HI, I'M FUN :DDD
This is a mainly Failboat lore-centric blog, though I may squish my other interests with the Failboat lore to see what happens. I'll usually be talking about my headcanons and theories, with art sometimes because I've gone too far down the rabbit hole.
...specifically a very Rapper Failboat-shaped rabbit hole. He's my (dis)comfort character and I will NOT shut up about him and his lore. If you wanna ask me a question regarding him (or something else /nf), I'd be down!
DISCLAIMER: I'm a really dense person and may be oblivious to some of the stuff I say/do. So if I say/do something stupid, I apologise in advance, and PLEASE let me know and correct me.
Also, just gonna put this here just in case: do NOT plug my stuff into any sort of generative AI program or website. Ever. And DNI if you support that kind of thing too.

It's the extremely common consensus among this fandom that Season 2 is superior to Season 1 in most respects, having more developed characters, more memorable comedic and emotionally resonant scenes, and a more unique and thought-out plot. Slightly. It is still a Miitopia playthrough again.
But there's one category in which I think opinions sway towards S1, in my experience - The NPCs filling up the Mii cast.
They were initially something Daniel Failboat was quite excited about the existence of, giving him the opportunity to give relevance to his other Mii creations and more opportunities to make new ones, but it became apparent that they weren't nearly as prevalent in the game's structure as they may seem, and the process of deciding their roles generally grows less and less important as the series progresses, especially since they were almost all directly repeated in S2, which gives an advantage to S1 in that they would naturally be more effective in their first showing.
However, I'm going to test that idea today by comparing the two season's lineups of Mii NPCs. I'll split them into four categories: Greenhorne, Neksdor, Realm of the Fey, and Karkaton / Otherworld (as in, the roles relevant across the story, not just the first three regions). The filler arc NPCs will not be counted, but let's be honest, the Deku thing alone lets S1 beat out S2.
Greenhorne:
Probably the most balanced argument there is to be had, but I'm instinctually leaning towards Season 1.
Season 2's main selling point is King Elmonster, and the rest of the Muppet family tree. It's certainly a creative design, and carries two quite iconic qualities outside of that, the echoing demonic voice and the re-contextualised use of the royal "we". Princess Kermit being woefully betrothed to Prince Miss Piggy and wanting to leave her for Nobleson Groose is an absolutely inspired casting choice, playing off the dynamic of the actual characters and twisting it into an incidental commentary on compulsive heterosexuality in the weirdest way possible is exactly in the spirit of the series, taking an already comedic basis and making it even more absurd by applying a coherent narrative arc on the fly. The village NPCs aren't half-bad either, the Trollface as the snarky asshole is particularly noteworthy for living up to his role of being an obtrusive annoyance that actively benefits Shrimp's character arc, through being yet another bully beating her down she can power through against with her new loved ones' support.
But it's hard to beat the energy Season 1 comes in with. It's the peak of Daniel Failboat's passion for casting the NPCs, and he brings out a star-studded lineup to fill up the village cast, which is somewhat detrimental for their lore when Sharc-Chan becomes retroactively important, but the points remains that he brought various incredibly charming designs to the forefront in the NPC cast. Moom, Paul, Bob Loss, Tim Rob Ed, Cpt. Afraid, and Sharc-Chan herself of course, all classic characters who establish the series' identity perfectly from the start (or, rather, the closest to the start they were allowed to be). Additionally, the royal family NPCs are where Failboat spent his "Miis of some of his closest friends" stocks, and not only are Geegee and Joji very charming fits for their parts, but Prince Etce establishes some absolutely wonderful trends in Failtopia character-building. Firstly, the whole "Princess with a secret truth nobody can figure out" trend that gets fleshed out with Rose and Bo's whole thing, itself being a showcase of Daniel Failboat's willingness to add layers to any random superficial idea, and secondly, the queer-friendliness of the series, not only with the Princess and the Nobleson being an MLM couple in both seasons just because, but in the trans-coding of Prince Etce's storyline, being pressured from every angle into the role of a straight woman whilst trying to express himself as a gay man. These are supposed to be goofy caricatures of unrelated real people, at the end of the day, but they carry such enthusiasm in their development that I think they really sell S1 as having that additional flair of a more developed comedic idea. Just try to ignore Prince hhhhhhh
Neksdor:
Not a balanced discussion, it goes to Season 2 on this one. There's a few reasons I structured the discussion like this, and one of them is that I can give S2 the clear edge in something.
Granted, there's a lot less to talk about here than with Greenhorne. Season 1 has the unfortunate affliction of its only two major NPCs (Prince hhhhhhh and more importantly the Genie Skoop) being caricatures of real people who then turned out to be problematic. As with the royal family, there's a lot of pretty obvious distinctions in characterisation and design between them, but it's certainly a sour taste to add on to the fact that they're... not the most interesting in the first place? The villagers are pretty good, the Samona Lisa and Ridleonardo da Vinci jokes are quite amusing and Prickly Husband Waluigi has become a surprisingly noteworthy figure, but they have the least to talk about compared to the other two S1 villages.
Season 2's village isn't stellar either, for the most part. Ms. Frizzlisa is incidentally memorable for her fight being so significant for Erica's development (and implying that Erica, Chi, and C!Fail are all checking out her boobs), the Video Game Character The Heavy joke is particularly heavily emphasised for some reason, and YOUWAKEUP as the rambling old man is perfectly cursed, but the star of the show obviously comes in the form of the GUN siblings. The GUNie is an incredibly lore-significant character, the driving force of Orion's backstory despite him not even being in this arc, having transformed his wife into a Cream Soda Dr. Pepper can before the events of S2 and motivating Orion to adventure in revenge. By necessity of Miitopia's structure, he can't succeed in even meeting him, and despite how unbelievably hard he tries to fulfil his wishes, Mar can't kill him either. Instead, we see the GUNie reunite with his estranged sibling of somewhat ambiguous gender, and actively work towards his redemption despite the mark of brutal violence being plastered across both of their character designs and voices. Most of that is unintentional depth, but it's there nonetheless, and the same plot beats that Skoop and Muffet went through hit so much harder with these two. Also, we have Prince Miss Piggy, she's still fun.
Realm of the Fey:
Season 1. This one shouldn't need much convincing at all, but it's a fun topic to discuss, so I'll do so anyway.
There is some meat behind the Horrifying Kirby Character Fab Faires as a concept, they actually tie into a major theme of Failtopia and the storylines of each party member fairly well, with the complications of them having extremely disturbing faces but still being helpful and kind heroes. Mar did everything he did in S1 because he hated his face, Bo's life is defined by her insecurity about her own, and Big Bill is on a mission to show empathy to those mistreated because of their face, mainly Shrimp to begin with, but the whole reason he joins The Incident is because he wants to do the same for Chat, who have an uncontrollable multi-face deciding their every move. Some of the party are instinctively judgemental of the sisters, particularly Bo who doesn't even consider herself to be on the hero's side, but co-operation with them is essential to the thematic point of accepting anyone regardless of biological abnormalities. With all of that said, though, they're mostly just here to be a shock value joke and I have genuinely nothing to say about the villagers.
Then, we have Season 1 with the HEY sisters. Also just a joke casting, with none of the potential / accidental thematic relevance of the S2 Fab Fairies, but a much more palatable and likeable concept, Navi and Daisy slot perfectly into their roles and Toad provides the perfect unhinged contrast to them while keeping in with the theme, the story building up to facing off against the Toad toad feels appropriate with the general off-kilter vibe of this entire arc. If the villagers were entirely forgettable in this season too, which would keep in line with this being the third round of them that doesn't fit the designed parallels the first two have, this would actually be a fairly balanced discussion between S1 and S2, but there's one small detail about the villager lineup in S1 that pushes it quite far above its predecessor - that being that the Green-Eyed Lady is somehow the most lore-relevant background NPC in the entire series. Rosalina is just a generic pre-generated Mii on the surface, and she would've been had the first party member not been Rose, but because the first party member was Rose, we get an absolutely necessary expansion on her lore, shifting the tone of her entire arc. Before this point, she was a tragically funny story of a young cosplayer with anxiety becoming pressured into absurd dedication to her role even in adulthood, but with the knowledge that she is actively disempowering the true Rosalina, depriving her of her magic, home and family, she becomes a much more morally questionable figure, and this is an intentional facet of her characterisation from here on out, that she is allowing her cosplayer's ego to be inflated and harming everyone around her as a result. It feels like just another layer to her convoluted lore in the moment, but it has a compelling lasting effect on the entire remainder of her story, and we have the NPC casting to thank for that.
Karkaton / Otherworld:
There's a lot to ruminate on here. Nothing that really provides an argument for Season 2 beating out Season 1, but there are certainly extremely interesting decisions to delve into, to where I'm actually going to structure this section very differently - instead of using one paragraph to cover an entire season's showing, each paragraph will cover the full discussion of a particular role.
First, the Great Sage. Obviously goes to S1's Kazoo Man, a dumb bit that isn't really committed to but extremely memorable nonetheless, an aged Kazoo Kid being the wise mentor everyone looks up to is classic Failtopia nonsense, as is him taking centerstage in the climax, he does indeed come across as a man who still carries the spirit of kindness and whimsy from his childhood. S2 has Peppa Pig. She was cast in the role entirely as a joke because the first episode wasn't planned to be canon, and Daniel Failboat just had to roll with it for the rest of the series. It's a funny juxtaposition to force such a random Mii to be intrinsically relevant, to the point where she gets a custom cutscene appearance when most party members don't, but I don't think any offence is taken from me saying that Kazoo Man was way more iconic and Peppa definitely wouldn't've had her role if it had been thought through.
As for the "Dark Lords", one just has a blatantly unfair advantage over the other. Hank and Screamith are cut from the same cloth in a very fun way, both being noise-making objects Daniel Failboat has IRL which make appearances in his content and are thus characterised. The continuity of Screamith's role in that regard is appreciated, he's a perfect fit for the same pathetic yet lovably determined civilian role that Hank previously filled, and I'd be very interested in him returning with a more prominent role. However, as should be obvious, he's at an extreme disadvantage compared to his opponent in this comparison. Hank was established as an antagonistic force within the Mii universe before the Miitopia series was even conceived of, he was the iconic figure of the Demons which Simple Bob hunted in the prequel streams, and the continuation of their emotional powerhouse of a rivalry is essential to S1 having any weight as an original narrative - and yet, Miitopia overrides everything Daniel Failboat was trying to sell by revealing Hank to have been possessed by the Dark Curse the whole time, which has absurd ramifications on the lore both before and after S1, and paints his character in several entirely new lights, somewhat inadvertently making him an incredible tragedy from start to end.
And finally, the Dark Curse. Mar was chosen for his role in S1 in exactly the same way he was chosen for S2, purely based on vibes of being a character generically applicable to any scenario of Daniel Failboat's, while still holding a distinct character of his own in his uncanny design and emotionally stunted personality. It makes perfect sense that Mar would be the man to resent his lack of presence and pitiful face, and turn to the inexplicable darkness residing within him in a purely self-destructive process; he doesn't know what to do with his life, and his arc in S2 revolves around him discovering his purpose in leading the team and settling into a fulfilling role for the first time in his life. He is driven to believe in life by the endless stupid optimism of the inspirited C!Failboat - and the same is somewhat true for the closest comparison to Mar in S2. The Dark Curse possessing Screamith is never revealed and that plot line was entirely forgotten, which is a shame and most certainly docks S2 some points, but what it does instead shatters all expectations in an truly undeniably iconic manner. Lee, the random face that attached themselves to Friend's head in Episode 1 and was seemingly corrupting their mind before abruptly disappearing in Karkaton and reappearing to usurp the Dark Curse in an entirely custom cutscene, not only rewriting the plot of Miitopia entirely, but the plot of Failboat Lore itself by revealing himself to be Hank, the Ex-Dark Lord who was proven to have been innocent the whole time, has now become the very demon he was purposed to be, motivated by the knowledge (which he maybe shouldn't have but could still plausibly attain) that Failboat is controlling their world and is too self-centred and ignorant to realise he's casting away lives as unfunny jokes. Hank would've been the most severely affected by all of this, he was puppetted as a genocidal monster for years on end and was primarily saved by the actions of C!Failboat himself, only to return to a life of nothingness after the fact. It tracks that he would be so heavily affected by what he learned, he was the prime example of being used as a prop and then entirely discarded by darker, more powerful forces, and just as his more innocent self yearned to be a fighter among these heroes, Darker Lord Lee aims to usurp them and destroy their neglected universe in pointless revenge, before Mar and C!Failboat show him that he can still fight to hold more of a purpose in his life, regardless of what depths one may have sunk to in the past. And this was all done halfway just because Daniel Failboat wanted to celebrate his channel anniversary. There's a lot to pick at here, it's arguably the most potentially polarising development in the entire series, and I am still giving this point to Mar in the end for its effective simplicity, but S2 deserves its flowers for the big swing it took.
Overall:
I think that last point I just made sums it all up quite nicely. Season 1's NPCs have more consistent good ideas across the board, Daniel Failboat's passion for the Miis and their creation comes across really well, and quite a lot of very charming and entertaining decisions are made with the cast. Season 2 was essentially a re-run of the same gimmick and therefore doesn't carry the same vibe the second time around, using slightly less original Miis and having slightly less memorable bits - but the season as a whole is intent on taking a bigger swing with its creative decisions than the first, which is typically evident in almost everything except the NPCs, and in cases like Elmonster, especially the GUNie, and especially Lee, it still has the same creative juices flowing through it, brought to an even higher scale.
In short, Season 2 does expectedly well for itself, but Season 1 has some really underappreciated solid elements and is worth watching I promise

So I've been wondering this one for a while- what is Mona's position in heaven exactly? I think you've mentioned that she's "in charge" at some point but in charge of what? Is it just the respawn system or other things too? Is she just. In charge of heaven as a whole 😭??
she’s basically like a front desk lady for heaven (think of LDG from bigtop burger but like not evil) (if you haven’t watched bigtop burger you should) she is important regardless when it comes to the respawn system
heritage n stuff is kinda her reason for being there in the first place
