One of my favorite things about loving someone or developing a closeness or fondness towards someone is also loving and developing a fondness for the things they care about. When you learn to see the world in a new way, or you learn to appreciate the things you’ve previously overlooked, or they become your excuse to get into an interest you always thought was cool but thought you didn’t have time for. When a connection makes your world bigger and warmer and fuller and more beautiful.
So 2 of my all time favorite hands down anime of all time is Ghost Hunt and Princess Tutu. And though I haven’t engaged with Mushishi nearly as mush as these two, it’s also one of the shows I love so much. And I just thought it’d be fun to point out some aspects it shares with my top 2 that makes sense why I love it too.
1. The soundtrack. It’s such a nostalgic beauty, perfectly aligns with the tone of the show and immerses you into the story. The soundtrack elevates the anime SO SO MUCH and I’m a sucker for a soundtrack gone right. And fun fact, Toshio Masuda, the composer for the Mushishi soundtrack ALSO composed the soundtrack for Ghost Hunt. The vibes for both are just immaculate, I can listen to both soundtracks all day (and I have done so many times). And then PTutu with the classical BANGERS?!?! Instrumentals go so hard for all 3.
2. Case by case story line. All three shows have a different focal story for the viewer. Ginkgo is a traveling Mushi master that we get to see interact with different people and the mushi affecting their lives in each episode. In PTutu, we discover a new heart shard hiding within the residents of Goldcrown town and return to the Prince. And Ghost Hunt focuses on a new case file every few episodes. And every individual story has more depth to them than meets the eye.
3. Between PTutu and Mushishi, there’s a fun oracle like narration aspect going on before the start of an episode
4. A lot of shared English VAs among all 3 💀💀 Todd Haberkorn was in his BAG back then.
5. Open ending aspects. There’s never a clear cut conclusion for the people we see in Mushishi. Ginkgo shows up, does what he can to help and then moves along. Ghost Hunt has pretty ambiguous endings to each case as well. The conclusion is inferred by the viewer but leaves room for speculation and questions. And then the ending for PTutu is bittersweet but also leaves some threads for the viewer to pick at. Was Duck’s presence ever truly gone in the end or did she legit have a lingering impact? What exactly is Fakir actually writing? Drosselmyer and Uzura?? Where are they going?
6. The absence of the trademark bold color anime hair, wild design and usage of over powered moves. There’s the exception of white hair and unique styles but overall the character designs are rather simplistic and realistic. And with there being powers/magic involved, characters are still semi limited by their human nature. With PTutu characters are limited more by their fate and intentions. In Mushishi, Gingko doesn’t have all the answers and can’t save everybody.
7.) SUCHHHHHH unique premises. A bit of a darker tone but there’s still substance there and a decent balance
i've been phasing the phrase 'google it' out of my vocabulary and going back to 'look it up'. fuck you youve lost your generic trademark privileges
seconding these tags by @ragsy: #if the social consciousness has decided that duckduckgo is the Only Othet Search Engine#might i suggest 'go duck yourself'

mushishi posting because I’m feeling a lot about the fact that ginko is repeatedly witnessing his own mistake getting thrown into his face in different situations and each have different outcomes
his role has always been the same from when he was a child to when we witness him in the series and his nature is always wrapped in this uncertainty of “will I be able save them or will I not?” and that’s really not up to ginko at all— it’s up to the people he’s supporting through the changes posed by the unbalance in the nature of their region
“do not let hate or anger cloud your vision, we all are simply living and being as we are” (nui to yoki)—> “remember, there is not a place in this world where we don’t belong” (suguro to ginko) and ginko himself saying “you may be a bit jealous of me, but truthfully I am envious of you” (to mujika)
these are such notable quotes because they reflect the main message that ginko tries to get across his whole career, which is that things due to happen will happen and there’s no changing that- but what we as people can control or change is how we deal with it/treat others around us dealing with different things under the same umbrella
ginko represents neutrality like nui does, so he goes around helping people mitigate the effects/consequences of certain actions, mindsets, societal rules, etc on themselves and others while also dealing with a major change himself
to wrap this post up, ginko doesn’t have all the answers, nor does he go around acting like it, and I think that’s beautiful because it’s important to keep in mind that no matter how advanced we are as a species and society, sometimes we over complicate things for ourselves and it really is that simple, we just can’t seem to accept that because of the pride we have as a whole in being advanced so we lose to the simplicity of nature
people are constantly reaping what we sow and ginko is a human too— he isn’t a mushi or some saint or messiah like a few of the people he’s come across in the series label him and other mushishi as. he’s literally just a guy trying to find a comfortable place in the world and to understand his existence
in a lot of ways, he’s a reflection of humanity as a whole in my opinon and I might elaborate on that later idk
me, completely unprompted, in the middle of my workday with a class of 4-5 year olds: remember, there is not a place in this world where you do not belong
also me: you’re not nerdy enough to understand
[looking at people younger than me] you have your whole life ahead of you [looking at people older than me] you have your whole life ahead of you [looking at myself] its over

Some of my fav tropes + thoughts
Hmmmmm I love a good yummy slowburn!! The tension, the chemistry, the shared experiences that bring them closer and closer together, hellooooo? // fake dating is practically like crack cocaine to me, once I start a fic with it I won’t know how to stop myself! Bc of course you’re gonna fall in love with your hot friend who you go on “fake dates” with duh! // typically I prefer an enemies to lovers trope, I just love the pay off and realization of “I can’t stop thinking about this person and how annoying they are and how much I want to kiss them, wait what?” // I mean who doesn’t love some close proximity?? Give me a shared bed fic on the double bartender! // hurt comfort hurt comfort hurt comfort hurt comfort hurt comfort // ngl I love a good fantasy setting, esp if we’re including dragons and magic! Sign me tf upppp! // domestic bliss all day every day, I wanna see them be cute at the grocery store, make dinner together and cuddle on the couch // I think every fic has gotta have appropriate amounts of fluff AND smut, don’t hate the player // I mean canon can be important but I love seeing what writers come up with in a fix-it!! The creativity is what I crave! // reincarnation pls, I cannot handle major character deaths TT, I am a sensitive soul // multi chapter is preferred, I will eat down a novel bitch // even tho I’m not that big on kids myself, there’s just something about a pairing I adore caring for a child/baby! And bonus points if the child being taken care of is an age regressed version of the other person in the pairing // ARRANGED MARRIAGE GOOD SHIT // I’m tired of reading about people meeting in high school, gimme that middle aged loveeee // bitch make them time travel and isolated, go through trials and tribulations together, suffer and come out stronger together (and maybe trauma bonded too) // oooooh yeah neighbors is awesome, I don’t always love the awkwardness that comes with roommate tropes at times // I meannnn why can’t sci-fi and magic exist together??? // I haven’t read a body swap in a looooooong time, but that shit kinda eats doesn’t it? Walk a mile in these louboutins // ahhhhh I’ll take the angst and the check please! Thank you! // typically prefer just mundane settings but when an apocalyptic fic is done right *cough* Body Heat by comingaback *cough* it HITS // And I’ll take the happy ending for 500 Alex :)
The original list!!
slowburn or love at first sight // fake dating or secret dating // enemies to lovers or best friends to lovers // there’s only one bed or long-distance correspondence // hurt/comfort or amnesia // fantasy au or modern au // mutual pining or domestic bliss // smut or fluff // canon-compliant or fix-it // reincarnation or character death // one-shot or multi-chapter // kid fic or road trip fic // arranged marriage or accidental marriage // high-school romance or middle-age romance // time travel or isolated together // neighbors or roommates // sci-fi au or magic au // body swap or genderbent // angst or crack // apocalyptic or mundane // happy ending or unhappy ending
Super cute and super fun! Do it if you’re feeling whimsical or not lol

Okay I’ll bite! >:) I'm really bored and I got the time to ramble so this is finna be long. Like LONGGGGGGGGGGG....
//Slow burn for the win. If you want me to take a developing relationship seriously, then I have to SEE SOME ACTUAL DEVELOPMENT! Love at first sight cheapens the depth for me.
//Fake dating will always have my heart. Which makes sense, it falls under the slowburn category, but with the element of surprise! What do you mean you caught feelings??? Whatttt???? Who could've predicted that?!?!
//Enemies to lovers and best friends to lovers are two sides of the same coin for me. I love them both. Because at its core, it's coming to love someone for all the versions of them that you see, whether that be messy flaws that you hate or quirky traits that you love! In the end, you're seen and there's love and acceptance for who you are.
//One bed trope. THE TENSIONNNNN!!! THE FORCED PROXIMITY!!!! THE CHEMISTRY!!!!! Being forced to confront repressed feelings for the other party!!! I eat it up every time.
//Hurt/comfort ALWAYS SLAPPPPS!!! Amnesia is fun as a concept, for the drama of it all, but a character being supported through something difficult is way more relatable. I'm gonna be far more emotionally invested.
//I don't read fics, so setting doesn't matter that much to me. It depends on the type of story I'm looking for at that moment. A modern setting makes it easier to slip into the story, versus fantasy, which would require time to establish world-building and lore on top of characters and plot. BUTTTT sometimes I need to escape reality, and that's where fantasy comes in clutch with a whole new reality and experience.
// Mutual pining!!!!! Once again, THE TENSIONNNNNN!!! THE CHEMISTRY!!!! OH THE ANGST!!!! That buildup is just too good. And usually it ends with domestic bliss anyway!!
// Fluff. I need the substance. Integrating intimate scenes done right can elevate a story. But technically speaking, that's not what smut would be considered as; there's a difference.
// Canon-compliant or fix-it? Idk. If I read fics and had to choose, maybe....fix it? I'd like it to be canon-compliant behaviorally when it comes to how the characters speak and act, otherwise I'd find it unbelievable and wouldn't be able to get into it. But the whole point of fan fiction is that it's FANS' fiction. It's exploring a multitude of alternate endings or situations. The possibilities are endless.
//Hmmm I don't really have strong opinions on this one but I'd rather character death. I wanna feel something!! LOLLLL, even though it's tragic and will break my heart, I will have experienced SUCH an emotional journey. I will have left being significantly impacted.
// One-shot or Multi-chapter? Uhhhhh. Idk, I can't answer this one.
//Kid fic or road trip fic? Also, not sure I have an answer for this one. I'm leaning towards road trip cause it would be easier for my brain to imagine the possibility and digest it. But a child??? That's so far out of my mind I can't picture it.
//Arranged marriage. Cause how tf do you get accidentally married???? What do you mean? Did you slip and just so happen to sign the marriage contract?? Arranged marriage is another one of those overlapping tropes. Forced PROLONGED proximity, slow burn learning everything about a person, surprise feelings caught, etc.
// High-school romance or middle-age romance? I don't have a strong opinion here, but obviously, the older I get, the more I no longer resonate with high school romance. I can still understand the emotional elements and some relationship dynamics, and that's it. But middle-aged romance is still too far away for me to resonate with either. I am a young adult, and I need young adult characters and settings.
//Time travel is cool, but what have I been yelling this whole time??? FORCED PROXIMITYYYYY!!!!! Isolated together for the win.
// neighbors or roommates is an equal 50/50 for me. Both are immaculate. No further comments your honor.
// Magic universe just speaks to me as a whimsical girlie. Sci-fi is cool but I gotta see some glitter and sparkle with those superpowers.
//Body swap sounds more interesting to me. It's another one of those canon-compliant things. I've come to love this character as they are canonically, and body swap is still that same character in a CRAZYYYYYY WILD situation, still thinking internally like themselves, but behaving, interacting, and trying to navigate life as the person they swapped with. It shows you how the characters view one another, the kinds of details they do or don't pay attention to, and you learn so much about them because of the weird predicament. But genderbent is an entirely different character, who would experience life in general entirely differently as a byproduct of preexisting gender roles. (For example, Akito depicted in the Fruits Basket manga, 2000s anime, and the reboot anime. But I won't get into it rn)
//Angst all day babyyyyyy.
// Apocalyptic or mundane is the same as fantasy vs modern setting for me. Depends on what I'm feeling in the moment.
//Why tf would I want an unhappy ending? Don't piss me off rn.

Bought the new tomadachi life game and made the characters from Princess Tutu. They call me Drosselmyer, Mytho LOVES fried eggs, Duck and Uzura regularly play together on a seesaw, Duck and Rue are friends, and Fakir has a crush on Duck. 🥹
Anything to keep the fandom alive
So. Fakir and Duck WERE dating but then HE BROKE UP WITH HER 😭😭😭 in other news: Rue and Mytho are married and they had a son, Alonzo…
