#nowplaying #styx greatest hits from 1995. I was never a big Styx fan but they were all over the radio when I was a kid and so most of these songs have some memory association with them. Of the 16 tracks, 8 were top 10 @billboard hits, and another 4 were top 40 which is impressive by any measure. “Babe” was.middle school and high school dance standard, and tracks like “blue collar man” and “too much time on my hands” and “Lorelei we’re polished #pop gems. Yesterday #thepolice’s debut #outlandosdamour turned 41, released nov 2 1978. After the failure of their initial single and the reduction of the band to a trio after briefly being a quartet the band recorded this classic album, which after a slow start and singles #Roxanne and #cantstandlosingyou failing to find much success they finally reached the charts in mid 79. Perhaps the ultimate #Halloween band along with #bauhaus and #thecramps they combined a love of #shlock #horror movie and #comicbook imagery with samples, beatboxes and occasional guitar to create a sound that while owing a lot to #AliceCooper was entirely their own. Happy 40th the #thespecials debut album released this day in 1979. The #coventry based racially integrated band was a stunning breath of fresh air amongst the gloom of late #70s #england. They led a revival of #ska #music that saw several other bands including #the eat and #madness reach the charts as well. Their label #twotone was the driving force and for two years the band enlivened the #uk scene with their upbeat but politically and socially aware tunes while also covering #bluebeat classics such as #rudyamessagetoyou. #elviscostello produced the album and basically just recorded their live sound. The duo had reunited after 11 years to perform this concert to raise funds for the repair and upkeep of #centralpark which much like the rest of #newyork had fallen into disrepair. The concert was a huge success with more than 500,000 people attending. #venicebeach. A longstanding #bohemian community, full of 2nd and 3rd generation #hippies and other refugees from the mainstream. Like a lot of popular #tourist destinations, the original allure is often obscure by the constant hustle for the fast buck: Knick knacks, palm readers, sketch artists etc all fighting for your attention. I came here mainly to see the area where #thedoors got their start. It was here that #jimmorrison allegedly bumped into former film school classmate #raymanzarek and after Morrison showed him some lyrics he had written they decided to start a band.
