dehumanization as horror is great and all but what about humanization as horror. Being forced into a role that was not made for you. Being forced to fulfill expectations that you can never achieve. Being made to exist in a society that so cruelly expects you to act in a way that is against your nature.
It's fun when the robot character in the sci-fi show gets cut in half because nobody working on this type of media knows anything about robotics and you never know what you're going to find inside. Green printed circuit boards? Meat and viscera, but like in a weird colour? Just a shitload of goo?
I especially like it when the robot appears to have realistic musculature which operates via contraction, suggesting some sort of fluid-driven or shape-memory-based actuation, and then it gets dismembered and a bunch of random gears and sprockets go flying everywhere.
I like to think my engineers foresaw the likelihood of my bisection and designed a clean break point with that in mind, leaving a small compartment filled with confetti

Fun fact- when I was a baby, my parents pretty quickly started suspecting I had autism. Like, before I even hit the year mark. They got me assessed four different times. the first one was when I was a baby, and they're pretty sure the only reason their concerns were brushed off is because I was a girl, and most people thought girls couldn't be autistic. Two times were when I was a toddler, after I was talking and walking, because they noticed I was happier to sort my toys than actually play with them. Both times, that doctor (different doctor from the first) firmly decided I couldn't possibly be autistic because- get this- I started talking early. And the fourth one was when I was getting ready to start preschool, because they were really like "Okay, there's no way she isn't, the doctors must have been wrong." And again, they were told I wasn't autistic because if I was, they would know already. Since I wasn't already diagnosed, I clearly wasn't autistic. It must just be from my brain injury
I am level two autistic. I am visibly autistic and always have been. And I still got misdiagnosed as not autistic four times for complete nonsense reasons.
So no, I don't think not being professionally diagnosed means one isn't autistic.
(Just for context: I'm white, not USAmerican, & my country is like 96% white)
So I'm a writer, and I know that describing Black (and brown) people's skin with food-related similes is generally a no-go. But I wanna know what is fine. Is describing someone's skin with woods (eg. mahogany, walnut, chestnut, rosewood, ebony (<- this one feels. Ickyyy)) fine? Is something like "onyx" or "jet" fine (sorta like how "alabaster" is semi-common for really pale people)? Would describing someone's skin like "she had chocolate skin" be fine as long as you don’t start writing a whole homeric comparison to the exact flavour and make of chocolate, or are all colour terms relating to food off the table?

Okay, this one is going to be half lesson
Everyone doesn't agree on that topic. Some people are Firm No Food Comparisons. I am not, I just think that if the only thing you can think of is "chocolate", there's a problem with how you perceive Black people. I personally enjoy the colors of spices and woods, and there's gemstones and fabrics. There's a LOT of options!
And ebony is not a bad word if you don't use it in the sexual connotation that has been attached to it. I don't think it's fair that we give ebony a bad name, when really it's the fault of racism that did that to her. Beautiful color.
