I was honestly a bit nervous to draw and post this one, because it's such a deep rooted and genuine issue I struggle with. It's a thing I wish could be fixed in some way, but I feel pretty comforted it resonated with so many others too

click on the tile east of me to move me to the dragon's cave to save the princess

the princess has started exploring the world and learning how to fly. her mother is guiding her the best she can but she never learned to fly either. they're learning how to fly together

a yellow-eyed raven noticed them both. it taught them how to glide first and is now showing them how to move their wings in flight to stay in the sky

they haven't quite got it yet but they're all trying their best. the princess offered the raven some food as they took a break.

the raven got one of its friends to teach the princess how to hunt fish in the river, and she figured out how to use her newly acquired magic to cook them. they're all sharing a well-cooked meal now

the princess is still getting used to being dragon-sized. she walked into a wall because it had an entrance that she used to fit into before she turned into a dragon and laughed about it

they have discovered that if they combine their newly* acquired magic they can revive dead plants. they are using this to help the local bee population — which is unique to the area and has been on the decline within the last few decades — among many other insect populations

she has now decided that she prefers the title "the prince" because she thinks it sounds cooler than princess, and because it reminds her of her brother. the prince wonders what happened to her brother.

i went back to the kingdom to tell them what happened and they put out posters saying i was kill on sight because i failed to save their [prince] no matter how much i explained to them that she was happier. they didn't believe me when i told them the queen was a dragon too now. i ran back out as quickly as i could. at least the queen and her daughter won't kill me

the prince has learned how to use her wings when dancing to balance herself better and taught her mom too. i've noticed that none of the wild animals are scared of dragons? she looks so happy when she's prancing around in the meadow with them. even the smallest mice and ants join them in dancing and prancing

the prince has taken great interest into carving magical runes with her claws. she has discovered that dragon claws are magical, which allows dragons to cast spells, and this is why she could cast magic with her wings; because they're clawed. we have all however, discovered that dragons cannot actually breathe fire, and that it is instead fire magic conjured near their mouth to make it look like they're breathing fire.

there is blood on the floor. it's a mix of my own and another warrior's. the queen protected me from someone trying to claim the bounty on my head. i feel guilty. neither of us needed to be hurt had i not returned to the kingdom telling the royal family anything about this. if only the king wasn't so ruthless and cruel in his beliefs....

the prince learned how to heal wounds with her magic. she's learning so quickly it's honestly impressive. i wish i could learn magic with her and her mom, but i've never been able to wield any sort of magic myself

she's learned how to make rune circles. she's doing a really good job and conjuring and combining spells and is showing her mom how to do it too. she's having so much fun. i don't think i've ever seen someone be so happy before.

she told me she's been going through an old handbook from a wizard long gone for spells and that she found a transfiguration spell. she offered to use it on me once she learns how to use it without issue, but i'd have to know exactly what i want to turn into if she were to use it on me

the prince has been taking really well to being a dragon. she's learned how to hunt and is so so good at it, she's even better than the best hunters from the kingdom. not to mention the meals she makes out of her hunts! they're so much better than what the cooks could prepare too! so many skills she never got to use when living in the kingdom. i'm so happy for her

i asked her what was possible with a transfiguration spell and she told me "anything as long as you're sure of it". i know i'd be better off if i was something else, but i don't know what i want to be yet. i'll think about it. for now i think i will continue watching them have fun in the meadow.

i've seen her use her newly learned transfiguration spell on herself. she's now covered in feathers, and her new feathers and remaining scales have an iridescent sheen to them. she looks almost angelic in the hues of sunset.

i have taken up time making satchels that fit the queen and prince without getting in the way of their wings (even if they haven't learned how to fly yet, the raven is still trying its best to teach them). there is not any dragon friendly apparel, and i don't have much else to do, because i was never skilled in hunting or preparing food. i've managed to make a big leather satchel for the prince so she can bring back more things every time she goes exploring.

i finished a small satchel for myself, and went outside. it's night time, so nobody from the kingdom should see me outside here picking a bunch of flowers and digging out various small trinkets from the ground. there's so many beautiful flowers here that i'd never seen before.

....i found someone else out here. i recognise them. they were exiled from the kingdom a few years ago. they told me that the entire thing was a lie. i told them to quiet down because they were bleeding like hell and covered in wounds. i recognised the wounds as being caused by the weapons of the kingdom's generals.

i rushed them back to the cave as quickly as possible. they freaked out when they saw the queen and prince since they're dragons, but i held them still so the prince could heal them and they passed out while she was carving the runes to cast the spell. i'll try to explain the whole situation to them in the morning

they woke up and i told them how we got here, and that the two dragons are the previous queen and now-prince of the kingdom but they ran away and got turned into dragons, and how much happier the prince is. they were still wary until the prince got back with a massive catch and made a really good meal out of it. they said they hadn't eaten this well in years and thanked her

vieno (the person i found outside— thats their name) was talking about how they wish they could just exist in peace because they're tired of fighting for their life, that maybe they could be someone else so people won't recognise them as "the exile", and i told them that the princess knew a transfiguration spell. they looked at me as if i was a ghost before they went off on a tangent about what they wanted to be, and i told them they should tell the prince when she returns about it.

when i got back from collecting minerals in the river today it seemed like vieno had made their decision. they're now an antlered, lizard-tailed and four front-legged wolf. i didn't know that was something you could be! i never thought you could just, make something up to be, i thought transfiguration spells could only make you into something that already existed. its really cool though, they seem much happier like this

i've made some new apparel for everyone. the prince wanted a cloak, the queen a dress and vieno a shirt. i used some of the prince's shed feathers and scales for everything to make sure it's all durable enough. i didn't have the dye i wanted for vieno's shirt though, blue dye is very valuable and i can't make it myself, but the prince knew a spell that could change the color of something, so now vieno has a very cool blue shirt that they're very happy with

a scouting party was sent out to look for vieno after their last sighting. i heard them shouting that they'd found a sign of them "somewhere over here", but they never found vieno because the scared vieno they were looking for no longer exists, instead replaced by a fantastical wolf who is very happy to have found refuge in this cave as themself.

vieno told me they'd like if i slept beside them because it's nice to be able to be near someone else they know they can trust now. they're very soft so i don't mind, it's better than just laying on top of the scruffy, mostly leather blankets i've managed to make. i'm thinking of making another blanket of roughly the same size so i can sew them together and fill them with feathers and other soft material to make it more comfortable for both of us

the prince has learned how to cast the classic elemental breath spell most dragons use. she's having a lot of fun spewing ice and water on everything. she looks so happy.

the yellow-eyed raven and its friends are enjoying daily baths from the water magic the prince has learned how to handle extremely well, even if they could just bathe in the river. though i guess company is always nice, especially when its someone you know.

the prince's cloak tore a little on a thornbush earlier today, and while i was fixing it she told me that she could just fix it herself with magic, but really respected my craft and liked watching me work, and said how much she liked how i fixed tears in fabric by making them into little constellations. i never considered that was unusual, my dad taught me how to do that and i've just done it ever since.

the trees are starting to shift color to a bright orange. it's turning autumn and the wind is getting colder. the prince has not quite yet learned to fly yet and neither has the queen. i've made more blankets out of all the leather from the prince's catches and her shed feathers, and everyone seems very keen on making them all into a nest and sharing the space to sleep besides eachother. it's nice.

the raven and its flock have joined us in our makeshift nest of blankets and pillows. i have never held a bird, let alone slept with one ontop of me, but they're very soft. there's around 15 of them and they all have something weird about them— one of them has a second, smaller pair of vestigial wings, another has a weird tail shape, so on. i suppose they found comfort in eachother's similarity of being different.

the prince accidentally cracked one of her claws off, but let me have it so i could use it to cast magic if i ever wanted to learn it. i don't know if i want to take her up on her offer, i don't think i could do magic as good as she does, but i'll think about it. she's been really enjoying the various constellations i've sewn on her cloak to patch up the tears, though, so at least i'm good for something

i lost my blade while defending myself against another warrior looking for me. the prince asked if i had decided if she should use the transfiguration spell on me since i'm so recognisable and warriors will keep going out to find me to claim the bounty put on my head, but i told her i wasn't sure. truth is i just don't think i deserve such freedom. at least not right now.

i've been spending many sundowns recently simply sitting outside as the light and seasons slowly change, and the prince made me a new blade! it's much sharper and easier to wield. this will make getting all the leather from her hunts merely trivial.

it's winter now. the only footprints you see in the snow outside the kingdom's walls are animals and only the very rare guard. i didn't know so few people ever went outside the walls? it's either that or they only go out on the two sides we can't see from the cave and meadow. that feels so.... unusual? they boasted about having trade routes northways, with glenmoore, but was that just a lie?

the fairy healed up all good thanks to the enchanted thread and was able to go back home, and the prince has been teaching me how to read and write runes. i never knew magic was such an intricate language, it's so cool how she knows all of this and can use it so well.

the prince learned to fly because of the ravens!!!! she looks so happy!!! she's doing her best to teach her mom too! i can't help but wonder how it feels to be flying in the sky, it looks like it feels so freeing.

vieno has been having so much fun running around in the snow as their new self. they shovel snow around with their antlers and they get into snowball fights with everyone else and it all looks so fun. i just sit and watch by the cave entrance because of how cold it is, i'm not built for the cold. vieno's wintercoat makes them look majestic, they shimmer so beautifully in the moonlight.

i've been carving little creatures out of wood with the blade the prince made me. she enchanted the blade to make sure any wood it touches is cleared from bugs that eat it to make sure none of my carvings are broken, and vieno and the ravens run outside when they notice i'm running out of wood to carve things out of. they're all so nice, i don't even know what i did to deserve ending up here with such a nice group.

the snow is starting to clear up and the prince is basking in the sun. she looks so pretty. the iridescent sheen on her scales and feathers looks so otherwordly when the sun haloes her head.

someone suggested i could make a sewing needle out of the claw i got from the prince to see if i could stitch runes with it, so i cut out a small piece of it to carve a sewing needle out of. the prince suggested that i could try a spell that made a piece of clothing always fit whoever was wearing it no matter what, so i stitched the runes for that into an old jacket my dad gave me and it worked!

i asked the prince if there was any spells that i could stitch into the jacket to make sure i was never cold when wearing the jacket and she immediately pulled up a page in the wizard's handbook she has of an exact spell for that. i can now join them outside in the cold mornings when they're having fun!
