"im not saying feminism is for everyone but-" the fuck? well im saying that. feminism is for everyone. yes even cishet men will benefit from feminism and cishet men should be feminists because cishet men are indeed harmed by the patriarchy; nowhere near to the extent that women are, but having a culture that is fully equal and anti-misogynist benefits everyone. have we forgotten that lifting up the disenfranchised people in society helps all of us as a collective? "im not saying that universal and unalienable human rights are for everyone but-" YES THE FUCK THEY ARE LOL
Feminism and feminists saved my life. Patriarchy is a deathtrap.
god it would be awesome if the human brain could just ignore an upsetting thing instead of constantly wandering back to it for no fucking reason
Hey, don’t cry. Free online database of Japanese folk lore
Might I add, free database of mostly European folklore and myths
A Book of Creatures by @a-book-of-creatures doesn't update these days but is another thing along these lines, really huge, fully illustrated all by the author and cites all sources
Free database of Native American folklore, sorted by tribe.
Free online catalog of African folklore and stories because everyone loves to forget we exist
for some chinese folktales, the Qing dynasty book "Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio" /Liaozhai Zhiyi/聊斋志异 by Pu Songling is a good start
i'd also recommend the shanhaijing/山海 or soushenji/搜神记 for books that are compilations
I feel like this is very cool so y'all should pay it a look and also

I cant even go and see some street food trucks without their damn menus having AI images on it. you have a camera. take photos of your goddamn food. I would rather see a photo of the most weirdly lit burger than the fake monstrosity you're showing me.

I swear to GOD I’m not vagueing my situation, but I made a post recently about books I was planning to read this year, and I find it very….. interesting that multiple people came into my inbox afterward to tell me that all the queer authors in the bunch had sinned. like maybe they had, I dunno. it wouldn’t stop me reading (I love Interview with the Vampire, I have Thoughts about Anne Rice, etc). but it is interesting that none of the non-queer authors merited this whisper campaign, despite some of them honestly deserving it. not saying anything outright here, just making an observation. listening and learning. you know
She's being so big and brave.
You can't tag something like that and then NOT say the deets of how it went!!!!
It went great. Several of my players are on Tumblr and were definitely familiar with comic (We Play over discord so I was able to use the comic images directly as a visual aid.)
Some context of the session: The party was trying to reach the estate of Count Los Feratu (Not actually a vampire despite what the name suggests, he's literally D&D Live action Gomez Addams) but first they have to cross The Lawn. To borrow from the late great comedian John Pinette when describing the castle lawn of Windsor Castle in England:
So the entire session was the party going through various non-lethal traps, skill challenges, and encounters. There were open grave pit-traps, grabby skeleton hands out of the ground, a troll construction worker yelling at them that the bridge is out of order, and a Hedge maze complete with a Minotaur Gardener they passed on the way out.
Now I had been intending to use these sphinxes for a while and was happy I could work them into this adventure. They would be the final obstacle before the party reached the house and the session would end. However at the last second I realized I hadn't picked names for them! So I borrowed the names of a mother/daughter duo from a She-Ra fanfiction I'm currently obsessed with. So the Mama is now Kitt and the Baby is Isha.
I will quote parts of the Discord chat directly.
There seems to only be one more gate between you and the main house. You just need to go past that large catlike statute and you'll be at the front door. ...Wait a second. Statues don't usually breathe do they. Kobold Wizard: "NNNOPE!"
From there I basically added the panels into the chat one at a time. At the reveal of shy baby sphinx Isha, the players were delighted and the characters immediately decided that 1. She was adorable, and 2. they were going to encourage the little darling to ask her riddle and hype her up as much as possible.
Paladin: "Good riddle, little one." Leonine Barbarian: “A dastardly clever one. We were lucky.” Isha perks up. "I did it Mama!" Kitt smiles at her daughter. "Yes you did. Now let's let the nice people pass."
All in all these two were a delightful capstone on a fun session. I'm sure I'll have the two make further appearances. I got various comments and compliments on using them from the players after the session.
YAY! Oh I'm so happy that sounds like it was so FUN!
shoutout to whoever stole my amazon package containing nothing but a single pair of shoelaces.
my notifications are once again devolving into a spirited debate about the ethics of actions that could potentially make someone uncomfortable, and at risk of sounding like someone about to get a lot of irate anons I think we're frankly giving way too to much moral weight to hypothetical discomfort
the thing about discomfort is that it's an extremely nebulous category that can be triggered by virtually anything and that's far too broad a category to have any inherent moral quality to it. like. my mom was mad uncomfortable when I stopped shaving. that didn't mean I was doing violence against my mom it just meant she needed to get over herself. many such cases it must be said.
there's not a single example I could give that's better than this
saw someone mix up "abysmal" and "abyssal" today, so as a reminder:
her skills are abysmal = she is unskilled
her skills are abyssal = her abilities draw upon the forbidden power of the dark void

I miss when tumblr didn’t have ads
“It's taboo to admit that you're lonely. You can make jokes about it, of course. You can tell people that you spend most of your time with Netflix or that you haven't left the house today and you might not even go outside tomorrow. But rarely do you ever tell people about the true depths of your loneliness, about how you feel more and more alienated from your friends each passing day and you're not sure how to fix it. It seems like everyone is just better at living than you are. A part of you knew this was going to happen. Growing up, you just had this feeling that you wouldn't transition well to adult life, that you'd fall right through the cracks. And look at you now, it's happening.”
Twenty-one tons of potatoes are up for grabs at Potato Palooza on Monday.
The nonprofit’s set to receive a donation of 21 tons of tubers this weekend from suppliers in the Midwest. Hoping to get the starchy vegetables to people in need, the nonprofit will host a “Potato Palooza” event on Monday in Park Hill. “Anyone is welcome to come. They can bring tote bags, wagons, you could back up your pickup truck if you wanted to,” Hissong said. The event is 9 a.m. to noon at the Park Hill Food Recovery Hub, 6090 East 39th Avenue, on July 27.

europeans be like “omg north americans are so racist it’s horrible” and then elect fascists
I would like to emphasize that I agree with all of these tags by the way. My post wasn't aiming to pin all of Europe's grotesque racism on the new elections.
A few weeks ago I was at a board game night with some of my old classmates from various mainland European countries. They started talking about how horrible Trump's treatment of immigrants is and how they're so glad to be in Europe where nothing like that is happening right now. I asked them what they thought about the fact that their own governments were complicit in turning the Mediterranean into a mass grave of asylum seekers, and some of them legitimately didn't even know and were surprised to hear that their own governments had enacted policies that caused the deaths of thousands of asylum seekers.
Even here in Iceland, almost nobody has been talking about the fact that some of the far right populist parties have legitimately been talking about wanting to establish detainment camps to keep asylum seekers in.

This post is a few months old now, and the bit about Iceland is now outdated, because Alþingi (the Icelandic parliament) passed the bill approving the detention center for asylum seekers. It will be legal to handcuff and detain children there.
Never let anyone from Europe feed you the lie that racism and fascism are unique to North America in the 21st century.
This post made racists angry enough to harass me over it, which all that's going to do is make me bring this post back and reblog it more.
