If the concept of tailed beasts hadn't been invented...
We all know the tailed beast & jinchuriki concept was only thought of around the start of Shippuden. If it were never introduced, then Gaara and Naruto would be the only monster hosts. Their trauma-bond would be even more special.
Don't get me wrong, I love Killer Bee and Fuu and all other jinchuriki, and of course I love how Kushina's story parallels Gaara's. But sometimes I just wonder what it would be like if GaaNaru were the only ones to have a monster sealed inside.
We all know Naruto is the only one who can understand Gaara's pain, but many people don't realize that it's true the other way too. Gaara is the only one who truly understands Naruto's pain. The pain of being a walking nuke, hated by everyone in a village he's supposed to serve, with no one to call family. Not even Bee felt the pain as deeply because he had Ay to call a caring protective brother from the start.
Naruto's ability to empathize with Gaara stems from his own experience, which is not shared by anyone else in their villages. Their bond is unique and irreplaceable. That's why it hits Naruto so hard when Gaara tells him his background. Naruto deeply believes he would've ended up like Gaara if not for Iruka.
Now imagine if GaaNaru were the only jinchuriki in the world. Then they'd be indisputably each other's only confidant. And more people would believe that Gaara is Naruto's real soulmate.
