I ♡ Moviezzz!
Okay guys, this is kinda a pt.2 of my last movie post. Usually when I watch a movie I just contribute to the endless heap of unfunny one-liners on letterboxd. Something about how *insert actor* is hot or blah blah. But when I experience an unusually strong emotion, I take it to my secret hideaway under the bridge with the trolls and goblins, and I puke up my thoughts into a blog post to lure unsuspecting travellers under the bridge.
I seldom find movies that make my visual receptors go totally berserk the way Less Than Zero, by Marek Kanieveska did. I felt like I was on more coke than Rdj watching it. A lot of reviews for the movie were quite low, most of them cited that the movie was an inaccurate portrayal of the book of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis. I've never read the book, so my opinion is based on only the movie as a standalone work.
I really don't know what to say other than this movie is one of the most visually beautiful I've ever seen. I hear a lot of people today talk about how we're in a "colour grading epidemic". With movies like Wicked that seem to have the contrast turned all the way down, I have to agree that so many recent works look sterile. This movie though, is like the most awesome pallet cleanser, its my little oasis in a desert of low contrast mirages. And I don't just mean the contrast is higher, its just like the way it looks is indescribable. Like imagine you're a horse and you take a bite out of the most perfect slightly underripe macintosh apple, thats this movie. I seriously don't know what to say, I watched it yesterday and decided to sit on it overnight cause I was just at a loss for words at how beautiful it was. I thought maybe overnight I could wrap my head around how sick this movie looks, but I woke up today and still the only way I can think to describe it is eyegasm.
Also little side tid-bit, I was really impressed with how good the sweat looked in this movie. I've noticed a trend in newer releases is just making every character drenched in sweat 24/7, but I think the way it's overused takes away from its emphasis. When I watch a new movie I just feel like they hired someone to walk around set with a spray bottle and make sure all the actors are soaked from collarbone up.
I know that my comments are almost purely about visuals, I swear the story was good too. This was a little bit of a shorter movie-thoughts post than my last, but I still hope u ladies enjoyed !! (,;o;,)
Update: I JUST FOUND IT CAME OUT ON MY FUCKING BIRTHDAY!? The world works in wonderful ways ig :DDDDDDDDD
