAR FORM
cant even do this omg look at themmm
Hi! Aside from whatever John and Paul had going on, do you think it’s possible that Yoko had a crush on Paul? I’ve never read anything specifically on this, but on Dakota Days, Yoko goes on a rant to say that she feels that Paul (and Mick Jagger) is attracted to her, and that she initially approached John to get closer to Paul. There’s also Sandford’s McCartney biography where he writes that Yoko and Paul had sex the first time they met in London. There’s also the fact that Yoko said that John would have a fit if she sat too close to one of the other Beatles in the studio, « especially Paul », and Paul saying that John warned him off Yoko once. Do you think it’s possible that Yoko played on John’s jealousy and rivalry with Paul by talking to him about her feelings for his best friend (all in the name of total honesty, of course)? That doesn’t mean that I don’t think john also had erotic feelings for Paul himself, btw
I read a quote from amoralto about Paul and Yoko hooking up when she initially came by his house asking for the manuscripts. I remember it said that he went up the stairs with her "arm in arm" which may come from that Sandford biography. So it sounds like there's a good possibility that he fucked her and then dumped her on the pavement. I remember that passage from Dakota Days, I also remember that she asked Charlie to do a reading to figure out if Paul was attracted to her and he said something diplomatic like "he appears to have moved on from his attraction to you."
I don't think Yoko really had a crush on Paul though. Her whole thing was that she wanted a patron to promote her art and make her a lot of money. She shot for the moon and nabbed a Beatle. If John had dumped her then she would have moved on to George and Ringo and worked on one of them. She got lucky in that John was a simple mind that was easy to dominate, who didn't ask questions, and wanted a getaway vehicle away from his old life. He was easy for her to pick up, use, put back on a shelf, keep in storage, etc.
When it comes to Paul and Yoko...idk. I think they're actually attracted to each other but they're too similar for it to be much more than that. I don't think Yoko has a crush on Paul or on Mick. Mick Jagger actually visited the Dakota building a lot and even tried to communicate with John a few times. Mick always got the same answer which was "leave me alone." Eventually Mick stopped trying. But that's important because Yoko wanted it that way; she deliberately kept John isolated from his family and friends. AFAIK John communicated with Mick through handwritten notes pushed under the door, not vocally or face to face.
Even John's little sisters, Julia Baird and Jackie, could not get through to John. Julia tried calling the Dakota several times, usually got Yoko who would tell her to buzz off, and then she hung up. Yoko also sold Julia's house out from under her to the Salvation Army, which was the house that John had purchased for her and Jackie to live in while he was still married to Cynthia. Julia once cornered Yoko at a memorial for John in Liverpool and Yoko basically peed herself and ran away when Julia confirmed that she knew Yoko had stolen the house and sold it to keep it out of Julia and Jackie's hands. The only recounting Julia has of actually talking to John on the phone was when she managed to get through to someone who wasn't Yoko and John made her jump through a bunch of dumb questions to verify her identity; she almost hung up out of frustration and he had to apologize profusely to her over the phone. They never talked again IIRC. Yoko used similar tactics with Mick and Paul. David Bowie managed to wriggle his way in and Ringo did too but Mick and Paul were persona non grata. She absolutely did not want anyone who was John's peer to come in and talk to him and she did her best to keep him separated from his family members.
So I think that Yoko didn't really have a genuine crush on Paul or Mick. She was deeply worried that one day, one or both of them would come to the door and shove their way in and convince John to leave. The rant about them secretly being in love with her is more of an attempted power move on her part, if she can convince herself that they're secretly in love with her or scared of how attracted they are to her, then she can trick herself into thinking that she actually has power over them. This was only possible because Paul and Mick had quietly given up on John and were no longer willing to break their backs to try and help him. She misunderstood this and thought it was about her when the truth is that she was actually very incidental to the situation. John could have come under anyone's power because he was always looking for someone to take care of him and make his decisions for him (until Bermuda happened at least.)
I do think Yoko played on John's jealousy a bit but the truth is all of John's girlfriends did this. I think they must have thought it was cute when John would get jealous and possessive because it was a sign that he actually wanted them around. May Pang talks about how she would hang out with other musicians while John was recording in LA and that he got grumpy about it, her narration makes it sound like she thought it was sweet. Paul also played on John's jealousy with Jane Asher, Peggy Lipton, Linda Eastman, and even carried it a step further by traipsing all over Europe with Mal and Robert Fraser.
John was "just a jealous guy" as per the song and I think that the kind of people who wanted to be with him are the sort of people who find that quality charming and engaging. Everyone else who doesn't find a jealous guy charming stayed the hell away, hence why John and Jane never got along and why John and Cynthia never worked out. (The reason John picked her up and smashed her head against a set of exposed pipes was because she had been dancing with Stuart the night before, and John's jealousy couldn't handle it. She left him for a long time after that because she didn't like dating a jealous guy. John had to turn that shit way down to get her back.) I think that this even plays a role in Paul's marriage to Heather Mills, I wouldn't be surprised if she was a jealous person and he liked that kind of attention. Many people enjoy the drama of having a jealous partner and how it makes them feel wanted.
It wouldn't surprise me if Yoko played that up to keep John's attention on her but the simple truth is that she knew he wasn't going anywhere. She was his heroin supplier after all, and the bond between an addict and their dealer is created from an alloy of adamantium and mithril. It is totally unbreakable until the addict decides to walk away. So while she may have played on John's jealousy, I think it was more because she liked the attention, not out of any specific maneuver.

excuse me?? what do you mean you’ve named your new album after a street that dead ends inside John Lennon airport? what???
the thing about falling in love as a teenager is that everything is just so massive, so monumental. as it happens, it feels as though nothing could ever be more meaningful, and in a certain sense, it’s true. the rawness of youth can’t be replicated. nothing is new forever.
but as you learn and grow and find your footing, that deep and dizzying rush settles into something gentler, more navigable. the loves that come after simply cannot be measured against the first, because they’re so different— you’re so different.
now imagine you have tangible evidence suggesting your first love was actually as powerful as it felt. imagine people across the planet, across decades, are in awe of what you did together. imagine you’re Paul McCartney, and your first love literally changed the world. imagine comparing everyone to John Lennon.
